23 - Fearless

"Anyways guys, let's go and get them." Eunwoo declared as the demons made their way towards the mortals.

Their plan was to simply possess them once again. This time, they didn't go as invisible ones, they decided to show the mortals, who the demons were and what power they held.

While the mortals were walking in a group, holding each other's hands, they flinched when the demons suddenly landed around them with black clouds lacing everyone.

"W-who are you?" Jun managed to mumble.

"Stronger than your pathetic vampires." Eunwoo smirked, "Welcome us y'all, we're the demons."

"De-demons?" Seungkwan stuttered.

"Aw baby is scared hmm?" Sanha mocked, "Eww cringe."

"Don't let your intrusive thoughts win." Kihyun slapped his arms.

"What's happening?" Hyungwon mumbled as he squinted his eyebrows.

"What?" Jinyoung asked.

"I can't take over him." Hyungwon pointed at Vernon after which all the demons tried but failed to possess the mortals.

"Try me bitch." Minghao punched Jinyoung who stumbled due to the impact as he widened his eyes, "Who the fuck are you-"

"Human? Or-" Dino smirked as he transformed into Seungcheol, "Vampire?"

"What the heck?" Kihyun blurted out, "You can't possess humans."

"Yeah." Seungkwan nodded as he transformed into Jeonghan, "But we can, shape-shift."

The demons stood with their jaws dropped as Jun, Minghao and Vernon turned into Hoshi, Mingyu and Joshua respectively.

"But the humans-" Sanha blabbered in confusion.

A huge bubble came into sight which had trapped the mortals while Wonwoo, Woozi and Seokmin stayed inside the same spell, guarding the humans.
----

"Fine." Seungcheol raised his head, "Go to your apartment, collect your things and go back to the human world."

"You'll eventually forget everything on your way back." Jeonghan became equally stern, "And if you'll be fortunate enough, you'll definitely meet the demons. All the best."

"Hyung-" Mingyu tried to intervene as the decision of the leaders seemed to be very wrong.

Both of them turned towards their fellow vampires and gave them an assuring look, "Let's go. And no need to stop them."

As soon as the vampires left the hall, the humans dashed off the bed to escape but they eventually found themselves wrapped inside the transparent bubble.

"What the hell?!" Minghao yelled.

"Do you really think we'll let you risk your lives?" Jeonghan and Seungcheol came back, "Sure you can leave this place but not before the end of demons."

"And since you're so eager, we'll show you that they're not a story cooked up by us."
----

"We could have made them stay in the mansion." Hoshi shrugged, "But they were so eager to see you."

"And this is the last time one can witness you so-" Mingyu chuckled.

Eunwoo's eyes darkened. Before he could plan or react, the vampires who were free to fight recited some foreign words. And the demons got trapped, within the master spell.

Now, they could neither escape the place nor cast any spell by themselves. It was the vampires' playground now and the demons had only one choice, to fight.

They wasted no time in clashing their swords against each other for a one-on-one fight. Seungcheol's thunder cloud occupied Eunwoo while Jeonghan clasped Kihyun's throat. Hoshi's fangs pierced Hyungwon's skin while Mingyu and Joshua had Sanha and Jinyoung on chokehold.

The scenario was overwhelming for the mortals. Sure they've seen many fights and had even served in the military. But this was something different, very different.

The demons began to defend themselves with equal potential as the vampires got some scars too. No one could define who was dominating the battle as both the opponents were equally outrageous.

Jinyoung slammed Joshua's head against a tree but the vampire jumped over and attacked the demon's legs which made him trip. Jinyoung rose up as his black storm surrounded both of them but Joshua's sword pierced through it with a red spark.

Sanha punched Mingyu twice in his stomach to which he retorted with a treacherous cloud of fast moving red winds. Sanha was trapped within it when Mingyu jumped in to attack the demon with his sword.

Hyungwon clasped Hoshi's neck within his harm but the vampire was quick to pierce a dagger in his stomach. The scar healed quickly but Hoshi immediately landed numerous punches across Hyungwon's face which made him fall on the ground.

Kihyun's sword went through Jeonghan's stomach but the vampire remained unfazed. He summoned a bright scarlet wire which got tied around Kihyun's neck. The demon cut off the wire but was hit by a vigorous thunderbolt followed by the vampire's sword.

Eunwoo landed several kicks against Seungcheol's stomach but the vampire caught his ankle and twisted it. He kicked his other leg to which the demon fell on the ground. But he reverted back almost instantly and their swords clashed as the loud sound of the metals striking echoed.

The humans gasped as they held onto each other tightly. Wonwoo saw their worried faces, "Don't worry. Nothing would reach you. We won't let you bear any harm."

"Just see how our so-called cooked up stories are so dangerous." Woozi mumbled as he held onto the spell to protect the mortals.

"Trust us guys, we mean no harm to you." Seokmin inhaled a deep breath, "We might be monsters but if we actually had the intention to execute you, do you really believe that you would have been alive by now?"

"No one has the guts to scream on our faces and get away with it as easily as you did." Wonwoo chuckled bitterly, "We can snap anyone's neck by just one look."

"I know it's hard for you to believe us but it is what it is." Woozi continued, "Look at them yourself. Can you believe that you just yelled at them yesterday and they did nothing?"

It was when the dark eyes of the demons turned greyish and eventually turned normal. They dropped their weapons as they collapsed on the ground against their knees.

The vampires looked at them in confusion when Eunwoo muttered, "Kill us."

"What?" Seungcheol scrunched his brows, "You're not going to fight?"

They noticed how tears began to flow through their eyes as Hoshi lifted Kihyun's chin through his sword, "Is it your new melodrama?"

Sanha slowly nodded in denial, "It's due to the master spell."

"Master spell." Mingyu rolled his eyes, "We didn't know that this spell can change someone's intentions too."

"It can't." Hyungwon stated, "But it can free us from other spells."

"Mind explaining your bullshit?" Joshua cocked a brow.

"Of course but before that-" Eunwoo raised his head, "Tell us one thing. Why are we considered as monsters but you are not? I mean I agree we deserve the tag but you're not innocent either."

"Not called monsters? Innocent?" Jeonghan laughed in disbelief as he pointed at the humans inside the shield, "Ask them. What are we known as?"

The mortals felt their insides churn. Among everyone who was present in the field, they were the ones with the highest level of empathy. And they were definitely feeling bad but over that, scared.

"Not that we care though." Seungcheol continued, "We're called devils because we are one, according to them."

"Right? You feed on their blood and we feed in their souls." Kihyun looked up, "Then why are you all painted as the good ones? Why are we solely the bearers of bad omen?"

"Because you deserve it." Hoshi shrugged, "About the humans, it's our necessity. We have to survive through them. But unlike you, we've never invaded their land and abducted millions of humans for our own good when it wasn't even required."

"We never fought with the werewolves to occupy their land." Joshua added.

"We never disrupted the land of the elves to turn them into graveyards." Mingyu dropped another fact, "And we never tried to cast spells over the water bodies to win over their creatures."

"And how can we forget about the numerous vampires you killed just to gain the throne of the land which solely belongs to us." Seungcheol glared at the demons.

"We've never tried to dominate over other creatures unless it was a necessity." Jeonghan stepped forward, "These are the things which draw a line between you and us."

"And why did we commit these sins?" Eunwoo grinned in pain, "Because apparently a vampire had to revenge on his fellow vampires."

"What?"

"Your father, Jeonghan." Kihyun pointed at him, "He's ruling the hell now. And because he wants you all to die, he's using us as a mediator."

"When this master spell ends, we'll again fall into his spell." Sanha stated, "And we'll again do all the sins we never wanted to do."

"You tell us, we've been friends for a long time. But were we always this harmful and toxic?" Hyungwon asked, "No right?"

"When Jaebyeom took over us, we were his first target because we were close to you." Jinyoung explained, "And now, he holds the lives of all the demons within himself. But, where exactly were we wrong?"

"Enough is enough, we need to and we want to die now." Eunwoo stood up, "Kill us. It's better to die through our friends' hands instead of getting controlled by a bastard. We don't want to cause any more harm."

"Hear me out-" Jeonghan spoke up after a minute of silence, "We can find a way out."

"There's no way out." The demons stood directly against the vampires, "The spell will end in 25 seconds right? Kill us before it's too late."

"No but-"

Before the vampires could react, the demons held their hands and pierced the swords into their respective bodies. The vampires stood stunned as the demons began to fade away in black ashes with loud painful screams.

The mortals closed their eyes and ears as they shivered because of the scene in front of them. Wonwoo, Woozi and Seokmin embraced them to calm them down.

Seungcheol gestured them to escort the humans back to the mansion and the other three complied.

The remaining vampires dropped to the ground as they felt the guilt rush through their veins. The demons weren't exactly innocent but they weren't the culprits either.

They just lost their lives amidst the revenge game of people totally unrelated to them.

"You guys may leave, I'll be back in a while." Jeonghan mumbled as he blankly stared at the ground.

Seungcheol patted Mingyu, Hoshi and Joshua, "Go, I'll stay with him."

"Cheol, you can leave too, I want to stay alone for a while." Jeonghan stated.

Seungcheol sent away the other three after which he turned to the younger, "I'll not disturb you. You can spend as much time here as you want, I'll not leave you alone. I'll not say anything, just sit by here, away from your sight."

Jeonghan remained silent. The previous scenario rushed through his brain and it hit him, his own father was the root cause of everything. And no one was blaming him. He knew it wasn't his own fault but he can never deny the fact that he was the son of the bastard, Yoon Jaebyeom.

"Your father, Jeonghan." Kihyun pointed at him, "He's ruling the hell now. And because he wants you all to die, he's using us as a mediator."

He grabbed his hair in frustration. He didn't know if he wanted to cry his heart out or scream his lungs out. So eventually, he did both.

It was when he felt Seungcheol's arms around him and he immediately snuggled into the older's embrace.

Seungcheol caressed his back and consoled him, "I know what you're thinking but it's not your fault Jeonghan."

"I'll kill him." Jeonghan clenched his teeth, "I don't care if I get tagged as my own father's murderer but his death will come through my hands only. I'll make sure he dies in the most miserable way possible."

"Sure do it but calm down from now okay?" Seungcheol kissed his forehead.

"Wait." Jeonghan broke the hug, "We fought so much right in front of the forest but-"

"But?"

"Where are the elves?"

"Oh right?" Seungcheol looked back, "They didn't show up after all these noises. That's strange. Are they alright-"

"Of course they have to." Jeonghan stood up, "But let's go and check on them once."

Jeonghan and Seungcheol made their way to the forest.

"Why is the forest so dull?" Jeonghan mumbled as Seungcheol also found it weird, "Shuhua? Minnie? Yunjin? Kazuha? Sakura?"

"No one is answering." Jeonghan looked at the older as he gestured to him that he was going to envision whatever everything that has been happening in the forest.

Within a few moments, he was taken aback as his jaw dropped.

"What is it?" Seungcheol asked as Jeonghan replied in an uneven tone, "The demons killed them."

"WHAT?!" Seungcheol collapsed on the ground followed by Jeonghan, "They- We failed them."

"We vowed to protect them and they trusted us so much but-" Seungcheol choked on his own words.

The vampires sobbed. The elves were really close to them. They were almost one huge family with their strong bonding and mutual trust.

It was obvious that the vampires were stronger than the elves but there were many things which were solely governed by the elves. And hence, they had mutual respect and a sense of understanding towards each other.

"How can we lack in their case?" Jeonghan mumbled, "How did all this happen without our knowledge?"

It was when a soft, cold breeze blew around them, wiping their tears. The moonlight shone brighter than normal as it began to snow out of the blue. Within the beautiful snowflakes, some white feathers also made their way.

The vampires looked up and stared at the gorgeous sky which almost hypnotized them.

"We're always with you." A female voice echoed without any sight of the source, "Don't worry, you are doing great. Don't blame yourself, it wasn't your fault. If possible, we'll probably meet again."

The vampires recognised the voice well. They chuckled bitterly as they felt the breeze and snowflakes over themselves while closing their eyes.

It was probably a last goodbye and assurance from their dear friends, yeah probably.
