ONLY READ THIS ON EMBERDRAGON34'S ACCOUNT ON WATTPAD! IF YOU'RE READING THIS ANYWHERE ELSE, IT'S BEEN STOLEN FROM THE ORIGINAL AUTHOR AND THE WEBSITE YOU'RE ON IS POTENTIALLY HARMFUL.

I started writing this, so I guess I'm now publishing.

Welcome to another Hermitcraft fanfiction! I'm probably on over 30 at this point, which I do not want to think about. This one will be set in Hermitcraft Season 10, and will probably only feature Hermits (with mention of other stuff).

There will be angst, swearing, descriptions of gore, but anything severe and non-spoilery will be given a TW (trigger warning) at the top of that particular chapter. There will be nothing sexual, and the closest you'll get to shipping is some QPR Convex because Convex and a lot of hugging because they're all friends.

And now you've survived and decided to read past the boring bit, have some fanfic as a reward!

Enjoy!

It was a cold summer morning on Hermitcraft when the Hermits, namely Cleo, found Jevin.

For a moment, she didn't spot him floating limp in the water around his base, the blue slime blending in all too well. But then they did. And their first response was panic.

'Jevin?!' Cleo splashed into the water. 'Oh my goodness, Jevin? What happened? Are you ok? Wait, is this a prank? I swear to Notch if this is a prank... well, I'll be very relieved but I'll also break your legs...' It didn't take long for her to reach him, pulling him ashore where he lay unmoving. 'Jevin? Wake up. Just wake up.' Cleo fought the urge to vomit or scream, just shaking him, trying to find a pulse or breath. Nothing. 'Please, Jevin... wake up...' She stepped back, pacing, as Jevin remained unmoving, 'I should tell Xisuma. I'm telling Xisuma. Yeah. That seems like a good idea, Cleo...' The rambling monologue of thoughts didn't help calm them down. And neither did the admittal that something was wrong that came with her message.

You whispered to Xisuma: Blob base

Even as they typed, the memory of Jevin deciding that emergency code for himself came to mind. And with it, the thought that, if he was dead, she might never hear him speak again. But he wasn't dead. He couldn't be. Surely, Cleo thought, Jevin wasn't dead. Respawn was on. This kind of stuff didn't happen. It had never happened. Surely it hadn't happened.

'Oh jeez that's not good,' Xisuma muttered as he landed, immediately falling next to Jevin. 'What happened?'

'I was just coming over to prank him, because he's Jevin and I was bored... I just saw him lying in the water. He wasn't moving, he didn't respond to me...'

'Alright... I can't find a pulse immediately... or breath. But he is a slime hybrid, which might mean it works differently...' Cleo just watched as Xisuma brought up screen after holographic screen of information on Jevin, injury, slime mechanics, scanning for anything of use. Until he stopped. Cleo stepped closer. Xisuma let out a deep breath, struggling to keep his voice even as he spoke.

'He's dead.'

'As in...'

'Permadead. Jevin's...' But he couldn't say it again. Xisuma closed his eyes as tears started to run down his cheeks and he started silently sobbing. Cleo didn't move.

'That's not possible, Xisuma. He has respawn. We all have respawn. You promised us that Hermitcraft was safe.' It was impossible for Cleo to remain calm, no matter how slowly she spoke. 'Do you even know how he died?! Or anything? Xisuma?' Xisuma didn't reply, continuing to cry. After a moment, Cleo stepped over, crouching next to him. They placed a hand on his shoulder. 'Xisuma? It'll... surely it's... what even happened?'

'Drowned.' was the only reply.

'As in... he was killed by a drowned? The zombie thing? Because I didn't see any injury. Though... I don't know how I'd tell, or see...'

'He drowned. Or something drowned him.'

'Murder?'

'It's not natural.'

'Watchers?'

'No.'

'Are you sure?'

'It's not Watchers.' With every word, Xisuma's voice broke a little more. 'There's no break in, the server's protected... I'm sure it's protected...'

'I'm sure it is,' Cleo put an arm around his shoulder. 'I'm sure you've done nothing wrong.'

'But if it's not external then...' He couldn't finish the thought. For a moment Xisuma just remained there next to Jevin, crying. Cleo tried comforting him, until he spoke again.

'Cub, xB and Hypno are his closest friends, right?'

'You're not telling everyone immediately?'

'His friends deserve to know first. I've told them to come over... oh Notch...'

'I can't believe this,' Cleo mumbled through her tears. 'How can he be dead? Why him? Why would...' Xisuma hugged Cleo as she started crying.

'I know,' Xisuma murmured back, but he couldn't fight his emotions either. The two just both stood there, hugging and crying, unable to stop. After a while, there were fireworks overhead.

'Xisuma? What's... holy smokes...' Cub froze as he landed. 'He...'

'Dead.'

For a moment, Cub didn't move. Cleo stepped out of the hug, glancing across through the blur of tears.'

'Cub...?' they spoke, but had no other words, not as Cub sunk to the ground next to Jevin, hands over his mouth. Cleo joined him, hoping it was somewhat helpful. 'Yeah... I know...'

'What's going... oh.' Like Cub, Hypno was stuck staring at Jevin as he arrived. But his attention drifted quickly to Cub, then Cleo sat next to him, knowing he wouldn't appreciate any physical contact but still wishing to comfort him, and finally Xisuma, hiding his emotion by checking the same screens he'd checked before for any reason why Jevin was now dead. 'Oh man...' Hypno leant against one of the trees on the edge of the forest, staring at Jevin again. 'That's... not what I expected...'

Cleo glanced over, nodding, before returning focus to Cub again. For a moment there was silence, before xB landed, spotted Jevin, and just slid to the ground and started sobbing. Hypno ran over to comfort him, hugging his friend close.

'What even happened here?' he asked. 'Who found him?'

'Me. I told Xisuma, Xisuma told you and Cub. Apparently he drowned. Or someone drowned him.'

'Another hermit?' Hypno's eyes narrowed. 'Murdered Jevin?'

'We don't know. Apparently Watchers are ruled out.'

'It's internal,' Xisuma joined in, not looking up. 'I've checked every defence, none of them have been tampered with or bypassed...'

'Shouldn't you ask Grian or Pearl to be safe?'

'I'd recognise a Watcher break-ins.'

'It took 2 Life Series to realise they were behind that.'

'But what Hermit would do something like this?' Hypno questioned, still hugging the mourning xB. 'Which hermit would... what would we even do if it was? How would we punish them?'

'Ban them.'

'Permabanned?'

Xisuma nodded.

'Even if it was an accident?' Hypno asked.

'No one could manage this by accident.'

'I've told Scar to come,' Cleo called, still sat with Cub.

'What?!'

'Cub needs better emotional support.'

'Then I'll tell the rest of the server too,' Xisuma decided, switching from his research to chat and sending a quick message. 'We need to figure out what happened, as soon as possible. And make sure it doesn't happen again.'

:)

Ngl, this is probably the fastest anyone's died in one of my books.
