New Day, Old Traditions

Sam Winchester

As I shuffled into the kitchen I smelled eggs, bacon, and a suspicious scent of pancakes? Dean never makes pancakes, they where Percy's favorite, so he never made them. I completely understood I didn't want them either. It was too much of a reminder of him.

I peeked into the door of the kitchen to see Dean flipping pancakes. When he saw me, he smirked slightly, "Rise and shine, Sammy." I frowned at his usual morning announcement.

"Dude, what is all of this?" I asked confused as I looked at Dean's wide spread of food. This was extremely out of the ordinary.

"Its called breakfast, Sammy," Dean replied sarcastically as he began dishing out the food onto the plates around him. At that moment I heard a noise behind me, I whipped around only to see a bed-ruffled Percy mid-stretch. His arms were raised above his head as he stretched, this caused his shirt to rise just over the top of his pants. Scars could be seen, I caught myself staring as he let out a loud sigh and dropped his arms.

"Hey, guys." Percy shuffled forward and placed himself in the seat next to me before he leaned onto the table in front of us. I was staring at him, this feeling of Deja vu was overwhelming. I kept having memory flashes of when Percy was six and he would wander into the kitchen when either Dean or I would be cooking.

It was early in the morning, John had woken Sam and Dean letting them know he was off on a hunt, and that they were to watch Percy. Dean nodded dutifully, he at this point was used to watching his younger brothers while their Dad went on a hunt. Sam wasn't quite as used to it, but he was happy to take on the challenge. Which is exactly what Percy was, He was a very energetic kid who loved his brothers a lot, but man could he get on their nerves real quick.

"Boys, do not leave this room and watch your brother. You know how he is, and especially how he always manages to find monsters." John breathed out, he was talking about one of the two times they left Percy alone. John and Sam were on a hunt, and when Dean got back he found the motel room trashed and Percy hiding in the closet with a butchers knife. Dean flipped the hell out understandable when Percy kept saying it was a huge dog with blood red eyes and gross patchy fur. The second Sam had been watching him and he stepped outside to get the two of them dinner when he heard crashing as he approached the motel room. Sam bolted into the room to see a horrifying shadow of a creature. All he can remember was that it had snakes for legs and it was hovering over Percy till Sam stabbed it with the silver knife. It only seemed to aggravate it before it jumped out the window. When John found out about these two times he made the rule Percy was not allowed to be alone.

"Yes, we understand," Sam said for the both of them, John nodded before he closed the door leaving them for a few days to fend on their own. Sam and Dean shared a look before Dean walked off only to begin making breakfast. As he was finishing the last pancake, Percy came in. He was sleeping in one of Dean's old shirts that Sam gave Percy. He was rubbing his eyes as he stumbled over to the stool next to them. They watched him as he dropped his head forward onto the table.

"Mornin' Perce, hungry?" Dean asked in a chipper voice, Percy nodded as he kept his head resting on his arm. Sam let out of chuckle before he slid the syrup bottle towards Percy. It hit him on the side of the face which made him slowly sit up. Dean gave him his plate. Both boys watched their younger brother as he sleepily ate his breakfast. They couldn't help but smile, seeing as this was a side of their hyperactive brother that was rare to see.

Sam watched his now much bigger younger brother sat up when Dean slipped the plate in front of Percy's face. "Mornin' Perce, how'd you sleep?" Dean asked, seeming to be genuinely interested.

"Eh, same as usual," Percy mumbled as began forking pancakes into his mouth. Dean and I stared at Percy with confusion. He looked up at us before his eyes widened in recognition, "Crappy, I slept crappy. Demigods usually have nightmares, thankfully that was not the case. Annabeth wouldn't get her icy feet off me." Percy grumbled as he poured about half a bottle of syrup on his pancakes. I shared a look with Dean once more.

"Wait, you guys shared a bed?" I spoke up for us, Dean was smirking, I wasn't.

"Yeah?" Percy looked at us confused as he shoved a huge bite of pancake into his mouth. I frowned and couldn't help but think he eats like Dean.

"How old are you?" I asked, at this Percy rolled his eyes and ignored the question as Dean began to laugh.

"He's eighteen? Why?" we all turned around to see Annabeth, her curly blonde hair was messy, and she was obviously wearing one of Percy's shirts and a pair of shorts. She padded her way to the table and sat next to Dean who looked at her confused. She looked at him for about three seconds before her stormy eyes flipped to me. "Do you guys have coffee or orange juice?" She asked politely, I nodded and pointed at the coffee machine before adding.

"Yeah, there's the coffee, and the OJ is in the fridge and the cups are in that cabinet." I pointed to everything. She nodded before standing up, Percy stood up as well. I looked at Percy confused, I'm sure Dean did the same.

"Ready?" Annabeth asked him, a weird glint in her eye, Percy's signature smirk took over his features.

"Oh, of course, Wise girl." He looked at me, my eyes widened as both their eyes landed on me, "Say go."

I was very confused and was going to ask what was going on but Dean beat me to it, "GO!" Dean shouted, as quick as lightning they took off. Percy dashed for the coffee machine and began pouring a cup of coffee. While Annabeth ran for the fridge and was coolly running around as she poured a glass of Orange juice. The two ran back to the table and simultaneously sat down.

"DONE!" They both announced, I looked at Dean asking for answers, he wasn't on the same wavelength. No, he was staring at the two teenagers in a curious wonder.

"I win! Finally!" Percy yelled pumping his fist in the air.

"No! I won!" Annabeth snapped back.

Percy looked at her, "No, I clearly won."

"No way, Seaweed brain. I did." an argument ensued. They were both standing and arguing over the table. I was worried while Dean seemed much more interested. Before they whipped around towards us and yelled.

"WHO WON?" we jumped at the sheer volume of their voices. Now that I was looking at them in the eyes, I could tell this was a game. It didn't matter who won, but it did. This was clearly normal for them, except we were the stand in's for whoever was the judge.

"It was a tie?" It came out more like a question. Both Percy and Annabeth raised an eyebrow to that.

"A tie? Really?" Annabeth said before she and Percy shared a long glance. He shrugged and sat back down. She did the same, which completely cleared the tension in the air. What struck me as the strangest part was they switched drinks. Percy handed Annabeth the coffee while she gave him the orange juice.

She took a sip before she mumbled, "You put to much cream."

"No, I didn't," Percy said without a beat in between, I caught Annabeth smirking as she and Percy went back to eating as if that didn't happen.

"What the hell was that?" I asked.

"I don't know but it was awesome." Dean smiled as his eyes drifted between us.

"It's our tradition, normally we do it at Paul's apartment in New York, but whenever we aren't at camp." Percy shrugged as if that explained it all. It did not, but I let it go.

"Whos Paul?" Dean asked Percy as he sat up a bit straighter in his chair, I did the same. Percy looked between us he seemed to be watching our body language, which would not be surprising.

"Paul is this guy, his wife could see through the mist. Which means he knows all about demigods and monsters, so Chiron worked it out that if anyone wanted to go to school but didn't have anywhere to stay they could stay with Paul. Mostly because Paul is a teacher at a school in the near area and he is a really cool guy." Percy continued to shove horrendous amounts of pancake in his mouth, and I felt sick just watching him. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Annabeth looking the same.

"Oh, so you like Paul? He's nice?" Dean tried to sound casual, it didn't. He sounded like he was investigating Percy, I knew why he was doing this. We were thinking about the guy we made Percy stay with while he was going to school in New York, Gabe something-or-other. He was a hunter who said he would take care of Percy while he was going to school there. He turned out to be a dirtbag who hurt kids and woman. Let's just say he is no longer around.

"Yeah, he is. I promise," Percy added, to which Annabeth gave him a strange look. He didn't make eye contact with her, instead, he took a large gulp of his OJ and went back to his plate. That was when Annabeth looked at me and Dean.

"Percy told me you guys now know all about our lives, so, what happened to you guys? How did you meet Percy, and where? Also what happened with your Dad?" Percy choked on his food and looked up at Annabeth's shock. I looked at Dean with an amused but surprised face. Dean stared at Annabeth but I was watching Percy. He looked uncomfortable, he kept fidgeting and messing with his fingers.

I scowled at Percy's body language, but I looked back to Dean who chuckled at the question. "Whoa, Percy did you not tell her about us?"

"I did, but I didn't want to talk about most of it. Besides does it really matter?" The last part was directed at Annabeth.

"Yes." Annabeth and Dean said in unison, they gave each other a strange look before turning back on Percy. Who groaned and dropped his head to the table.

"Why? They are just going tell embarrassing stories about me." Percy grumbled into his arm.

"That's what I want, you've heard my dad tell stories about me! So why can't I know any of yours?" Annabeth argued, Percy glared at her almost playfully.

"Because, Wise girl, I did some really embarrassing things," Percy mumbled in his arm, Dean spoke up.

"Alright, so the night we got Percy-..." I knew that Dean was about to go on a ramble, and I was kind of excited. It had been so long since we've talked about that night. I smiled as I watched Percy once again drop his head onto the table, while Annabeth excitedly turned to Dean to listen.
