Rose's POV
My eyes snapped open to the smell of bacon and eggs cooking: my favorite. I jumped out of bed and ran out if my room. Nicki was still asleep, so I tiptoe quietly past her room as to let her sleep. My dad stood next to the stove whistling a happy, upbeat tune. I crept up behind him and wrapped my arms tightly behind him in a big hug.
"Morning, Daddy!" I said.
"Hey kid! How's my birthday girl?"
"Great! Thank you for making breakfast." I smiled and took my plate to the table.
"Umm, I don't mean to spoil the mood, but your mom called." My dad said nervously. My fist hit the table with a pound, and my fork went flying across the room. "Now I know that you two don't get along, but-"
"Dad, she hates me. She probably was just calling to talk to Nicki..." I said stubbornly.
Dad didn't give up, however. "At least give her a chance. She wants to lo-"
"Love me?!" I cried. "She practically disowned me! Wait she did disown me!" I roughly threw my dishes into the sink and walked out of the house, not stopping until I reached the beach. I sighed and sat on a big rock, tucking my knees under my chin. It seemed like only my dad cared about me much, and even then, he didn't understand me too well. I looked out at the water, the waves lapping at the sand. Yep, sweet sixteen indeed.
