-Earlier that day-

-Lucy's POV-

"Natsu! Natsu!" I shouted with glee. My pink-haired partner turned around to face me.

"What's up, Luce?" he asked me.

"Do you know what tomorrow is?" I asked.

He put on a confused expression. I sighed. I should've known better than to think that my dense partner would know what tomorrow is.

"Isn't  tomorrow the first of July?" he said, running his fingers through his spiky pink hair.

"And do you know what the means?" I asked him. He once again put on his confused expression. I sighed again. He doesn't remember that it's my own birthday tomorrow. Apparently, I asked everyone in the guild and nobody knows.

"Oh yeah!" he shouted. He pulled out a wrapped up box. The wrapping paper was covered in gold glitter and the red ribbon fit on perfectly. "Happy early birthday, Lucy!"

I stared in amazement at what my dense best friend got me. I delicately untied the ribbon and unwrapped the golden wrapping paper. In my hand now, was a white box that was as large as my hand.

I opened the box. Inside, there was a charm bracelet. There were four slots where charms could hang but, there were only three charms. There was a cute little dragon, a golden star, and the Fairy Tail guild mark.

"You'll get the fourth one tomorrow," he said.

"What do the charms mean?" I asked, letting my curiosity get the best of me.

"Well, the dragon is me, the star is you and the guild mark represents the day we first met," he said, little bits of pink popping into his cheeks. 

On instinct, I hugged him. I swore that Levy, Mirajane, and Wendy were fangirling right now.

"Thanks, Natsu!" I giggled.

Natsu turned a bright red that would have put Erza's hair to shame. "I-I'm g-going to p-pick a j-job." he stuttered as he walked to the request board.

He came back holding an S-Class job. "ARE YOU CRAZY?! WE CAN'T TAKE A JOB LIKE THIS?! WOULD YOU LIKE TO GET KILLED BY ERZA WHEN SHE GETS BACK FROM HER JOB?!" I yelled.

He put on his famous grin and said, "This job will take at least an hour and it's here in Magnolia so, we do the job and get the money before Erza comes back. It'll be a piece of cake, Luce!"

I was convinced by my dense pink haired partner. "What's the job about?" I asked.

"There have been some extremely bloody murders lately. They want some Fairy Tail wizards to come and catch the perpetrator," he explained.

"I didn't even know that you could use such a big vocabulary, Natsu." I thought. "Okay so, we're catching a murderer. Let's get started then." I said.

-TIME SKIP TO TWO HOURS LATER-

Natsu and I had split up to search different parts of the town. It was dark out so, I tightly held a flashlight in my hand. I held my keys in my other hand, ready to attack at any moment.

But that was when I heard, "LUCY!!!"

That was Natsu's voice. I know it. I began to run and I was running fast to where Natsu's cry for help was. I wasn't going to slow down anytime soon.

I reached an alley that was stained with crimson. In the middle, there was a figure on top of a pink haired male. That was Natsu...

"NATSU!!!" I screamed. The figure didn't even flinch. What I didn't realize then was what my enemy was. I only got a glimpse before the figure disappeared. There were white hair and pointed teeth covered in crimson.

What was that thing?

Without hesitation, I ran toward Natsu, who was battered, bloody and bruised. I held his hand tightly and decided to call 911. The paramedics came fast since they were near.

"Miss Lucy, come with us please." the doctor said as they hooked up Natsu.

"Can you please give us some information, Miss Lucy?" the doctor asked as we rode to the hospital.

"His name is Natsu Dragneel, he's in the guild Fairy Tail, he's eighteen, has pink hair and onyx eyes," I said.

"Do you know his blood type?" the doctor asked.

"I think it's O," I answered.

The doctor hooked up an IV tube into Natsu, along with a breathing machine. I slowly reached for his hand and I held it tightly. Tears began to well up in my eyes but, I wasn't afraid to let them out.

"Is there anyone we should inform on this incident?" the doctor asked.

"Inform the Fairy Tail guild, immediately," I said.

By the time we got there, the whole guild was there. Natsu was rushed to the emergency room. I sat in a chair next to Gray and Erza. I cried my eyes out while Gray attempted to comfort me. Master Makarov came up to Erza and told her to get a search team to catch the killer. Master Makarov went back to the guild and Erza took half the guild out to find the attacker.

Gray, Levy, Mirajane, Wendy, Romeo, Charle, Happy, Juvia, and Cana were the last ones left in the room, along with me.

The doctor rushed out of the room with bloody gloves and asked us, "Do any of you have a blood type O?"

"What's going on?" Gray asked.

"We've run out of blood type O and if we don't hurry, he'll soon die."

"I am," I said quietly.

"Lu-chan! You could get sick or worse!" Levy shouted.

"I'm not just going to let Natsu die, Levy-chan!" I screamed.

She hugged me and I could tell that she understood but, before I left, I heard her and Mirajane and Cana snickering. As I walked into the emergency room, the sight of Natsu made me want to cry. His tan skin was pale, his onyx eyes seemed lifeless, and even his pink hair seemed a bit lighter now. There was a large gash on his forehead and his chest, he was bruised and beaten, and he was covered in blood.

"L-L-Lucy?" he said weakly. I held his hand tightly. I began to cry my eyes out but, that's when I noticed one of Natsu's injuries. On the right side of his neck, were bites marks. I remember that the figure had fangs. Then, what or who attacked Natsu?

"S-Stop crying, Luce," he said as he weakly smiled at me.

"It's alright, Natsu. You'll be out of here in no time. I'm going to save you." I said. I kissed his forehead and he weakly smiled.

"Please a seat, Miss Lucy so we can start the procedure." the doctor said.

I sat down and I fell into a dark abyss.
