War Preparations
Meanwhile in the port city of Copenhagen. Wellington is taking a nap in a soft and comfortable armchair inside a house near the docks. Lord Uxbridge suddenly enters the house. He notices that Wellington is sleeping so he quietly closes the door. Lord Uxbridge notices the many battle plans on the nearby table. He walks over to the table and glances at the battle plans. He then walks over to the nearby window and he carefully opens the curtains letting some afternoon sunshine in. Wellington slowly opens his eyes and he stares at Lord Uxbridge.
Lord Uxbridge: Afternoon sir.
Wellington: Is it that late in the day?
Lord Uxbridge: Yes.
Wellington: Any news from the Prussian King?
Lord Uxbridge: Not yet.
Wellington: I need to know if he is going to join us in this war.
Lord Uxbridge: Patience sir don't worry we will get a response soon.
Wellington: Any news from England?
Lord Uxbridge: Yes I have heard that your army will be here in two days sir.
Wellington: That's excellent news.
Lord Uxbridge: I can tell something is on your mind. You have that look in your eyes.
Wellington: It's nothing Uxbridge.
Lord Uxbridge: You're worried about your plans sir?
Wellington: No Uxbridge.
Lord Uxbridge: What are you worried about sir?
Wellington: I'm worried that the Prussian King won't help us Uxbridge.
Lord Uxbridge: He will send you a response sir. I'm sure the message has arrived in Prussia.
Wellington: Brandy Uxbridge?
Lord Uxbridge: You want Brandy sir?
Wellington: Yes Uxbridge.
Lord Uxbridge: But you're meant to be going to Potsdam soon. I don't think you should be seeing the King after drinking Brandy.
Wellington: Fine I'll have tea.
Lord Uxbridge: I've also heard that Lieutenant Sundermann is currently in Potsdam sir.
Wellington: Well then it would be good to see him.
Lord Uxbridge: I promise that there will be Brandy when you come back.
Wellington: Alright Uxbridge. Now if you please let's have some tea.
Lord Uxbridge: Yes sir.
Lord Uxbridge walks over to the kettle and he starts preparing the tea. Wellington quietly sighs to himself.
Lord Uxbridge: You have been like this all-day sir.
Wellington: Like what Uxbridge?
Lord Uxbridge: You have had something on your mind. I know that it's not just about the Prussian King sir.
Wellington: It's about Kitty...
Lord Uxbridge: Kitty?
Wellington: My wife Uxbridge.
Lord Uxbridge: You miss her sir.
Wellington: Yes...
Lord Uxbridge: Sir. She is probably also missing you.
Wellington: I'm worried that something might happen to me.
Lord Uxbridge: Nothing will happen to you, sir. No need to worry.
Wellington: You're right Uxbridge.
Wellington suddenly gets up out of his seat and walks over to the door he stops and stands there. He stares out the window at the large British ship.
Lord Uxbridge: Are you alright sir?
Wellington: I'm going outside I need to think.
Lord Uxbridge: Alright I will bring the tea out to you sir.
Wellington opens the door he walks out and stares at the ship. He closes the door behind him and he starts walking over to the docks. He carefully sits down on the side of the dock near the edge. He sits there listening to the ocean completely zoned out and deep in thought. He doesn't notice a familiar Vice Admiral coming off the ship behind him.
Horatio Nelson: Sir Arthur?
Wellington accidentally tumbles off the docks and into the water out of surprise. Nelson promptly walks over to the edge of the docks and he stares at Wellington with slight confusion.
Wellington: Im alright.
Nelson kneels and holds out his hand and Wellington gently grabs his hand. Nelson carefully pulls Wellington out of the water and onto the docks.
Wellington: Sorry about that I was just thinking and I didn't notice that you were behind me.
Horatio Nelson: It's fine your grace. Besides, I didn't mean to disturb you. I was just wondering why you were out here.
Wellington: I needed to think.
Horatio Nelson: Worried about the war Sir Arthur?
Wellington: No...Well yes and no. I don't want something to happen to me. Kitty is probably worried about me. She wants the war to stop and I will help stop this war. But I don't want her to lose me.
Horatio Nelson: That feeling is normal. Trust me I have felt that feeling many times during this war. I have missed spending time with the one I love as well during this war.
Wellington: I understand but if I don't come back...I worry about Kitty.
Horatio Nelson: You will return to her Sir Arthur. You always have.
Wellington: Yes...
Horatio Nelson: You will be seen as a hero in London.
Wellington: No need for calling me that.
Horatio Nelson: You have won many battles and it's been heard in London.
Wellington: I don't want to be known as a hero. So don't call me that, please Nelson.
Lord Uxbridge walks over with a cup of tea. He stares at Wellington with slight confusion. He stares at Wellingtons clothing noticing that they are still wet from when Wellington fell off the dock.
Lord Uxbridge: You alright sir?
Wellington: Yes I'm fine Uxbridge.
Horatio Nelson: I might have startled him.
Lord Uxbridge: I see.
Wellington: I suppose I should change into my uniform and get ready to head to Potsdam.
Lord Uxbridge: May I suggest we stop in Berlin first sir.
Wellington: Your right besides I don't think I would be able to travel to Potsdam without getting any rest.
Horatio Nelson: Well good luck. I better get back to my men.
Lord Uxbridge: Save some Brandy for Wellington when he gets back. I promised him some.
Horatio Nelson: I'll try to make sure my men don't drink it all.
Horatio Nelson walks back onto the ship and he stares at them both and he smiles.
Horatio Nelson: Good luck to you both. And be careful Wellesley.
Wellington: Yes I will.
Horatio Nelson walks off and heads back to his duties. Lord Uxbridge stares at Wellington and he smiles.
Lord Uxbridge: You two seem to know each other quite well. I've never heard another soldier call you that before.
Wellington: Yes we have known each other for a while.
Lord Uxbridge: Let's get ready to head to Berlin shall we?
Wellington: Yes Uxbridge.
Lord Uxbridge and Wellington walk down the dock together back to the house.
Meanwhile in Potsdam Voltaire is in his room writing some poetry at his desk. He looks up at the clock and he notices that it's 12:30 pm.
Voltaire: Frederick has been working since he woke up...I haven't heard him leave his room for lunch. Although I haven't had lunch either I'm worried about Frederick. I should go see him. I'll finish this poetry soon.
Voltaire puts his quill into the ink and he gets up from his desk. He walks over to the door and opens it. He walks out into the hallway and closes the door behind him. He promptly walks over to the door to Fredericks room and he gently knocks on it.
Voltaire: Frederick can I please come in?
Frederick: Yes Voltaire you may come in.
Voltaire opens the door and he enters the room closing the door behind him.
Frederick: What is it, Voltaire?
Voltaire: Frederick have you forgotten what time it is?
Frederick gently grabs his pocket watch out of his pocket. He carefully opens the small golden pocket watch. He stares at the time and he notices that it reads 12:32 pm.
Frederick: I guess I am a bit hungry...
Voltaire: You have been working all morning.
Frederick's stomach quietly growls.
Voltaire: You need to eat something. Take care of yourself.
Frederick: I need to finish my work.
Voltaire: You can do that later Frederick. You need to eat first. Look I care for you.
Frederick: Fine...
Voltaire: What do you want me to get you, Frederick?
Frederick: Coffee with no milk. And some meat and vegetable stew.
Voltaire: Is that all you want Frederick?
Frederick: Yes Voltaire.
Voltaire: Alright I will get you your lunch.
Frederick: Thank you, Voltaire.
Voltaire quickly walks over to the door and he opens it and he notices Prince Frederick William walking down the hallway towards him. Voltaire walks out into the hallway and he gently closes the door behind him. He starts feeling slightly uneasy about Prince Frederick William due to the incident that happened two days ago. He promptly walks down the hallway past Prince Frederick William. Frederick William walks over to the door and he gently knocks on it.
Frederick: What is it?
Frederick William: I want to apologise...Your Majesty...
Frederick: Fred...come in, please. But we can't chat for too long I'm busy.
Frederick William: I understand there is about to be a battle after all.
Frederick William gently opens the door and he walks into the room and he awkwardly stares at Frederick.
Frederick: Shut the door if you please.
Frederick William gently shuts the door and he continues awkwardly staring at Frederick.
Frederick: You said that you want to apologise.
Frederick William: Yes Your Majesty...
Frederick: You promise not to hurt me again.
Frederick William: I...I promise your Majesty.
Frederick: You promise not to threaten my guests.
Frederick William: I promise Your Majesty...
Frederick: You promise not to harm my guests.
Frederick William: I promise Your Majesty...
Frederick: Good.
Frederick William: Does this mean that you forgive me?
Frederick: Yes.
Frederick William: Thank you, Your Majesty...
Frederick: You may leave.
Frederick William walks over to the door and he opens it and he walks into the hallway. He notices Voltaire walking back to the room with a tray with coffee and a bowl of stew. He stares with confusion. Frederick William walks down the hallway and Voltaire cautiously walks past Frederick William still feeling uneasy. Voltaire enters Fredericks room and walks over to Fredericks desk and carefully places the tray down. Frederick looks up from his work and he stares at Voltaire.
Voltaire: What?
Frederick: You seem a bit uneasy.
Voltaire: It's just after what happened I feel a bit scared around the Prince.
Frederick: I understand Voltaire...
Voltaire: He was nice to me he helped me. But he hurt you Frederick and I'm scared he might hurt me...
Frederick: You're having those dreams again aren't you.
Voltaire: No for once I got some sleep...but I'm worried.
Frederick: About what Voltaire?
Voltaire: You Frederick I'm worried about you...
Frederick: Why?
Voltaire: Because of your safety and that he attacked you. He could do it again.
Frederick: He apologised and he promised not to attack me again.
Voltaire: Do you trust him, Frederick?
Frederick: Yes...Now I need to eat my lunch and finish my work. If you're so nervous Voltaire go relax.
Voltaire: Yes Your Majesty...
Voltaire walks out the door and he closes the door behind him. He walks down the hallway and opens the door to his room. He enters his room and closes the door behind him. He sits at his desk and stares at his unfinished poetry. He quietly sighs to himself.
Voltaire: Why am I so anxious?
Voltaire: I'm too anxious to write anything...my mind is just full of scary thoughts about the Prince hurting me...I need to just lie down...Have a nap perhaps it might help.
Voltaire gets up from his desk walks over to his bed and sits down on it. He carefully takes his shoes off and places them on the floor. He gently takes off his wig and places it on his bedside table. He then gets into bed and lies there and stares at the ceiling.
Voltaire: I just hope that resting will help. I don't want to feel this anxious for the rest of the day. I just want to get my poetry done.
Voltaire slowly closes his eyes and starts having a nap.
