Chapter 22: Drowning Sorrows
(This is gonna turn into an eventual songfic chapter!)
"He did what?!" Sai-Rin yelled as tears welled up in her eyes. "I'm sorry, Sai-Rin. I didn't want to sugarcoat it." Husk replied in a calm, gentle tone. He sat down and hugged Sai-Rin as he watched her cry into a small glass jar and then proceed to drink her own tears. Sai-Rin shuddered in Husk's embrace, trying her best to hold back sobs. Husk laid his chin on Sai-Rin's head, purring softly. "I'm so sorry, Pumpkin..." he whispered, looking into Sai-Rin's tear glazed turquoise eyes.
Sighing, Husk gently pressed Sai-Rin's face into his soft, furry chest. "You can let it out, Sweetheart." There were a few minutes of silence before Husk heard Sai-Rin take a deep breath and wail like a banshee. A few seconds later, he felt a giant wet spot on his chest fur. Husk wrapped his wings around Sai-Rin's trembling body and hugged her as tightly as he could. He could feel tears in his own eyes, and he quietly let them fall as he buried his face in Sai-Rin's hair.
It pained Husk to see his friend in such emotional agony. After a short while, Sai-Rin parted from the hug and laid her face on her knees as Husk patted her back. "Tell you what." Husk finally said, leaning Sai-Rin's head on his shoulder. "Why don't we both head downstairs and get a drink?" Sai-Rin sniffled, wiping tears from her eyes that refused to cease. "S-Sounds like a plan, KittyBoy..." she replied.
Husk sighed, lifting Sai-Rin up and carrying her downstairs to the front desk/bar. "Heh...It seems like only yesterday we were enjoying a basket of cheese sticks right here..." Husk commented, pouring a couple shots of fireball whiskey into a cup of hot apple cider, Sai-Rin's favorite drink in life. "Comin' atcha, Pumpkin." Husk said, gently sliding the comfort drink across the bar, where Sai-Rin swiftly caught it. Husk took a seat at the far end of the bar, trusty bottle of cheap booze in his paw. "So, it all comes down to this, eh Husk?" Sai-Rin muttered, leaning her chin on one hand while staring into the depths of her spiked cider and frowning at her reflection in the liquid surface. "Seems so, Sai-Rin." Husk replied, shaking his furry head with a frown.
"Well," Sai-Rin said, raising her mug with her free hand. "Here's to drowning sorrows." Husk clinked his bottle against Sai-Rin's mug with a frown, saying a quick "Cheers" before they each took a gulp of their drinks. Full body shudders ran through Husk and Sai-Rin, causing them to double over in their seats with their heads on the bar. Husk's eyes suddenly opened as he heard Sai-Rin's voice take on a new tone, and she began to sing(Play the song now).
Running 'round
Chasing hearts
Chasing bodies
To fix the parts
Husk's jaw dropped in awe. Sai-Rin's voice wasn't just beautiful, it was intoxicating.
I don't know how
I reached this place
So far from Heaven
So far from grace
Sai-Rin slid down from the barstool, her tail forming into legs as it touched the floor.
Am I wrong to give in to the pressure 'cause I feel like the city's got the better of me
All this casual love isn't what it seems
Sai-Rin hugged her arms as her eyes brimmed with tears once again, memories of happier times playing through her mind.
And I tried to imagine something closer
Than somebody who is good for me
I'm so tired of all this searching
Do I, Do I, Do I, Do I
Sai-Rin's eyes blazed with anger as she balled her hands into fists at her sides and let out her voice to echo throughout the hotel.
Go home to nothing
Or stay out for more
Give in to someone
Or lock down my door
Sai-Rin slowly returned to the bar, clutching her cider and taking a huge swig. She cringed as both the heat and cinnamon whiskey burned her mouth and throat, but she couldn't afford to give a damn about anything anymore.
Or drown all my shadows
Drown them like before
Sai-Rin gulped down the rest of her cider and finally laid her head in her arms.
I'm drowning shadows
Once more
Husk comfortingly patted Sai-Rin's hair, before singing the next verse.
The more I drink
The more I drown
Husk looked down at the half-full bottle in his hand with a look of hatred before setting it on a nearby shelf.
If I'm not thinking
I won't get down
His wings twitched, as if they were begging to become unfurled.
The more I rise above it all
The less I care about the fall
Husk paced back and forth behind the bar, a paw against his forehead and his ears flattened.
Am I wrong to give in to the pressure 'cause I feel like the city's got the better of me
All this casual love isn't what it seems
And I tried to imagine something closer
Than somebody who is good for me
As Husk approached the chorus of the song, he crouched on the bar and turned his eyes to the sky.
I'm so tired of all this searching
His face displaying a look of anger, Husk belted out the song from the bottom of his heart as he spread his wings one after the other.
Do I, Do I, Do I, Do I
Husk leaped off the bar, his wings puffing out and propelling him higher up into the air.
Go home to nothing
Or stay out for more
Sai-Rin watched as her friend swooped and spun in the air, his voice never losing its strength. Husk gazed out a red stained glass window, tears spilling from his eyes and flattening the fur on his face.
Give in to someone
Or lock down my door
Husk floated back until he was facing the ceiling, his wings just barely flapping as he stretched out an arm almost in desperation.
Or drown all my shadows
Drown them like before
He closed his eyes and let himself drift back down to the floor, before coming back to the bar and sitting beside Sai-Rin.
I'm drowning shadows
Once more
Sai-Rin let out all of her heartache as she enveloped Husk in a tight hug and wept.
Once more
Husk hugged back, wrapping his wings around Sai-Rin as they both sang together in perfect, melodious harmony.
Once more
Ooh~
Nobody expected someone with such a high status as the Radio Demon's to end up in a cruddy bar like this. He'd been there for a few hours now. Judging by the nearly empty bottle in his hand, something was clearly troubling him. They had no idea how much of an understatement that was.
~ALASTOR POV~
How could I do this? How could I have been so stupid? By now, Husker has no doubt told Sai-Rin what I had the gall to do. The poor thing probably never wants to see my face ever again. Pitch black tears run down my cheeks as I take a final drink from the bottle, shuddering as the alcohol burns its way down my throat. That's it, I've had enough.
Go home to nothing
I have to get back to the hotel, anyways. As I make my way back, I hear other demons whispering around me. I sigh, knowing exactly how I look to them. I finally make it back to the hotel and head straight to my room, where I fall down heavily on my bed. My head is already pounding. This is going to hurt in the morning, that's for sure.
Or stay out for more
After laying down for a minute or two, I go to look in the mirror. I'm immediately disgusted by what I see. My face is flushed, my hair is messed up, and I have circles under my eyes. So, this is what the all powerful Radio Demon has been reduced to. A pathetic, drunken mess. There hasn't been a moment where I didn't regret being unfaithful to Sai-Rin.
Give in to someone
What the hell was I thinking?!
Or lock down my door
~NORMAL POV~
Alastor's face twisted in anger as he slammed his fist against the wall. He turned around and slowly slid down to the floor, his knees up to his chest as he gripped his head in his hands. Huge tears spilled down Alastor's cheeks and splashed onto the floor in little puddles. He was crying so hard he soon lost control of his own breathing. Finally, Alastor threw his head back and let out a broken scream of anguish and regret. Sai-Rin would never forgive him.
Or drown all my shadows
Drown them like before
He had something more precious than anything in the world, and he threw it away without a second thought. He had her heart. With a shaky voice and a heavy heart, Alastor just barely managed to sing.
I'm drowning shadows
Once more
