Chapter 27: Escape
Sai-Rin held her arms out with tears in her eyes, and both of her newly reunited parents pulled her out of Alastor's arms, and into a tight hug. "I thought I'd never see you again..." Sai-Rin cried, wiping tears from her turquoise eyes. "We thought the same, Sweetie..." Sai-Rin's father replied. "How'd you two end up down here?" Sai-Rin asked once her tears had subsided. Sai-Rin's parents looked at one another, then back at their daughter. "It's a long story." said Sai-Rin's mother.
~A Year And A Half Earlier~
It was all over the news, and everyone knew of it. Chloe, Sophie, and Adrian were the unfortunate ones to inform Sai-Rin's parents of the 'accident' that took their daughter's life. They believed it, until a police confession from the three teens was released, revealing that what happened to Sai-Rin was no accident. They'd been planning it for a while. Chloe was jealous that an unpopular girl like Sai-Rin got so much attention from Adrian, who Chloe had a crush on at the same time. In truth, Adrian had no feelings for Sai-Rin, and just got a kick out of playing with her heart.
If they took Sai-Rin out of the picture, Chloe would have a higher chance of winning Adrian's heart. Now, everyone knew that Chloe and Adrian were a match made in Hell. Nobody felt a bit of grief when it was announced weeks later that Adrian had passed away in a drunk driving accident, with Chloe dying of a broken heart, not that she had one in the first place, shortly after his funeral. Things got strange after that. It was a mystery that a makeshift gravestone bearing Sai-Rin's name appeared on the beach months after her death. Nobody had been to the beach to retrieve her body, and her family was left with having to bury an empty casket.
So, where did it come from?
"I can't believe it all comes down to this, Richard..." Sai-Rin's mother whispered, her hand trembling as she raised the gun to her head. "It really does, doesn't it Bella?" Richard replied, a gun also in his hand and pressed against the side of his head. "What if we never see her again?" Bella asked. "We will, one way or another." Richard said as they both cocked the guns. "One.....Two....."
~Flashback End~
"So...that's what happened?" Sai-Rin asked as she looked at her parents in shock. They both nodded. "By the way, who's that smiley deer guy behind you?" Richard asked. Sai-Rin looked behind her with a smile. "Oh, that's right!" she said, waving Alastor over and letting him pick her up. "Mom, Dad, this is my boyfriend, Alastor!"
Bella smiled. "Ooh, fancy name!" Richard lifted an eyebrow. "Yeah. I like it!" he said, walking up to Alastor. Alastor's ears slightly went down in nervousness. "O-Oh. Dad, Alastor doesn't really like dogs that much." Sai-Rin muttered. Richard stepped back a bit.
"Oh, sorry about that." Alastor chuckled. "No no, it's ok! I suppose it's an honor to meet my beloved's parents!" "He's quite the charmer, Honey! You chose a great guy!" Bella whispered to Sai-Rin. Sai-Rin giggled softly, a gentle smile on her face. "Yeah...he sure is..."
She suddenly noticed Alastor fidgeting with something in his pocket. "What's the matter, Alastor?" Sai-Rin asked. Alastor blushed a bit. "N-Nothing, Dear. Let's just get back to the hotel, and I'll tell you." Sai-Rin's eyes lit up. "Oh, right! The hotel! Mom, Dad, you have to come with us!"
Richard and Bella looked at each other, then smiled. "Of course, Sai-Rin!" Bella replied. When Sai-Rin, Alastor, Bella, and Richard got to the hotel, Sai-Rin was immediately crushed in a hug as Husk literally flew from the bar to her. "I was so worried, I thought you were gone forever!" Husk cried, burying his face in Sai-Rin's shoulder while Sai-Rin petted his soft fur to comfort him. "It's ok, Kittyboy. I'm fine now." And for once, Husk was ok with that nickname.
Charlie and Niffty tended to any wounds Alastor and Sai-Rin had, before going to greet Richard and Bella. Bella thought Vaggie and Charlie made the most adorable couple, while Richard and Angel exchanged dirty jokes. Suddenly, a mixture of a scream and a gasp was heard from Sai-Rin. Everyone turned their heads to her, and a million eyes widened as they beheld Alastor, the all powerful Radio Demon and overlord of Hell, down on one knee in front of Sai-Rin, holding a small black velvet box containing a ring topped with a blood red orb of sea glass.
Alastor took a deep breath. "Sai-Rin, I never thought anyone, human or demon, could make me feel the way you make me feel. Every time I see or think of you, my heart feels as if it's going to burst out of my chest. Being away from you feels like a fate worse than death. Your hair is softer than the wings of an angel, and I can't help but get lost in those beautiful eyes. And of course, your laugh is like music to my ears. Darling, you make eternity in Hell worth every moment. So, would you do me the honor of being my bride?"
The entire room was silent as a cemetery. Sai-Rin looked at the ring, then at Alastor with tear glazed eyes. Alastor gazed back at her with a lovesick, hopeful look on his face. As tears spilled from Sai-Rin's eyes, she held out her hand, and as Alastor slipped the ring onto her finger, she whispered, "I do."
