Chapter 20: Summer Sunshine

(Play the song when I say)

Sai-Rin awoke in Alastor's bed to find that he wasn't there. A quick glance at the clock told her it was nearly 7:30 AM. As Sai-Rin got out of bed, she heard a light thump as something landed on the floor. She peeked over the bed side to see a pile of soft fabric. As Sai-Rin picked it up, she realized it was a dress.

She let out a small laugh. Alastor must've gotten it for her, but why? Sai-Rin looked on the floor and saw a little red sticky note that had probably fallen on the floor along with the dress and a little red and black frog plushie. She picked up the note and read it.

"My Dearest, Sai-Rin

It's such a lovely day out, so I took it upon myself to get you this dress, along with a little surprise outside in the forest. I'll see you there, my Little Love.

Forever yours, Alastor.

P.S. bring the frog."

Sai-Rin hugged the note to her chest, her heart fluttering as she tried on the sweet little dress. It was a perfect fit, and she twirled in front of the mirror. Sai-Rin walked out of Alastor's room and down the stairs, frog plushie in hand. As she passed the kitchen, Sai-Rin caught a faint scent that reminded her of a bakery. Walking out the door, Sai-Rin was greeted by a light breeze and the sun warm on her face. Looking at the ground, she saw a path leading to the forest ahead.

Sai-Rin followed the path, and soon came to a clearing in the woods(Play the song now). Sai-Rin smiled, pressing her hand to her cheek as she saw Alastor sitting on a checkered blanket, a china cup in hand. Also on the blanket were a small wicker basket, a teapot, a few small plates, and another china cup. Alastor looked peaceful, his eyes closed and a soft smile on his face as he quietly hummed a tune. Sai-Rin walked into the clearing and sat down by him, holding the frog plushie in her lap. Alastor opened his eyes and gave Sai-Rin a sideways glance.

"Hello, my Dear." he said, his voice unusually hushed. "You look so beautiful in that dress." Sai-Rin wrapped her arms around Alastor's arm and hugged him. "What's all this, Sweetheart?" she asked, making herself comfortable on the blanket. Alastor grinned, putting the china cup down. "I recently heard about this little trend called 'Cottagecore', and decided to try it out. It's quite a charming little aesthetic, to say the least."

Sai-Rin smiled. "What's in the basket?" she asked. Alastor grinned, opening up the basket and pulling out two glass jars of honey and jam, a little cup of butter, and a  loaf of bread. Sai-Rin gasped softly. "A-Alastor, did you..." Alastor gave Sai-Rin a charming smile and a wink.

"I made it all myself, Little Love. Including that little frog plushie you've got." he whispered, cutting a small slice from the loaf of bread and spreading some of the butter on it. Sai-Rin took the bread and bit into it. Not only was the bread absolutely delicious, the butter also had cinnamon in it! "Like it, Darling?" Alastor asked, drizzling some honey on a second slice of bread. Sai-Rin nodded enthusiastically. "I love it!"

Alastor let out a soft chuckle, reaching behind him. "Close your eyes, my Dear." he said. Sai-Rin did so, and felt something being softly placed on her head. As she opened her eyes, Alastor pressed his hands to his heart. "Aww, that flower crown looks absolutely adorable on you, Sai-Rin!" he cooed. Sai-Rin reached up to her head and felt soft flower petals beneath her hand.

"Oh, Al...You shouldn't have!" she whispered. Alastor hugged her close before picking up the delicate little teapot. "Would you like a drink, Darling?" he asked. Sai-Rin tilted her head to the side. "I thought you didn't like tea." Alastor chuckled.

"Oh, this isn't tea, my dear Sai-Rin! Besides, I'm more of a coffee man myself." Sai-Rin shrugged, holding out her teacup. "Hmm, fair enough." Sai-Rin took a sip of the drink after putting a bit of sugar into her cup, and her eyes widened. "Is this strawberry infused water?" she asked. "Yes it is, my Dear!" Alastor said with his usual enthusiasm.

The rest of the day Alastor and Sai-Rin spent laying in each others arms, listening to the sounds of the forest, and finally, taking a nap in the summer sunshine.
