Ava had always believed in herself. I suppose it was this belief that pulled people to her. She was looked up to and envied, while I was left in the dust.

What annoyed me, was her indifference to something I'd wanted all my life. Attention.

The smiles, the little fangirls, the boys — all of them were nothing but mere distractions in her well-planned life. She had everything she wanted and never felt the need to indulge in more. 

While she was civil with everyone, the only person she truly opened up to was her best friend; me.

But all of that was before him. 

Ava the 'poster girl'—the one everyone wanted to please and be, existed only before his sweet words and promises of a 'forever' broke the walls around her and his betrayal crushed her fragile soul, leaving a gaping hole in its place. A hole that she could never mend.

After he left she became a new person altogether. She always told me that he'd left not just with her heart but with the light she used to sustain herself. And the person who had once been the brightest star of all finally collapsed into herself and turned into nothing but a black hole — a dark, empty scar of something that had once been beautiful.

She was now a black hole so intent on pulling us into her lure that she'd forgotten she was a star once.

In her thirst for power, she'd swallowed everything that had ever made her powerful leaving behind a trail of heartaches and torn relations that did nothing but break her even further. In her hunger to gain, she lost everything.

I was the only constant in her life. The only color that had overcome her darkness and seen the myriad of color underneath it all.

Today, she finally saw it. And I couldn't help a smile graze my lips as I felt Ava's limp arms wrap around my torso in a tight embrace and her tears stain my shirt with an oddly comforting wetness.

"Mia," was the only word that her lips could shape and helplessness was the only thing she knew.

Finally. Things were finally on track.
