Chapter 4
"Emerson?" Gemma asks allowing him and Remington inside.
"Gem, we need your help," Emerson says.
"What do you need?" She asks, a concerned look on her face.
"Do you happen to know how to make a cure for a vampire who's been poisoned?"
Gemma nods, "I do, it's quite complicated, but it should be done in about three days. They'll be back to normal after."
"Do you need any help."
"Yeah, could you guys go and grab some lavender? I can at least make something to help your friend feel less pain while we try to do what we need for the cure itself."
"I can grab it," Emerson says.
"It's in the garden on the left. You should be able to find it fairly easily."
Emerson nods and goes out the back door, he walks to the garden. It wasn't too awful big. He wondered around for a minute, looking and admiring. The flowers she had here were quite charming, but that wasn't really the focus at hand. He spots the lavender, only a few seconds away from going over there and grabbing it.
But he could have sworn he saw a figure. He noticed it once again just a few seconds later, it slowly moved towards him. It looked familiar to him he just didn't know how. For every step the figure took he took one back, he thought it was a hallucination since he's had those for years, but he couldn't be quite dura. The figure came just about inches from his face. It was as if darkness surrounded him, the sound of a man laughing played in his head as he fell to his knees.
His breathing was shaky and the only thing he could focus on was the laughing. It was the same laughing he heard when he was alone all those years ago. He was locked away a few decades back, he never believed in ghosts or anything of that sort but it was hard not to after that, something seemed to have been haunting him all that time.
He'd hallucinate in there, but he always woke, he always became aware, he couldn't die, it was just never ending. He was starved, he was way too weak to fight back, as much as he wanted it all to end, it was just a cycle. He was scared and desperately wanted to end his own life in there just so it could stop. He was lucky he couldn't actually do it or else he would've.
The laughing he's hearing began overwhelming him. He was sitting in the grass burying his head in his knees. His fists clench every time he hears the man laugh.
It had been a few minutes and Emerson didn't return, Remington grew slightly worried so he went outside to see if Emerson was okay. His eyes widened when he saw his younger brother on the ground nearly crying.
"Emerson?" Remington asks, he sat next to his younger brother. He had no idea what was going on with Emerson. He just knew that something was wrong.
Emerson felt Remington's arms wrap around him. He knew his older brother spoken to him moments before, but he had no idea what he was saying. He was lost inside the nightmare world his mind played for him. Anything that was real got blocked out. Remington didn't know how to even help his younger brother. He didn't even know what he was scared of. He didn't even know anything about what had happened to him, so he had no idea what triggered his attack.
"Emerson, whatever you're seeing, it isn't real, I'm right here," Remington says softly.
"I-I'm scared..."
"You're here, you're with me, you're safe."
His vision was starting to become clearer. The only thing that's stopping him from being able to see clearly was the fact that he was so close to breaking down. He looked at Remington guilt filling him as he remembered what they were supposed to be doing. They had to help Everest, but he could barely even help himself right now.
"I'm sorry..."
"It's fine, okay," Remington says, "what even happened that made you freak out?"
Emerson sighs and look down at his feet for a moment before pushing himself up off the ground. He looks back at the garden ignoring the question completely. It was only moments later that he spots the lavender again and grabs it.
Remington got quite worried about Emerson after seeing him like that. Remington looks at him noticing that he grabbed what they needed. Emerson starts walking, he follows after him. Once they made it inside Emerson just handed her what she needed and sat down. Gemma already knew something was up but didn't know how to address it. Emerson doesn't even speak. He was dead silent.
"Emerson? Are you okay?" Gemma asks.
"I'm fine," Emerson sighs.
It was quite obvious that he wasn't, but if he didn't want to talk about it, then she wouldn't make him. Remington came into the room just moments later. He sat down next to Emerson a sad smile on his face.
"Emerson?"
"I'm okay now," Emerson sighs annoyance lacing his voice.
Remington nods and looks at Gemma, "is there anything else you need help with?"
"I can do this myself now. It's just going to be a moment," Gemma says lightning the candle that's next to her.
She closes her eyes and mumbles something under her breath. The flame of the candle rises and Remington watched as the water from the bowl she had risen into the air. The lavender and the other unidentifiable things she was using joining with it. It was graceful, every thing seemed to effortlessly work together to make some sort of liquid. It only took a few minutes. She poured it into a small vile and hands it to Remington, noticing that Emerson was quite distracted.
"You should be good to go now, just come back in a couple of days, I may need your guys help then."
Remington nods and stands up. He taps on Emerson's shoulder signaling for him him to come with. They got into Emerson's car and started making their way to Sebastian's place.
"Em? What happened earlier?" Remington asks.
"I had a panic attack, that's it," Emerson says his grip on the steering wheel tightening.
"I'm sorry if I seem nosy I just wanna make sure you're fine."
"How many times do I have to say it for you to believe it?" Emerson asks.
"Maybe I'd believe you if you were actually being honest with me," Remington sighs looking out the window, "I know you don't really like being open, and I get that but I just worry about you sometimes."
"Rem, I'm glad I get to see you, and I know you mean well, but I'm not going to talk about this. So please just forget about it."
"Emerson-"
"Just forget about it Remington!" Emerson says harshly.
Remington doesn't say anything after that, he knew Emerson was getting upset and didn't want to make things any worse. The rest of the ride was quiet. Emerson thought about apologizing, he knew he was too harsh on Remington, after all he was only trying to help. He just couldn't think of what to say and it was dead silent, it almost seemed better off that way.
It didn't take too long for them to reach their destination. Remington was the first to exit the car. At that point he just wanted to see Everest. He just wanted to get his feelings straight, and finally be able to say what's on his mind. He was worried about Everest, he was worried about everyone at this point. Everything just seemed to be going downhill, not really for him personally, but for everyone else. He was just on the sidelines watching.
He must've stood at the doorstep for too long, because once he snapped back into reality he sees that the door is open and Emerson was maneuvering past him to get inside. Remington sighs and walks in, almost immediately he spots Everest who's sitting on the couch by himself.
"Rem?" Everest questions spotting Remington.
"Hey, Ever," Remington says.
"What are you doing back so soon?"
Remington sits down next to Everest. A small smile appeared on his face when he looked at the younger boy. He grabs the vile from his pocket and hands it to Everest.
"It won't cure you, but it'll take away your pain. Gemma is making the cure for you but it'll take a few days."
Everest nods and drinks it, his expression made it quite obvious that it didn't taste good, but it was much better than being in constant pain.
"thank you for all of this," Everest says laying his head on Remington's shoulder.
"It's the least I can do, love."
He notices that Ever's face turned red. A small chuckle escapes him when he sees how flustered Everest had gotten.
"Rem, if something happens and I don't make it-"
"Ever, you'll make it, I can promise you that, I'll do whatever it takes. If something does happen, I'll try like hell to fix it," Remington says.
"Do you have to go back anytime soon?"
"Not for a couple of days, so, how about we make the most of the time we have right now."
