In the morning light
Ruby sat on the balcony of the room that John Carter there client had given them for the night. It was about 1 in the morning and she was finally ready for bed after a hot shower. Sting and Rogue were inside still getting ready. Ruby looked behind her and saw a shirtless Sting getting into bed, being careful not to wake Lector who was sleeping peacefully on his pillow. Frosch was sat on Rogue's bed waiting for him to get in and go to sleep. Rogue looked outside and saw Ruby sat on the railing, she gave him a small smile before she turned back around and looked up at the full silver moon.
"Frosch you start going to sleep, I'll be there in a minute."
"Okay." Said Frosch as he curled up and fell asleep. Ruby listened as Rogue approached. Rogue looked Ruby up and down, she was wearing a pair of black pyjama bottoms and a dark red vest top that clung to her figure. He blushed at the sight of her, she would get cold if she stayed like that. Without much of a second thought he took off his long black coat and he draped it over her shoulders. Ruby looked at him with wide eyes.
"You'll catch a cold if you stay out in the cold wearing only that." He said. Ruby could smell Rogue's scent on the coat, it was still warm from his body heat. It was comforting for her. She wrapped it tighter around herself.
"Thank you." She said looking back up at the moon.
"Ruby we both should really be going to bed. We're meant to be getting up in a few hours."
"I know but I'm not all that tired. Besides the sun is just about to rise." She said as a glimmer of golden light appeared from the horizon.
"Would you like me to stay and keep you company?"
"Only if you want to. If your tired then go to bed, I won't mind." Rogue didn't want to go to bed though. Ruby looked beautiful in the light of the new day. Her white hair was gleaming as the rays of sunlight bounced off the water droplets still in her hair after she washed it not so long ago. Rogue placed his hands on the railing and moved a little closer to her.
"I'll stay." He said and Ruby smiled to herself. In truth she had wanted him to stay all along.
"Hey Rogue...what was your Father's name?"
"Skiadrum."
"He was a shadow dragon right?"
"Yeah."
"So...is what you told me earlier true?"
"It is. Both mine and Sting's parents got gravely ill and asked us to assist them in death to relieve them of their pain. They told us that by killing a dragon we would become true dragon slayers and we would become stronger because of it."
"And did it work? Did you become stronger?"
"Hard to say really. Sting likes to use the whole 'we've killed real dragon' thing to scare our enemies. To make people fear the Sabertooth guild. That's the thing about our guild, it's not like the others. We're the Master's soldiers. We do his bidding weather we like it or not. There is no sense of friendship, or the idea that your fellow guild members are your comrades."
"Do you want there to be?"
"I guess so...but it's not like the guild will chance and I can't leave because I have nowhere else to go. The guild provides me with a home. Plus I'm used to living in a guild hall. After Skiadrum died I began to live in a guild hall, a different one from Sabertooth. It was called Phantom Lord, a guild that is now disbanded. There was a man there called Gajeel Redfox, he was a first generation iron dragon slayer. I was his apprentice and I looked up to him but then Phantom Lord went to war with another guild called Fairy Tail and they lost. Phantom Lord was disbanded by the magic council after that. Gajeel vanished for a while and then I found out that he joined Fairy Tail, the very guild that destroyed his previous one. Even now I don't get why he did it but I have always wanted to surpass him. Then he vanished on Tenrou island 6 years ago."
"I see...I never knew any of that. Actually I don't know much about any of you."
"I myself can't tell you much about Sting. I know that we both have a desire to accomplish a goal that we no longer can. He wishes to surpass Natsu, another first generation dragon slayer and a member of Fairy Tail but like Gajeel he vanished on Tenrou island 6 years ago."
"You guys haven't had it easy. I mean I was lucky enough to have a loving Mother to look after me until I was 11, even after that I found Jacob who looked after me. Perhaps I have been a little selfish, not even stopping to ask about you guys. Just focusing only on my goal."
"You haven't been selfish at all Ruby. We wanted to help you and no one can blame you for simply wanting to find your missing Mother as quickly as possible. Anyone would do the same. It doesn't make you a selfish person it just means you care deeply about her." Ruby smiled at Rogue.
"Thanks Rogue." Ruby got off the railing and took off Rogues coat handed it back to him. "Thanks for everything." She began to walk off but Rogue grabbed her wrist and pulled her back. He couldn't take it anymore and he pressed his lips against hers. Ruby was shocked at first but soon felt herself melting into his arms. Ruby wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him back. He placed his hands on her waist and pulled her closer. Rogue felt electricity shoot through his body and Ruby shivered with excitement. The two pulled away panting hard and looking into each other's eyes. The morning sun lighting everything up in a soft glow. Ruby didn't know what to say or what to think. Her feelings were clear, she did love Rogue but was she betraying Jacob? Then she thought back to want the woman in the dress shop had said to her, maybe it was time to move on. Ruby rested her head on Rogue's shoulder and buried her face in his neck while he heard her tightly. Yeah, Ruby thought, it's time I moved on.
