Chapter Twenty
A/N Been missing in action for a while now, sorry about that. Had some stuff to get through, I'm back at least with another chapter.
The tents slowly became buildings. Several more people moved into the undamaged part of the mountain. Erebor was becoming a home. Lumina was still dressed in red. White didn't suit her anymore. She was too destructive- far too chaotic for such a color.
It had been a year since her return home. The dwarves had welcomed her with open arms. Bilbo, had left. He said he would return home- as he did. She sometimes had letters delivered to her from him, his annoyance at his relatives for they thought him dead; and any other mild grievances he thought to share.
Life for Lumina was busy. Productive. She was a queen. She hardly had time to think about the battle and where she had spent so much time after.
It was the winding down of the evening when a young maid stumbled into her office.
"Malady, the mail bringer has arrived, shall I bring you the letter he carries?"
Lumina nodded with a small smile, "Of course." Lumina stood smoothing the pale grey gown with red embroidery.
Her hair was in a loose half braid and her black onyx still on her head. Her pale claws were adorned in rings she had found throughout the palace.
She folded he wings tight to her back as she exited the room to wait for the maid in the hallway. The mousey haired woman rounded the corner, a white envelope in hand.
"Here, malady. Anything else for now?"
"You are dismissed Indra, thank you." The woman nodded and quickly left.
Lumina examined the letter, the wax seal was from Mirkwood. She sat down back in her study. She used her claw to gently slice open the letter. She pulled out the gold trimmed invitation.
It was an invitation to the Elvish ball, not a similar to the festival of Starlight. However this ball was more lavish and took place every ten years. It was for the royalty and nobility in alliance with Mirkwood. She supposed it now applied to her, as well as Thorin and his nephews. Kili and Fili. However Kili would attend with his fiancee Tauriel.
Lumina liked the red haired elf. She was strong spirited and had an elegant wit about her.
However she had to make sure Thorin wouldn't deny the invitation. Simply because he still held a petty hatred towards a certain royal elf.
It had lessened since her recovery and the alliance, but it still lingered.
The dwarf was her second, he did a lot of the meetings outside the kingdom, whilst she stayed behind. She was more of a hands on person.
Her silver eyes landed on a small sliver of paper in the base of the invitation. Brows furrowing Lumina grabbed a hold of the small paper.
Unfolding it she found it was a note.
I do hope to see you there.
I find the gardens have bloomed since your time here.
Perhaps I could show you,
-T
Lumina smiled down at the paper. She'd have to find a dress.
