Prolouge
Catchy dropped from the roof, landing easily on her now rough paws.
Her tounge slipped out and began to clean her bleeding wrist as she kept an eye out.
She hated this new life style, really got her fur matted and dirty. Disgusting.
A snarl sounded around behind her, the sound of a animal.
Cathy froze, eyes wide. She had not seen another animal, alive that is, in almost 29 years! (Cat age, e.g. 3 human years. 1 human year is 15 years and every new year is another 10 or less. Depends on the cat.)
She slowly turned, spotting a mangy Doberman with her pup. The dog was on her last legs, looking like shs had been bitten three hundred times as her pup hid behind her leg with wide eyes.
"Back off, feral." The Doberman snapped, trying to stand as her eyes flickered between the ill humans that were around and the natural brown.
Cathy could see the pup shaking, scared by what its mother was becoming and by Cathy. It made Cathy feel bad.
She turned to face the Doberman and looked at the pup, mulling over something. As a fellow (previous) mother, she knew what it was like to look after a child when you knew you couldn't truly protect and raise them.
"Your pup..." Cathy muttered. The Doberman crouched into a hunting stance, snarling.
"You won't touch him!" She snapped, baring her already rotting gums. Her teeth had all but fallen out.
"I could look after him. He seems young, so do you." Cathy whispered, keeping an eye out.
10 metres away was a ill human, heading for them in a cruel limp. Its head was on its right shoulder as the jaw was dangling from its skull in a few threads of skin. The Doberman saw it aswell.
Cathy could see the doubt in her eyes as the Doberman thought about it. This world was not as it was, ill humans and animals feasting on everything that had a heart beat. Not to mention if any creature was killed in any place but the brain then they became ill aswell.
The Doberman finally looked at Cathy, the ill human now 10 metres. The Doberman was panicking now, eyes wide. She did not want her pup to become food.
"Please, please protect him!" The Doberman mother yelped, shoving her pup to Cathy.
The Doberman then ran for the ill human, ready to attack for Cathy to have time.
The pup was shaking, eyes wide as Cathy launched for him. Cathy bit gently into his scruff and bolted into a open car, under the seat and began to clean the pups head.
"It is alright. Your mom will be safe." She whispered as she curled around the whining pup, blocking any sounds that followed the Doberman's sacrifice.
