Chapter One

ALL TRIGGERS: TW

Cer kicked her sneaker up on her bed's headboard, annoyed. She pressed the phone to her face, waiting anxiously for her friend to answer.
"Kaya, where the hell were you?", Cer yelled into the phone.
"I was with Elijah...", Kaya's voice whispered on the other line.
"Of course..", Cer sighed and ran her fingers through her head, "Tell me, Kaya, do you even want to be friends anymore?"
      Kaya stayed silent..

"Wow..", Cer laughed, "Okay, have a nice life, bitch."
"I-...", Kaya said before Cer hung up.
Cer jumped up and tied her shoes, making her way to the bathroom. She leaned over the sink and stared at herself, almost in a panic.
A loud noise snapped her from her trance. Shouts and voices came from the kitchen.

Cer cautiously reached for the door knob, "Dad...?"
She flew the door open and bolts to the kitchen.
"DAD!", She screams, seeing her Dad's limp body lying across the island. Everything is in a chaos, a mess.
Cer dropped to her knees, immediately beginning C.P.R. on her father and scrambling to call the police.
"Help will be on the way.", The operator comforted Cer. Cer continued with the C.P.R. until she heard sirens coming into the driveway. EMT's took over the care of her father, while Cer watched fearfully from the sidelines.
Suddenly, her mother's car rolled up and she dropped to the floor at the sight of her husband.
Cer wrapped her arms around her Mom's shoulders and sunk to the floor with her.
A wave of realization washed over Cer's face as she watched the EMT's cover up her father with a blanket.
He was gone...

Her mom gasped and cupped her hands around her mouth, tears flooding from her eyes. Cer's eyes darted everywhere, overwhelmed. He was just here...and now he's gone. He was just alive and now he's-...

Cer let out a scream in pain and began shaking with sobs.
"C.C..", Her mom stood up, trying to regain her composure depsite the recent tragedy.
"Mom..", Cer glanced up at her mother, tears blurring her vision.
"Pack your bags...", Her mom choked on her words and quickly disappeared into her bedroom.
"So many questions, so little answers", Cer thought to herself. The chief police officer came up and rested a hand on her shoulder.
"Honey..we believe it was a suicide...I'm sorry..", He whispered, an arm around Cer.
"But-..", Cer hyperventilated, "But that doesn't make sense! WHY IN THE HELL WOULD HE TRASH THE HOUSE AND WHY WAS THERE SCREAMING?"
"We think he was trying to save himself, and was panicking that he was actually going through with it."
"No...no..no...no...no..", Cer held her head, "He-..NO!", Cer began punching at the officer.
"It's going to be okay, kiddo...just get away from it all, I hear your mom is moving you all to South America...that should be fun.", He said in an effort to comfort her.
Cer looked up at him with a disgusted look and left in disbelief to her room.
Cer looked around her bedroom, all the things that reminded her of him..
She reached out and picked up the clay heart her Dad made with her name imprinted on it.
She stared at the message on the bottom, "Cer: Meaning Love. Because I will always love you, C.C.  Happy 11th birthday, C.C."

Six years of staring at that heart never hit as hard as it did right then...
Cer collasped on her bed and sobbed, her chest wheezing with every breath. She traced the words on the heart with her finger, but it all began to feel fake. If he loved her...

Thoughts..horrible thoughts...pounded in Cer's head. She threw the heart at her mirror, shattering both the mirror and the heart. It might as well had been her physical heart because that was how she felt. Broken. The pieces of her scattered like seeds in a garden.
A soft knock on her door faded reality back into Cer's head.
"It's time to leave..", Her mom said, quietly, not making eye contact with Cer.
"Mom...explain to me what the hell is going on...", Cer threw her hands up, the sadness manifesting as anger.
Her mom was shocked at the word usage, but was too drained.
"Cer...it's for the best. Just bring only what you need and a few special things.", Her mom spun on her heels to leave, but Cer grabbed her wrist.
"What's going on..", Cer asked with a pleading look.
"Stop questioning me.", She gritted her teeth at Cer.
Cer backed up. Why...why was she not explaining anything? Cer wasn't a kid anymore. She was seventeen. She had a right to know.

Cer threw her bags aside, "MOM!"
She ignored her daughter, and continued loading the bags into the car.
"Just get into the car, Cer."
Cer shut her mouth and slung a duffel bag over shoulder, sliding into the seat. She stared at her phone screen, wondering if she should message Kaya goodbye..

"She's probably busy making out with Elijah..", Cer mumbled to herself as her mom began driving to the airport....

TWO DAYS LATER...

Cer rubbed her eyes...."Cer, we're here.."
Cer looked out the window at a blue and white house with trash and graffiti scattered all around.
"Uh-...", Cer eyed the graffiti, "I don't think I will be making friends with...KaLeB the RoCkEr..."
Her mom tossed her a dirty look, "It has potential."
"Yeah...maybe start with getting the graffiti cleaned off before the trash-..", Cer gestured to an interesting image graffitied on the door.
"I can start cleaning things up out here...how about you make sure things are okay inside? And make sure to close up the windows and lock the doors.", Her mom smiled.
"Is Peru THAT sketchy-??", Cer asked.
"No, I just want to keep you safe.", She smiled, a flash of panic in her eyes.
Cer raised an eyebrow and sighed, walking into the house.

W h o a...

The house was lavishly furnished and had almost a dreamy aura.
Cer blinked rapidly to see if what was before her was real.
The confusion swirled through her brain. The contrast of the interior and exterior....seemed planned??
Cer shook it off as her overthinking, which she did quite often.
She scanned the open living room. The windows had navy blue shutters, bolted tightly. There were several locks on every door, not just the main door but EVERY door. Even the bathroom..

    "Mom...but WHY?", Cer laughed.
"Safety, Cer.", Her mom peered inside, scrubbing away at the spray paint.
The whole situation made Cer feel numb. It was unreal, to say the least. Her dad died...two days later, she's moved to Peru..acting like nothing's happened...

Especially her mom...that was her HUSBAND. How is she over his death that easily? Cer tried to push a certain thought from her mind. It couldn't be...

Cer poked her head out the door, seeing her mom happily hum a song while cleaning up garbage...
     She couldn't have. Could she...?

Her mom glanced Cer's way, and Cer spun around, slamming her body into the white wall, her chest heaving.
"My Mom's a murderer...", Cer panicked, not knowing whether to run or hide.
Cer cautiously tip-toed out the back door, pulling out her phone.
"Kaya...pick up, pick up, please pick up.", Cer said to herself.
"Hey, you've reached ya girl Kaya! Leave a message at the beepity beep!", The voicemail said, "Unless your Cer. Then fuck off."
Cer screamed, throwing her phone into the bushes. She immediately slapped her hands to her mouth.

Her mom came around the side of the house, "CER! GET INSIDE!"
Cer glared, "THEN TELL ME WHATS GOING ON??!?! WHY DID YOU MURDER DAD???!?!"

Her mom dropped the garbage bags she was holding, "Excuse me?"
Cer glared at her mom, her breaths shallow and heavy.
"Honey...", Her mom's expression softened, but stayed as firm.
"I didn't murder your dad, Cer. You heard the police..", She tugged at a hangnail on her thumb, "He was secretly not doing very well and decided it would be better this way.."
Cer studied her face. She seemed genuine..
"Okay...I'm sorry for doubting you..", Cer sat on the steps, feeling ashamed and disappointed and disgusted with herself for thinking for a moment that her mom could possibly be capable of such a thing.
"I-...I'm so sorry...", Cer said, her face blank, her body shivering despite not being cold.
Her mom gripped her shoulder, "Baby, it's okay..it's okay..it's just a lot. That's all. I know you didn't mean it."
"Yeah if anything you should be the one questioning ME...I was there and all..", Cer said, her thoughts racing a mile a minute.
Her mom bit her lip anxiously, "Well, I know that you aren't capable of such monstrosity and that the police are right. If I look back now, its clear if you think deep enough, that your father was very disturbed and unhappy. It...sucks..that neither of us could see that when he was alive, but at least we can rest assured he's much happier now than he was.."

"You don't know that...", Cer's voice cracked. Emotions were coming back to her like a train, hitting her all at once. There was no release. All these overwhelming emotions and situations she was being thrown into...out of nowhere. What HAPPENED?!?!?! Four days ago, she was your average teen girl. Drama, boys, and friends.
Her entire WORLD and priorites were spun upside down in the matter of 72 hours..

Tears waterfalled...there was no being strong...there was no hiding her feelings...
She sobbed...Cer sobbed...

Her mom stood there awkwardly, unsure whether she should make for a hug to her daughter or leave her alone to sort through her head.

"Go.", Cer croaked out in between sobs.
"Cer....are you sure?", She went in for a squeeze to Cer, but Cer cringed at her touch.
"YES IM SURE JUST LEAVE ME THE HELL ALONE!", Cer threw her hands to her ears, trying to block out the world. The pain. The debilitating noise. Everything.

"Well, god, I'm sorry I ever tried to fucking help, Cer.", Her mom shook her head at her daughter.
Cer ignored her mother's comments and continued shaking with tears...

"CER!!!!!HELP!!!!"
