Chapter 2
1941, A small town in Arizona
"What's wrong with me?" Remington asks himself. When he came he always found himself staring at the man behind the counter. They talked quite often and became extremely close. Something just drew him to Everest. It was unexplainable. Maybe it was because he knew he was a vampire, or maybe it was his hypnotizing green-blue eyes, it reminded him of nature, the longer he looked the more gorgeous they seemed. His chocolate brown hair reached his jawline.
"Oh Remington, you're drinking alone tonight?" Everest asks.
"Well my brothers are out of town now, so it's not like I really have anyone else to drink with," Remington sighs.
"You've been here nearly every night. Is there something on your mind?" He asks, concern lacing his voice.
"Whatever happened was many years ago," Remington says messing with the ring he had on his finger.
Everest sets his hand on top of Remingtons giving him a soft smile.
"If you ever want to talk, I'm always about."
"Yeah, yeah, I know, but it's been just me and my brothers most of the time. It's been hundreds of years since I really tried being around new people, so I'm thankful for even having someone to talk to right now," Remington sighs.
"Of course, I'm glad you started coming here, it's been a while since I've been with someone like myself."
Remington nods and looks down at his hands.
"Do you think falling in love as a vampire was hard?" Remington asks, "I've always been scared to for a while, but I've been thinking about it recently, Emerson found Maze, Sebastian found Kailah. I think I just need to be with someone who's perfect for me."
"I'm not exactly one to talk since I'm single and I have been for a long while now, but I think it's as hard as you make it out to be, your mindset is all that matters when trying to get into a relationship. Remington, I love making money from you getting drinks every night, but I think you ought to look for someone soon."
"You know but I'll have to move from this town at some point, I can't just live this small town life forever. I want someone who can stay with me, I want someone who will be able to adjust to new places and travel with me."
"I know a few people who are like us if you want me to introduce ya," Everest suggests.
"I already know someone. I'm just not sure that they like me back," Remington says.
Remington could have sworn he saw a flash of jealousy on Everest's face. All he knew was whatever that look was it left as soon as it came.
"Who is she?" Everest asks.
Remington shakes his head, "Ever."
You should be able to tell me. I'm like your best friend," Everest whines.
"It's ridiculous," Remington sighs his finger tips tapping against the counter as he spoke.
"How so?" Everest asks.
"It's a guy," Remington admits looking back at Everest.
"Oh, so who is he?" Everest asks.
Remington sighs wondering if he should say something or just leave. He doesn't want to ruin his friendship with Everest, he can't even bare the thought of losing his closest friend.
"I-It's you Everest, I think I've always known it was you," Remington admits.
"Remington, I don't know what to say," Everest says pleasently surprised.
"Then don't say anything, don't tell me you will never return those feelings. I told you it was ridiculous, Ever," Remington sighs.
"No, Rem, I like you, I just don't know what everyone else will think."
"I'm sorry Everest."
The bar door bursts open, it was nearly an hour after closing time and Everest swore he locked those doors. They were the only ones left in there, what could this man possibly want from them?
"Sir, you're not supposed to be here," Everest says stepping out from behind the counter.
Remingtons turns around to look at the man. His eyes widen as he saw who had entered. It was the same person he wanted to forget about. It was the same man who had killed Erin back in 1691.
"E-Everest go, I'll handle him." Remington sighs trying to stay calm.
Realization hit Everest, but it hit him too late. As he realized that the man was a hunter he had already come face to face with Remington. He had a stake in his hand and he was ready to kill him with it. He pointed the stake at Remingtons heart just seconds from stabbing him. Before the hunter could do it, Everest tackled him. The man dropped the stake so Everest grabbed it and attempted to stab him with it but he was unsuccessful. The hunter had much faster reflexes and had turned the stake back on Everest.
He stabbed Everest's chest just barely missing his heart. The hunter then disappeared before any of them could react. That once again left Remington and Everest alone in the bar.
Remington falls to his knees tears clouding his vision as he saw the pained look on Everest's face. The stake was soaked with poison that was lethal enough to kill a vampire, Remington knew that. So when Everest got stabbed, he got a one way ticket to his grave.
Remingtons grips the stake and pulls it out of his chest careful not to leave any splinters behind. Everest gasps, pain radiated through his body. Remington tried soothing him, he held Everest in his arms knowing it wouldn't be long until the poison would start reacting.
"Don't leave me, please," Remington says just moments from bursting into tears.
"R-Rem, it's okay, he didn't kill me, I'm going to be fine," Everest says unaware of his fate.
"Everest..." Remington says.
Moments passed, neither of them said a word. Everest was still in pain and Remington still held him. He was scared to move Everest, the least thing he wanted to do was hurt him even more.
"Why am I not healing? What's happening to me?" Everest asks, he now figured things were much more serious than he once thought.
"I'm going to take care of you Everest, and you're going to be okay," Remington says tears began streaming down his face, "you'll be fine, Ever, I promise."
He moves the hair out of Everests face so he can see better. Everest notices that Remington had began crying and reaches up for Remingtons face using his thumbs to dry his tears.
"I love you..."
Remington knows he can't just promise that Everest would be fine. He just knew that if Everest was to die, he didn't want him to die scared.
He had to get a cure, or else the same thing that happened to Erin would happen to him. He couldn't help Erin, but if he could even have a chance to help Everest, he'd do whatever it takes to make sure he could live.
