Chapter 17: Midnight Memories
Sai-Rin woke from another trauma-induced nightmare about her death, then relaxed as she felt Alastor's arms around her waist and his body pressed against her back. She turned around so she faced him, and gently tugged on the fabric of his pajama shirt, waking him up. Alastor's eyes fluttered open, glowing red in the darkness. "Another nightmare, Dearest...?" he whispered, gently laying a hand against Sai-Rin's cheek. Sai-Rin nodded. Alastor sat up, running a hand through his sleep tousled hair.
"We really must do something about that, my Darling." he said, getting out of bed. Sai-Rin rolled herself up in the bedsheets to replace Alastor's warmth. "Like what?" she asked. Suddenly, Sai-Rin felt the blankets being pulled off of her. "C'mon, Alastor! I'm col-" Her heart skipped a beat and her face burned up as she saw Alastor now sitting in front of her, wearing nothing but a pair of swim trunks.
"Come along, Dear. Why don't we go pay a little visit to the hotel pool?" he asked, lifting Sai-Rin up. "A quick stress swim should help you right out!" Sai-Rin leaned her head against Alastor's shoulder. "But it's the middle of the night, Babe...." she groaned, furiously rubbing the sleep out of her eyes. "That's the best part, Sai-Rin!" Alastor said enthusiastically. "The whole pool all to ourselves."
Sai-Rin shook her head. "I don't see why a hotel in literal Hell needs to have a pool." she grumbled, still a bit cranky from being so rudely awakened. Alastor let out that charming laugh of his, starting to walk down the hall. "Darling, EVERY hotel has a pool, so why should this one be any different?" Sai-Rin got so lost in Alastor's voice that she didn't realize they were now right outside the pool room. Alastor opened the door, and Sai-Rin felt a nice rush of warm air as they walked into the room.
Alastor gently sat Sai-Rin by the side of the pool. Sai-Rin slowly put her tail in the water, expecting it to be cold. Surprisingly, the water was pleasantly warm, like a hot tub. But then again, this is Hell. "Whenever you're ready, Dear." Alastor said, already in the water. Sai-Rin let out a soft giggle, pushing herself off from the edge and quickly swimming over to Alastor. Alastor lifted Sai-Rin halfway out of the water, holding her close.
"You've gotten better at this, Sai-Rin." he said, softly kissing the top of Sai-Rin's head. Sai-Rin nodded, resting her hands on Alastor's shoulders as he slowly lowered her back into the warm water. Sai-Rin gazed lovingly into Alastor's eyes as they swam deeper into the pool. "I love you, Dearest." Alastor sighed. Sai-Rin grinned. "I love you more, Alastor." she replied.
"Not possible, Sai-Rin." Alastor whispered, hugging Sai-Rin to his chest. "Alastor, I want to try something." Sai-Rin said. Alastor tilted his head slightly to the side. "What, Dear?" he asked. Sai-Rin wrapped her arms lightly around Alastor's neck. "Deep breath, Honey." she said.
Alastor did so, and Sai-Rin flipped her tail with so much power that Alastor was knocked off his feet, causing them both to go underwater. Almost immediately, Sai-Rin kissed Alastor, wrapping her tail around his waist. Alastor gently kissed back, closing his eyes and savoring the moment. As Alastor and Sai-Rin opened their eyes again, they both realized they were now at the bottom of the deepest end of the pool. Sai-Rin suddenly let go of Alastor, slapping her hands over her mouth as her eyes widened in fear. Thinking quickly, Alastor grabbed onto Sai-Rin and pushed off the bottom, swimming to the surface as fast as he could.
When they finally got their heads above the water, Alastor lifted Sai-Rin onto the edge of the pool before climbing out himself. "You alright there, Darling?" he asked, shaking water out of his hair. Sai-Rin nodded, finally getting her breathing under control. "I just d-don't like deep water...Let's just stay in the shallow end from now on, ok?" she asked. Alastor put an arm around Sai-Rin's shoulder. "Of course, Darling. But I think we should call it quits and turn in for the night." he replied.
The next morning, Charlie walked into the pool room to find Alastor and Sai-Rin sleeping in each other's arms on one of the lounge chairs.
