11 - Ash
"What the-" Seungcheol almost cursed as he was greeted with a flying shoe as soon as he stepped into the apartment of the mortals.
And it didn't stop here, another shoe came flying towards Wonwoo who managed to dodge it. Seungcheol caught the remote, magazine and spoon that came on his way while Wonwoo protected himself from the cushion, water bottle and a packet of cup noodles.
"You'll have to clean it all." Dino screamed as he ran around the hall.
"You stupid idiot, STOP RIGHT HERE." Seungkwan yelled while following him, "You really want to die today."
"Why are you begging me to stop?" Dino mocked, "Catch me if you can?"
"I'LL KILL YOU ONCE I CATCH YOU." Seungkwan's scream echoed in the hall as the duo turned the room upside down.
"What's even happening?" Seungcheol asked Vernon, Jun and Minghao who were casually sitting on the sofa, unfazed by the chaos going on.
"And why are you not stopping them?" Wonwoo couldn't believe what he was seeing, "They're about to murder each other."
"Don't worry, they won't die." Minghao continued to scroll through his phone.
"Seungkwan excitedly prepared pancakes and iced Americano for himself and Dino added heaps of salt in both of them." Vernon explained, "It was revenge actually."
"Revenge?"
"Yeah because when Dino went to have a shower yesterday, Seungkwan turned off the hot water supply in the middle and he had to bath with chilling water." Jun scoffed, "And this was revenge for some other thing Dino did earlier."
"It's like a chain, you can't keep a count of it." Minghao showed his distress, "After about an hour, they'll probably eat ice-cream together, forgetting everything."
"YOU DUMBASS." The swearing and yelling still continued as the two vampires stared at the scenario in disbelief.
As soon as Seungkwan crossed them, Seungcheol was quick to hold him in place while Wonwoo held Dino.
"Let me go." Seungkwan wriggled in Seungcheol's grip, "Today we'll be four instead of five."
"Why? Are you going to leave our group?" Dino laughed, "Goodbye hyung!!"
"See? See him?" Seungkwan pointed at Dino within Seungcheol's hold while complaining to him, "This disrespectful brat."
"Bold of you to assume that you deserve any respect." Dino cackled while Wonwoo blocked him from moving anywhere near Seungkwan as the chaos continued with silly laughs.
The humans were indeed their ray of sunshine.
A bunch of people, human beings in particular were standing like a statue in a huge dungeon while 5 men reviewed their information.
The humans were blindfolded and even though their bodies seemed free, they were bounded by a painful spell.
Yes, Welcome to hell.
"They are pretty useless." Jinyoung scoffed, "Who even bothered to bring them here?"
"They aren't that useless." Hyungwon walked around, "We can at least release our frustration on them."
"I can't even focus since I've heard about those humans which they got." Sanha intervened, "Why is Scarlet Coast blessed with everything? It isn't heaven either."
"Exactly, that place also falls under the criteria of hell." Kihyun shut his laptop, "For how long are they going to dominate us? Our ancestors were such weaklings."
"Not anymore." Eunwoo stood up with a smirk, "Let's go, we've to meet Mr. Yoon. We're set to visit the Coast really soon, that land has no future."
"But what about them hyung?" Sanha referred to the hostages.
Eunwoo laid his eyes on the mortals as his orbs darkened, "Die."
Within a second, the huge dungeon was demolished, leaving no clue of the souls that were residing there a few moments ago.
"Oh great, my boys are here." Five of them were greeted by a deep and authoritative voice along with a warm look and welcoming arms. He was none other than the ruler of the demonic world, Mr. Yoon Jaebyeom.
They retorted his enthusiasm as he embraced them one by one, patting their backs and admiring them, "You guys have grown stronger, good."
"It was an exhausting trip within the humans." Kihyun scoffed, "I almost lost my sanity."
"Nevermind." Jaebyeom chuckled, "I believe you will love your journey to meet your friends."
"Of course." Jinyoung nodded as everyone took a seat, "It's been a long time since we met them."
"Too bad, this would be your last meeting with them." Jaebyeom laughed.
"We know your motive very well Mr. Yoon." Eunwoo sighed, "And I believe you still remember ours."
"Of course I do." Jaebyeom retained his stern look, "I've already promised you that you'll be rewarded with the whole forest of the elves. And then you can hunt on the humans as much as you can, no one will stop you."
The forest of the elves was the borderline between the human world and the supernatural world. Although the vampires weren't saints but they avoided living within the humans to hunt them. It was useless for them. They couldn't sacrifice the ones they would lure and they were never short of blood.
Meanwhile, the demons didn't choose to acquire the humans, it was rather a need for them. Although they were provided with enough preys who would be sent to the demonic world by the elves, the demons were greedy for more. But the elves and the vampires were a huge hurdle for them.
What they didn't know was that the emerging greed wasn't their own. It was due to the spell cast by Jaebyeom. He had first increased the desire for humans within the demons to get a hold on them and then promised to hand the forest to them once he wins the Scarlet Coast. That's why the demons had become desperate to follow his plans.
One cannot underestimate Yoon Jaebyeom. He had excellent control over the demonic world, all thanks to him being a vampire a few decades ago. Although they were faint, he still had the powers of a vampire and they blended well with his demonic traits. That's why he was in a hurry, he had to execute his plans before he would lose his vampire self.
"But, isn't Jeonghan your son?" Sanha questioned, "I understand your hatred for Seungcheol but what about your own son?"
"Yoon Sanha." Jaebyeom passed an evil grin with clenched teeth, "I'll snap your head if you call him my son once again. Since this was your first time, I'll spare you."
"But don't you think we deserve to know the reason for this plan?" Hyungwon added, "I mean, we've been planning this for long but all we know is that Seungcheol killed you because you killed his parents. But what about the others? What did your so- umm Jeonghan and Mrs. Yoon do?"
"THEY ARE AT FAULT MORE THAN SEUNGCHEOL." Jaebyeom lost his calm, "They were supposed to support me. But no! The Choi family was more dear to them. They never felt the humiliation of being the deputies when the Choi clan was ruling the coast. Such pity vampires they were. And when I did something good, to get recognition and posts that I deserved, they once again betrayed me."
-----
"DAD?!" Jeonghan yelled when he arrived at his mansion. He saw his father lying dead on the floor while his mother stood emotionless and Seungcheol had his sword in his hand which was drained with his father's blood.
He rushed towards them when his mother, Yoon Chaewon held his arms, "Don't go near that filthy man."
"What are you saying mom?" Jeonghan's eyes widened, "I know he was rude to us but still, he was our fami-"
"HE IS A MURDERER." Chaewon yelled.
"We all are." Jeonghan replied.
"You didn't get it Jeonghan." Chaewon chuckled bitterly, "He killed the Choi couple."
"WHAT?" Jeonghan looked back at Seungcheol who avoided his gaze. He turned to his mother, "Are you kidding me?"
"I'm not." Chaewon inhaled a deep breath as she embraced her son and cried, "He killed them to get the designation of the leader. If he wasn't wrong, I would have definitely protected him from Seungcheol."
"M-mom, what- I-" Jeonghan's lips quivered as began to lose himself. His dad was the killer of his friend's innocent family. How will he face Seungcheol now? How will he repay his father's sins?
Chaewon broke the hug and stepped near her husband, "I'm sorry Seungcheol and I'm sorry to you too my son. I hope you'll stay happy for the rest of your life. Seungcheol, please don't hate my son for what his father did. You know he loves you and loved your family too. Goodbye!"
"Mom- what are you-" Before Jeonghan could complete his sentence, Chaewon used the power of her spells and both Jaebyeom and her body disappeared in thin air.
What they didn't know was that Jaebyeom's soul was still active. Disappointed by his family, he flew to the demonic world to conquer it and plant seeds of his revenge as a rivalry between the vampires and demons. He lured the demons into his spell and sweet promises to make them fight the vampires so now, he had to accomplish his plan before his spell would die.
"MOM!!!" Jeonghan fell on his knees as tears brimmed in his ruby eyes. Both Seungcheol and Jeonghan mourned their parents' death. The gloominess was so strong that it got converted into a shield and restrained anyone from entering the mansion to invade their broken souls. Their friends kept trying to reach them as soon as possible but nothing seemed to work.
After an hour or two, Jeonghan finally mustered up the courage to approach Seungcheol, "I'm- I'm sorry."
Seungcheol didn't look at him. He kept staring at the floor when the younger one started to blabber, "I'm sorry Seungcheol. I- I'll stay away from you. You can release all your anger on me, I'll gladly accept my fate. I'll-"
"Stop it Jeonghan." Seungcheol mumbled, "It was not your fault."
"But-"
"I killed your dad too. And because of that, aunt gave up on her life even though she was innocent." Seungcheol gulped the lump in his throat, "Even I'm not innocent anymore."
Right. Directly or indirectly, Jeonghan's mom died because Seungcheol took away Jaebyeom's life. It was a fact that no one can deny but was it a sin? That's up to your perspective.
Jeonghan crouched down beside the older, "I feel awful. Nothing would change the fact that all of this happened because of MY dad. I'll go away from your life Seungcheol, I swear you won't have to live with this trauma everyday because of me."
Jeonghan stood up and began to leave. It was when Seungcheol held his wrist to pull him back. Jeonghan fell against the wall as the older closed the proximity between them, attaching their lips amidst the falling tears.
"Don't go." Seungcheol broke the brief kiss and embraced the older as he broke down within his arms, "Please don't leave me. I'm scared, I can't bear to lose anyone now. I'll kill myself if one more important person departs from my life."
------
"That's what my own son did." Jaebyeom chuckled in sarcasm, "He accepted and consoled his father's murderer."
"That's a horrible thing to do." Eunwoo remarked, "The war for authority isn't a new thing. People kill and die for it, there's nothing to be emotional over acquiring power."
"Indeed." Hyungwon raised his brows, "That's the moment you have to choose between your family and being dumb."
"Don't worry Mr. Yoon, we are with you." Kihyun assured, "We completely understand you."
"That's why I trust you guys more than anyone." Jaebyeom smiled, "And now, they'll have to suffer."
"They're already divided into two." Sanha smirked, "They've made our task easier."
"All thanks to you." Jaebyeom cackled.
"Oh no, it's all thanks to your plan, you cunning old man." Jinyoung joked which made everyone laugh.
"Okay boys, buckle up yourself." Jaebyeom stood up, "You have to show up to your friends soon. And those human guests residing there are one hell of a bonus."
"A cherry on cake." Eunwoo cheered his team, "This is going to be fun."
Jeonghan and Seungcheol were seated alone in the meeting room of the common HQ for both the stylths of the Scarlet Coast. It was the time of their monthly review of the Coast's condition.
They were almost done with their formal conversation and were scrolling through their tablets for a last view before signing their approvals of everything being in control.
But Jeonghan's mind was clouded with Seungcheol's exceptional behaviour. He didn't drop a single out of context or cheesy line within an hour of the meeting. He was entirely focused on the reports which wasn't his normal behaviour.
This was what Jeonghan wanted, didn't he? This was something he had always warned Seungcheol about but when it was finally happening, he couldn't digest it.
"You would have pulled out my eyeballs if I was staring at you like that." Seungcheol let out a taunting grin while keeping his eyes fixed on the report.
"I wasn't staring at you." Jeonghan shrugged as he looked back at his own device, "I was just surprised that you stayed formal all along."
"You sound sulky and disappointed instead of sounding surprised." Seungcheol chuckled, "But, I'm done with you all. Every time I try to talk, it ends up the same way, I get all the blame, I'm tagged as the cheater, betrayer or whatever. I'm pretty much used to it now. You can even start calling me a thief, murderer, psychopath or anything that suits your tongue."
"Why are you so pissed when I didn't even say anything?" Jeonghan abandoned the tablet he was holding.
Seungcheol scoffed as he stood up from his seat and approached the younger. He bent down while caging the younger amidst his arms and the chair.
He inched closer and closer to Jeonghan while staring into his ruby eyes, "Why? It suddenly irks you when you are the one who keeps reminding me how bad of a person I am, every now and then?"
Jeonghan's heart beat was racing like crazy and he hated it. The elder had once stated a fact, he was indeed Jeonghan's weakness. Because you would never witness Jeonghan being short of words until and unless, Choi Seungcheol is the one who's caging him amidst his intoxicating gaze.
"Go on Jeonghan, hate me with all your might. Call me as many names as you can." Seungcheol's crimson orbs blazed elegantly, "Snap my head or choke me to death. But I'll always wait for the day when reality hits you like a damn truck. And do you know how crazy I am? Do you know how far my self-respect has steeped down for you? Because, I'll still be ready to forget everything and embrace you warmly."
Jeonghan gulped as the emotions pent up inside him were suffocating him.
"Only if," Seungcheol continued, "you don't get too late. You all are way too determined to sway me off limit, aren't you? Why are you speechless now?"
"I'm not speechless." Jeonghan managed to mumble, "I'm just so done with your bullshit."
"Bullshit?" Seungcheol smirked as his fingers grazed through the younger's jawline, lifting up his chin, "The way your words and your body language doesn't match is so funny to me. Why are you holding your breath Jeonghan-ah? Is this proximity hurting your denial?"
Yes it is.
"Shut up, right now."
"You should know that you are not any better. We both are equally fucked up."
"You're a fucking disappointment, I never wanted a son like you." Jeonghan's mind rang with a memory which was yet another nightmare for him.
"You're just better at hiding your toxic traits."
"Sometimes I just want to kill you." Mr. Yoon held his son's neck as harshly as he could.
"Why do you think that you are always right? Why do you always turn your selfishness into a blame game?"
"S-Seungcheol stop."
"Why? Is reality a bit too harsh for you to take?"
"Just go die somewhere, I don't want to see your face anymore. You and your mother are just a headache for me."
"Don't worry Jeonghan, you have everyone's sympathy by your side. You don't know the taste of being criticised for no fucking reason."
"I just wish you were never born, you disobedient brat. What did I tell you about seeing him? Do you prefer death over maintaining your distance with the Choi family? Such a shitty son you are!"
"And-" Seungcheol halted when Jeonghan clutched onto his shirt. This time, the hold was not out of wrath but a miserable one. He was sweating like crazy and his eyes struggled to remain open.
Seungcheol's grip on the chair loosened when he realised the younger's condition and Jeonghan immediately fell off the chair on the ground. He was clutching his chest as he knelt down on the floor.
"Jeonghan!" Seungcheol held his shoulder as he caressed his arms, "What happened? Wait! I'm- I'm sorry, I got carried away. I'm-"
The younger gently shrugged Seungcheol's arms away from himself. He stood up to collect his stuff and rushed out of the room without saying a single word.
Seungcheol stood in the middle of the hall, baffled by the situation. He wanted to laugh about how he would end up with the same results every time. No one was there to blame him this time but at that moment, he himself hated what he just did.
"I fucked up again." He scoffed as he slammed his hand on the table thrice, "Choi Seungcheol, you can't be helped. Just go die or something."
Although Seungcheol blamed himself, it wasn't completely his fault to get such a reaction from Jeonghan. Yes, it wasn't his fault that he still didn't know about a lot of aspects of the younger's life.
A/n : Lol, who thought that Jeonghan's dad's death was the reason of their rivalry? Cuz it wasn't lmaoo.
Vampires vs demons but, I ain't letting you guys choose a side. Who's excited for their fight?
