Chapter 2 : The Others
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So, by the title of the chapter you can probably tell that it's a chapter about other people. But, I'm not going to give any spoilers, so please, READ THE CHAPTER!!
Blade's P.O.V
"NO!" I scream as I wake up.
"Dude? Everything cool?" Kai asked looking around the room as if someone were to hear me.
"Uh, y-yeah...everything's cool, bro." I replied ; my voice was slightly shaky.
He nodded awkwardly and walked outside. I stretched and got out of bed. Well, it's not exactly a bed. It's more of a cot. But anyways, I got out of bed and got dressed into my favorite shirt and pants. Today me and Kai were going to explore a neighborhood near a gas station a couple of blocks behind us.
"Kai? What are you waiting for man?", I called out,"Let's go!"
"I'm comin', I'm comin'!" Kai replied.
20 minutes later.....
Kai's P.O.V.
We walked north-east to a neighborhood, not too far from where Blade and I's camp is, known as Oak Hill.
"Hey!", I called out," Do you think we'll find someone? Earlier, I heard Aya talking about Grey seeing someone walking around the entrance of Oak Hill on his trip to the gas station."
"You really believe those guys?", Blade asked as he turned around to talk to me," We're like the only sane ones in the group, other than Shawn and Ricky."
"Well, they said they saw weapons on their back, along with a gun in their hands. And from what they could tell, they weren't limping and stuff. And yes, we are the only sane ones, so I won't believe stuff they say. Okay?" I reply.
"Just so you know, I used to live here. I might bring up some tears and emotions while we're here." Blade said sarcastically, pretending to wipe away a tear from his eye.
I nodded, and we entered the neighborhood.
----------
Blade P.O.V.
We walked in and out of houses, scavenging whatever we could. We found a crowbar, which was quiet useful may I say. We also found a couple bags of small, half-empty chips.
Those would be useful, if they weren't covered in muck and slime. We didn't find anything else, other than a few empty bullet shells.
"Man, this place was looted pretty hard. There's literally NOTHING left." Kai exclaimed.
"There's one house left. Should we check it?" I asked him shrugging.
"Sure, why not?"
We left the house feeling pretty much useless. We crossed the street, Kai looking around, making sure nothing was creeping up on us. Once we made it across, we ran up to the door and jiggled the knob. It wouldn't open though. I looked up at the address on the front of the house and I realized exactly who's house it was. I gulped and crouched down to the door handle and examined it carefully.
"Kai, crowbar. And my nail file, paperclip, and pocket knife." I commanded.
"Yup!" Kai responded, popping the 'p' in his sentence.
After he had gotten everything, I started to pick at the lock. But I noticed something weird.
"There's either seven or eight locks behind this door. Not just the handle, they have padlocks on them. We need to get in a different way. Let's try the back."
"How do I know you're not lying? For all I know, you could be just guessing." Kai accused, folding his arms.
I turned around and gave Kai my best 'REALLY' glare and he slowly put his hands up and backed up.
I picked up our gear and started to get up.
We walk to the back with the tools in our hand. We see a sliding glass door and try knocking on it.
*KNOCK KNOCK*
"Hello? Is anyone home? We're not going to hurt you! We don't want any trouble."
We glance at each other and nod. I try pulling open the door, and it smoothly slides to the side, allowing us to enter.
"Cool. Let's head in before someone or something finds us." I say anxiously.
When we entered, we saw the cleanest house we had ever come by in these days. There were candles lit, furniture in place, the kitchen was clean, and there was still more to discover.
"Dude....who lives here? They might come back...or they're even here RIGHT now!" Kai whispered concerned.
"I highly doubt that if someone was here, they'd leave their back door unlocked.", I huffed, "But now that you say it, who would leave candles lit in an abandoned house?"
I nudged him and crept through the kitchen and into the living room. There were signs that a person was living here recently. Obviously the candles were lit by someone, but there were pieces of torn paper here and there, a couple of empty cans of foods...okay, it's not the cleanest house ever, but still. She would've kept it clean. But she's gone now.
We walked down a hallway dimly lit with candles, only to find a stairwell that lead up to the second floor. I motioned Kai to follow me and we crept up the stairs slowly.
Aya's P.O.V.
"Ugh! Where are they?!" I grumbled.
Grey and I were standing at the entrance of our camp, waiting for Kai and Blade to report back from scouting for stuff around this neighborhood, Oak Hill. But they haven't arrived yet, and curfew is soon.
"Damn it, Kai and Blade! This is getting out of control." Grey cursed under his breath.
"You two should go look for them. They won't see that the sun has gone down till it's almost completely dark. They need help at keeping track of time, honestly. I'll even hold down the fort for ya if you want." Ricky suggested.
"*sigh*, fine. Grab me my gun...and my new knife." I gave in.
"Me too. Grab me my pistol and pocket knife. And trade it out for this gun. I ran out of ammo." Grey said handing his gun over the fence.
I pulled my hiking bag off the ground and slid it onto my back, waiting for Ricky to return with our weapons.
20 minutes south-east towards Oak Hill.....
Grey's P.O.V.
We finally got to Oak Hill at around 8:34. We looked around for ages to find Kai and Blade, but no luck.
"One more house, please? You never know if they could be in one of them! And who knows, maybe the last house could be the lucky one!" I pleaded.
"Fine. How about that one?" Aya replied pointing at a beige two-story house, with the front windows, as well as the other windows, covered with boards.
We walk across the street catiously.
"It's locked." I say jiggling the handle.
"Thanks, captain obvious. We go through the back." Aya said sarcastically.
Aya and I sneaked into the backyard with our guns in our hands. As I walked up onto the deck, I noticed the sliding door was already open.
"*whistles*, it's open. Let's go in."
Aya shoved me out of the way as we began to hear talking inside. She burst through the door and I followed her inside, seeing a young girl and Blade and Kai all talking with each other.
--------
Blade's P.O.V.
About 5 minutes before Aya and Grey enter the house, we were upstairs looking around in what seemed to be the parents room, but found nothing.
"There's one more room...you wanna check it out?" I asked quietly.
I nod in response and we then left the room. I had already seen enough of her house to know that it was her room at the end of the hall.
Kai and I are at the door that will lead us to the next room, but I hesitate to turn the knob. I open the door and I see a room covered in purple and blue. Right away I knew it was a her room.
"Dude, it's a girls room. Should we snoop or just skim through it?" We started to look through drawers and in her jewelry boxes. But we couldn't find anything.
----------
Blade's P.O.V (again)
"This is SO wrong! We shouldn't be looking in a, oh, I don't know...possibly a DEAD girls room?! What could we possibly find here in the middle of a zombie apocalypse?" I say as I slam a drawer shut.
'She would be so pissed if she found out I was looking through her stuff.' I said in my mind.
Kai glanced sideways and walked across the room. He picked up something slowly and examined it.
"Well, well, well. Take a look at this, Blade. Maybe this will change your mind about this certain, uh, issue."
Kai handed me what looked to be a book, or a journal of some kind. I look suspiciously up at him before I opened the...well, I'll just call it a journal for now. It was written in cursive, so it must be a journal. And oddly enough, this handwriting looked too familiar to me. I looked at the first entry and read it.
Journal entry #1 July 2, 2033
I am going to miss my mom and dad. They may be going on a trip, but I know it won't be long. They said I shouldn't leave the house, so Mary Ann is going to be watching over me for the next few days. Before they left, they refilled the fridge and pantries, along with extra necessities such as toothpaste, toilet paper, paper plates, and so on. Mary Ann is coming over in a few minutes and I had better clean my room. So I guess I'll write later.
"Flip to the fifth page." Kai whispered.
I did as he said and started to read the first paragraph of her writing. This is what it said:
Journal entry #5 July 5, 2033
What is going on?! People have been abandoning their houses, bombs have been dropping all over the city, and all of the electricity and radio channels have been cut. I can't find anyone. The last person I saw was someone from the military. He told me he would help me board up my house. I don't see why though. He also brought me a couple months worth of food...along with a years worth of my medication. I don't think I've written this before, but I suffer from a couple disorders. There is depression, anxiety, ADD, ADHD, and asthma. And one more thing that I can't pronounce off the top of my head. But never mind that...I want to know where everyone is. It couldn't just be ME....could it? I hope not. I have stayed inside my house for a couple days. I haven't seen anyone in this neighborhood since the attack.
I miss him dearly. I pray that he is still alive and well. Please, give me a sign god, then I know I won't have to kill myself. Please....please...
Signed,
L.R.S
"That's some deep stuff right there, dude. And who is "he"?" I ask softly.
I knew all to well who "he" was. But she couldn't be alive...could she?
"How am I supposed to know that? Um, let's look at the last page, shall we?" Kai suggested.
"Why do I get the feeling that you are keeping something from me?"
"I dunno. Maybe you are having a hard time in this sort of situation." Kai smirked.
He flipped to the last page and skimmed through it. By the time he got to the end, his eyes had widened.
"What?! Is somethin' wrong?" I asked worriedly.
Kai turned the booked so it faced me and said,"It says your name right here. And it also says she's out on a scavenge right now."
"London Rosemary...Smith?"I gasped quietly," Oh God. No...No! It can't be her!"
"Who? Who's her?!" Kai panicked.
I bolted down the stairs and ran into someone walking into the front door.
"Ow!" Yelped a squeaky voice.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to bump into to you, Ay-" I started.
I looked down on the floor and there sat a young girl, about my age who looked oddly familiar.
"London?!"
---------------
And that ends the chapter! Thanks for being patient...again! Sorry for the weird time travel stuff in-between P.O.V.'s! If it confused you, I'm sorry, but it confused me as well....
