A dance with Rogue

Ruby stood in the ball room looking around at all the people in front of her. Rogue stood beside her and Sting and the cats were closer to the daughter. She was very beautiful for a young girl. She had long jet black hair and bright blue eyes and dressed in a deep blue dress. To her right stood her twin brother. He was a male version of the girl but his eyes were framed with thick black glasses. He stood up tall and looked down on the guests below like he was so much better than everyone else. At the base of the stairs Ruby could see a familiar blond haired guy looking not to happy to be there. Rogue was stood beside her acting as her date which had caused some trouble between the two but eventually Rogue won which Ruby was more than happy about. The two weren't doing much as they were waiting for the arrival of the eldest son.

"He is late." Said Rogue. "Pretty strange for the son to be late to his Fathers party don't you think?"

"You would think that he would be here before all the guests but I guess not." Said Ruby.

"So when he gets here what are you going to do?"

"Dance and flirt which I have no idea how to do. I'll try and see what information I can get from him. If any."

"Well it seems like we will be waiting a while. So would you do me the honours of dancing with me?"

"Rogue I know that we are at a ball but we are on a job. A job to protect the daughter of our client we can't afford to get distracted from that task."

"I should have known you wouldn't want to." Rogues said quietly.

"I never said that." Said Ruby before she could stop herself.

"What?"

"I never said that I didn't want to dance with you. I just said it was inappropriate at this time."

"So you want to?"

"I never said that either." She said.

"Okay then if Sting were to ask you the same..."

"Absolutely not." Ruby cut him off.

"So Sting got a flat out no and I got a maybe. Glad to see I'm the favourite." Ruby's cheeks became flushed.

"I do not have a favourite out of the two of you."

"Of course you don't, but I really think that we should dance." Ruby sighed.

"Why is that?"

"We are meant to be undercover as guests here and what guests would stand at the edge of the dance floor like this. Not to mention that we are getting some rather strange looks from the people around us." Ruby looked around and saw that Rogue was right. She looked at the piece of floor in the front of her.

"But won't you get motion sickness?"

"I should be okay if we go slowly. Not to many turns but anyway if I get the chance to dance with you then it is well worth the risk." He held out his hand out in front of her to take. Ruby blushes like crazy but eventually took his hand and the two walked onto the dance floor. Rouge guided her to the middle of the floor and placing a gently hand on her waist he pulled her close. Ruby put her right hand on his shoulder and the left just below his right shoulder on her arm. Rouge gently swayed with her pushing her hips from side to side. Ruby's heart was beating hard so hard in her chest she thought she might explode. She hadn't felt this way in a very long time.

"You know out of all the people here I think that you are the most beautiful." He whispered into her ear. Ruby's face exploded into a bright red colour and she was thankful that her face was buried into his chest so that he couldn't see her blushing.

"Th-thank you."

"I've never heard you stutter like that before." Rogues said as he moved his right hand up her back pulling her even closer.

"No one has been this flattering other than...than Jacob."

"You really loved that guy huh?"

"Yeah I did."

"Tell me how did you guys meet?"

"After I left home when I was 11, I was wondering around, not really knowing where to go. I was in a town one night when I was surrounded by large men that wanted to do awful things to me but I used my magic to knock them all out. That was when Jacob stepped out of the shadows. He told me he was going to step in to save me but I had done all the work for him. He asked me what I was going wondering by the streets by myself and when I told him that I had no where to go. He told me to join the club and we travelled around together after that. He had been kicked out of his house by his Dad. His Mum was dead and his Dad was the one that implanted the dragon lacrima in him but then he just threw out his own son and Jacob never knew why. Then two years ago I went back home to visit my Mum and she was gone. He was there at the time I found out and he told me that he would help find her. Then last year...last year we both came across a corrupt forest Phoenix and Jacob decided to help me slay it, but it was stronger than I expected and caught me off guard. I broke my leg in the landing and couldn't move due to the pain, the phoenix tried to deliver the finishing blow when...when Jacob protected me from the shot with his body."

"So that's why you are so against us helping you?"

"Yes, people that have tried to help me solve this case before have died and I just don't want that to happen again."

"Jacob's death...it's still painfully for you isn't it?"

"Yes but that pain is slowly easing. It has been ever since I joined Sabertooth. I guess I have just chosen to ignore it for a long time." Rouge pulled back and lifted Ruby's head up with his right hand and looked into her red eyes. She looked up at him expectantly unsure of what to do.

"So say on the off chance that you got the chance to have another relationship with someone...would you take it?"

"It solely depends on how that person is." Ruby said with a small smile. Rogue slowly leaned down, angling his head so his lips could meet hers. Ruby moved her right and onto the base of his neck. Her breathing became heavier. Was she ready for this? She looked at Rogue. Yes, yes she was because this was Rogue.

"Excuse me." Said a male voice from behind them. They both pulled away from each other and turned to face the one who had interrupted them. It was the oldest son of the client, Robert. "I was wondering if I could steal the young lady from you?.."
