Heartbroken Sugar High

Madelina got a text from Roxanne.

"Hey, there, Maddy

I need some help putting up the Halloween decorations for the party

Can you help me out? (puppy-dog eyes emoji)"

Her hand trembled as she held the phone.

There's no way this isn't a trap! Of course, there's no way she knows about Daisy's gift to me.

Madelina took a sip of the elixir. Inky wanted some, too.

"Did planty tell you how long this fucking thing works for?"

"No, but I think it's safe to assume it gives you eternal immunity."

Inky greedily chugged the entire thing down.

Madelina gave him a stern look. "What? I'm just trying to protect myself! You know how fucking crazy people can be!"

There was no way Madelina was going to see Roxanne without Sommerset by her side.

Roxanne greeted Madelina on the porch of her house and lead her inside. She wore a sweater that had a print of a haunted house on it. Sommerset had to sit on the porch, but he remained vigilant.

Roxanne wasn't lying, there was lots of Halloween decorations to put up. But there was no way she could look at her. Not when she knew that she was more than happy to drug her.

"Hey, Madelina? You want a drink?"

"I think we both know what that bitch really means." Said Inky.

Madelina recited a prayer, even though she was as religious as a snail.

Roxanne poured 2 cups of a hot pink liquid that smelled like chocolate and pine needles. Even if Madelina didn't know that Roxanne was going to drug her, she would've been suspicious of the concoction.

"Ask her what it is. I'd love to her try and cover this shit up."

Madelina held back a chuckle.

"What sort of drink is this, Roxanne?"

Roxanne remained calm.

"Pink Iced Tea."

Inky cackled in wicked glee, and Madelina was tempted to laugh alongside him.

The strange potion tasted delicious, in a strange, otherworldly way.

"How are you feeling?" Roxanne asked.

Inky suggested to play along for the time. "Just imagine pulling the rug from under her in the end. It will be worth it."

Madelina was unsure, but she followed his advice.

"I'm OK. You look beautiful today, though."

Roxanne clasped her hands together "Oh, thank you!"

Madelina sipped more of the drink. Roxanne stared at her in wonder, thinking that the potion was working.

"So, Maddy, what do you think of me?" Roxanne's tone of voice had a trace of fear in it.

Pull the rug from under this crazy bitch!

"Do you want the truth?"

Roxanne nodded.

"I fear you. Greatly."

Roxanne felt as if her world was crumbling beneath her.

"How...what?"

"Your potion has no effect on me. Goodbye, Roxanne."

Roxanne stared in stunned silence as Madelina smirked and walked out the door.
