Chapter 4

Rose's POV

Nicki, though I often couldn't stand her, knew me well. I didn't like to admit it, not at all, but she did love me as I loved her. She gently convinced me to come back home, and after a bit of coaxing, I was back to my happy normal self. Mom didn't matter. So what if she didn't care about me? Other people did.

We reached the house in a matter of minutes, amd by the time we got inside, I was laughing hysterically at a joke that Nicki had made. Dad smiled at us and shook his head happily.

"Rose," he started, "I know that you don't really want a big party or anything," Nicki grumbled behind me, "and that it isn't the best idea for the both of you, but I did invite a couple of your reservation friends to visit. They should be getting here shortly." We are part Quileute Indian, so we lived in the rez with everyone else. Nicki went to Forks High School though. As a vampire hybrid, she risked causing an influx of new werewolves whenever she spent time with the tribe, so dad felt it was best for her to stay away.

"Dad? Exactly how many people did you invite?" I asked nervously. I'm not a people person.

"Oh, only two," he answered nonchalantly. Alright, I was less likely to die.

Just then, the doorbell rang. I went to open it and was taken aback by whay I saw. Atleast ten people stood there grinning from ear to ear.

"Happy Birthday Rose!!!!"

"Be right with you!" I yelled. I slammed the door and ran. "Nicki, you need to go, now. Apparently Dad invited everyone in our grade on the rez. It'll be pretty bad if you stay... Sorry." She nodded and reluctantly walked away, probably to read. I walked over to my dad, who had let everyone inside. "You're despicable," I said in a matter-of-fact tone. I punched him in the arm, took a deep breath, and walked over to greet my many guests.
