We've had the fastest declared death in one of my fanfictions, and now we've got one of the fastest added chapters.

Screw the plan, more chapters is always good.

Scar couldn't breathe.

He couldn't breathe, he couldn't move, hidden in his train, tears down his cheeks, the blanket around his shoulders too similar to Secret Life, too similar to being alone there. Someone was a murderer. One of his servermates, his friends. They could come at any moment and no one would know. Xisuma told everyone to stay separate. No one would see an attack. Scar couldn't protect himself. Not without killing or badly injuring them. And then they'd blame him. Again. He'd be the villain again. Everyone would hate him again. He'd get banned from Hermitcraft. And he'd be alone. Forever. Completely alone. Just like Secret Life. Just like Secret Life...

Fireworks.

Another hermit.

Scar curled up tighter, sobbing with terror as he heard the murderer land. This was it. He clutched tight to the Vex-magic necklace that should be controlling his respawn.

'Don't kill me...' He sobbed. 'Don't kill me...'

'Scar? Hey, hey, it's just me.'

Cub.

Scar looked over, and his terror turned to overwhelming relief to see Cub crouched next to him. He barely hesitated before hugging him and refusing to let go.

'It's ok...' Cub ran a hand through Scar's hair as he sobbed. 'It'll all be ok.'

'Oh my gosh... Cub...' Scar mumbled. 'I- I thought...'

'I know. I came as soon as I could.'

'Are you allowed to be here?'

'No. But I don't care what Xisuma says.'

'Cub...'

'I'm not letting you be alone after what you faced. Especially not with a murderer around... X should've told us to pair up. Anyone could kill anyone and just get away with it.' Scar nodded in reply, cuddling closer to Cub.

'How was the interrogation?'

'I shouldn't talk about it... I answered Xisuma's questions as honestly as I could. Bdubs got paranoid when I asked him to check on you...'

'Really?'

'He was asking a lot about Vexlings earlier. Probably thinks one of us did it. Or we were possessed.'

'True...' The pair were quiet again, just enjoying each other's company. Scar shuffled further into Cub's embrace, the hug that always comforted him, always cheered him up.

Until his communicator buzzed.

Xisuma.

'Oh no...' Scar buried himself further in Cub's labcoat.

'You've got an alibi. Xisuma shouldn't blame you for anything.'

'What if that thing about the Vex possessing us in sleep was correct?'

'It's not. Bdubs's just paranoid.'

'Can you come with me?'

'I'll be right here when you get back,' was the best Cub could promise. Scar hugged him even tighter. 'I promise... Good luck, man.' Cub gave his friend one last hug before Scar had to fly off for Xisuma's base.

It was a long wait for Cub until Scar returned. He paced the train, glancing occasionally at his necklace to see if it was glowing brighter, see if Scar was returning... eventually, it did, and not long after that, Scar appeared in the sky.

'Scar!' Cub called. 'How did it go?'

'I don't know...' Scar replied, before crashing onto the bed. 'I don't know if Xisuma blames me...'

'I'm sure he doesn't. You did nothing wrong.'

'The Vex have been too quiet recently, Cub...'

'They're happy with me taking over the permit office. And your work in the Poe-Poe.'

'I don't know...'

'Scar, it's ok. Grian saw you last night as well. He can vouch for you...' Scar remained uncertain. 'If that doesn't cheer you up... I've got cake.'

Scar looked up.

'...Concorp approved?'

'You know it is.' Cub handed over a generous slice. Scar, worry already disappearing, dug in immediately.

'Mmm... oh mmm... yup...' Scar closed his eyes, theatrically savouring the cake. Cub chuckled. 'Cake heav- Ah!' Scar, too busy being in cake heaven, slipped off the edge of the bed.

'Scar! You ok?' Cub peered over. For a moment Scar didn't move. 'Scar?'

'I have been murdered!' Scar declared 'With cake!' Cub burst out laughing. 'How could you do this to a poor, poor innocent Scar!'

'Nooo! Scar! Rest in peace, my dude. Rest in peace...' Scar giggled at the mock seriousness.

'But seriously, amoyzing cake as always. You've gotta tell me that recipe one day, Cub. Or I'm gonna search through the entirety of ConCorp until I've got it.'

'Cheers, man!'

'Oh, Cub! You're already here!'

Scar let out a second surprised little scream as Grian landed in the window.

'Just finished my interrogation, wanted to check up on Scar...' Grian peered down at him lying, awkward, on the floor. 'Scar? What doing?'

'Cub murdered me with cake!

'Ah. Makes sense. I'm guessing it's all magicky though. Like always?'

'I've got non-vexy cookies!' Scar offered.

'Cookies? You never mentioned these earlier, Scar!' protested Cub as Scar scrambled over to his ender chest.

'Well, we had cake first, and cake's better than cookies.'

'I don't know...' Grian said, 'I've never got to have this magical cake of yours, Cub.' He accepted the initial handful of cookies Scar gave him, starting to eat. The three were left in a happy silence, munching happily through cake and cookies.

'Thanks for coming to cheer me up, guys,' Scar spoke once they were almost all gone. 'I really needed you.'

'No problem.' Cub put an arm around his friend's shoulder, 'I knew this would be tough for you. After... everything.'

'Yeah,'

'We'll find who the murderer is,' Grian shuffled closer too, 'And we'll get rid of them. Before they hurt anyone else... whoever they are.'

'Any thoughts?' Cub asked. Grian sighed.

'Well... I had a good view of everyone at the meeting, and I did catch Ren fidgeting with something in his pocket.'

'Really?'

Grian nodded.

'Yeah. And, more importantly than that, Zedaph wasn't there at all.'

'Zedaph?'

'I looked everywhere for him. I know Wels was hiding. And he was crying, I checked. But Zedaph didn't show up at all.'

'You think he's behind it then?'

'I'm not making assumptions, but I think that's very suspicious.'

'He is also Zedaph,' was Scar's best justification. 'He stays out of stuff.'

'Yeah, but this is more important than a resistance or a game...'

'We should keep an eye on him.'

'Maybe the murderer got him too,' was Scar's idea. 'They got Jevin, and now they've killed Zedaph.'

'You think?' Cub's eyes widened. 'Should someone check on him?'

'We'll see if he goes to his meeting with Xisuma. If not, he'll handle it. Surely. Maybe.'

'What if he's still alive? And we can still save.'

'I've DMed him,' Grian said. 'But for now we should stay here together, have some more cake and cookies, and hope Xisuma finds the murderer.'
