Ode to A Flame

A loud ringing filled the air, burning itself into the eardrums of those it afflicted while the other senses recovered. First came a smell. The smell of flame, of burning, of destruction wrought by fiery means. Next came the taste of ash and iron, the cocktail of taste singing onto the tastebuds with a force that finally brought back the sense of sight. A large building was set ablaze, many of its windows shattered outward and its roof caving in on itself. The ringing finally subsided long enough to hear sirens in the distance followed by the sound of a woman speaking over an intercom system. the front doorway collapsed and the burning only seemed to grow stronger. The citizens of the city began to crowd around the building, emergency services hastily setting up barricades to deter them as they awaited the proper forces to arrive. However, the warmth of the building couldn't combat the chill that ran down the spines of the gathered city-goers as a shrill screech filled the air from inside the building.

???: I... I can't see...

A tired voice filled in the spaces between the crackle of flame. The voice belonged to a male, his tone filled with exhaustion and frustration. The voice reverberated off the metal of the building making his voice ring out softly for those outsides through the shattered windows

???: We got a survivor!

???: Secure the area! The infernal is still active!

The voice seemingly originated from a metal door. which now was glowing a dark orange from its original blue color. Finally, the hinges of the door melted clean through before the door were tossed easily into the concrete wall across from it. Smoke flooded from the top of the rough, a hacking cough filling the corridor as a glowing hand gripped the side of the doorway. The hand seemed to crunch the doorway softly before retracting and an (S/c) colored hand griped just below the handprint left by the other, revealing a metallic ring around it with a dangling melted chain. The figure pulled himself through the doorway to find his situation even worse than before. His flesh was coated in sweat and he seemed exhausted, his form barely standing. On each wrist was one of these rings, and he raised one of his hands to wipe back his drenched (H/c) locks.

???: Where are you?!

???: Call out if you can hear us!

???: The infernal is on the third floor!

The emergency crews outside didn't seem to be doing anything though they were quite capable of being loud. They must be waiting for something... or someone. The sirens in the distance were much louder now. The figure felt a bit of panic seep into his (e/c) eyes as he began trudging in the opposite direction of the sirens, stabilizing his body with the concrete walls to his left and right. The roof seemed to be melting under the weight of something and the male lifted his eyes, feeling his gaze sharpen as he could see footprints coming through the thinner material used for the floors of this place. Maybe he wasn't quite done yet. The male stepped onto a toppled filing cabinet and continued down the corridor until he came upon a semi-stable set of stairs and continued on his new objective.

An armor-plated vehicle finally arrived on the scene, mere seconds after the event took place as the doors opened and figures wearing heavy-duty fire protection gear with seemingly glowing blue stripes exited in front of the building. Another window on the third floor shattered and the fire licked through the window frame long enough to light up the yellow eight imprinted into the metal plating.

???: The police station?

???: The infernal must have been inside at the time and the sudden combustion set the whole floor ablaze

???: Alright, our first objective is to make sure all survivors have made it out, then we can take out the infernal! The building is highly unstable right now so make sure to be safe, we don't want to get cut off in there. Sister? Make sure you are ready to give the prayer.

???: Of course.

???: Alright let's move in-

The male speaking was cut off from a loud bang followed by a door flying off the roof. The male in question quickly jumped into action, somehow using immense strength o catch the door before it could reach the crowd of gathered people. Another male in the group spoke next.

???: the situation is rapidly deteriorating, we need to hurry.

???: Of course.

The male casually tossed the door away before taking the first steps toward the burning station.

???: 8th, move out!

Another screech rang out into the darkened sky of Tokyo, clouds forming as a burning humanoid creature left burning footprints on the roof that had yet to cave in due to low structure stability. The entire right side of the creature was burning through the left side of it glowed faintly. Its head was a burning flame as well, fire crackling where its jaw should be though the creature had one feature that sort of looked like an eye. It let out another screech as it reached the edge of the building, looking down on the crowd. The people started to panic, some running from the scene while the braver ones waited to see the 8th in action.

???: Oi.

The infernal turned and glanced behind it, seeing a tired-looking male. The creature let out a guttural howl as it turned full to the male.

???: I don't care how anyone... hah else sees me. But I won't let you run off and hurt anyone else.

The infernal grew tired of the conversation and charged forward, its heavy footfalls further disrupting the structure of the roof as the male simply lifted his hands, taking a subtle breath. before opening his eyes, letting a glow fill them. The nearby fire baring its teeth through the collapsed part of the roof was yanked from its maw, circling around the male before a fireball was shot forth into the infernal's face. It seemingly only add fuel to the fire of the infernal before the creature was stopped dead in its place.

???: I'm doing you a favor.

The male began to walk forward, a drop of rain falling on his shoulder before more started to fall.

???: I'm... not a sister or a priest of whatever but... hopefully wherever you go after this, you want to cause anyone else any harm.

The creature let out a gargled snarl, the area where its throat should be constricting. The (H/c) male lifted a hand once more and drew it back, letting the flame pulling from the infernal itself form a glowing fist. The fist copied the male's hand, drawing back before he cast it forward, digging into the infernals chest and clean through its back. The infernal was oddly silent as its head reclined back before it began to crumble, the hole in its chest disintegrating the body before the creature crumbled to dust. The male took a few more steps forward, his figure standing just before the piled ashes as he watched the rain began to wash them away. The male lifted his boot and shifted through the ashes, pondering quietly. Footsteps filled the silence where the fire lacked the strength to crackle.

Witch Girl: Who are you?

A female questioned softly as the male took a moment to look up at the sky.

???: Am I a bad person?

The male questioned softly before turning back toward the doorway, finding his vision filled with three individuals, a girl dressed as a sister, a female firefighter with a witch hat, and a taller male with glasses. The glasses-wearing male glared at the other male softly, clearly concealing something as the two females simply examined the strange male. The one in the witch hat spoke.

Witch Girl: What are you talking about?

The male lifted his hands, glancing at the cuffs.

???: I was taken in but I killed and infernal, am I a bad person?

Witch Girl: You're not making sense.

The sister took a moment to speak up, her breathing mask fogging up slightly.

Sister: This roof isn't stable, please come toward us so we can get you out of here.

The male took a moment to raise his hands to either side of his head, in a mock surrender motion.

???: Answer my question. You witch girl or sister, I don't want to talk to the angry guy. Do I look like a bad person?

The shorter sister took a gentle step forward, her eyes meeting with the males.

Sister: I don't think you're a bad person. But please... please come toward us so we can get you out of here.

The male felt his eyes widen softly at the answers before letting his arms drop slowly. He truthfully didn't expect that answer. He glanced at the cuffs around his wrists before begin to slide his feet carefully across the roof.

???: No one has ever said that before. I'm used to being the bad guy right from the start... You fire fighting people seem-

The male was cut off as the roof creaked, the material groaning as the fire inside seemingly ate away at the supports. The roof before the male cracked apart, cleaving the roof in two.

Witch Girl: Can you jump across?! I'll catch you!

The male took a moment to think over his situation. He needed to jump. He had to jump. He had no plans to die in some dank police station.

Sister: B-Be careful!

More steps could be heard on the step though the exact number was unknown. The tried man stretched out his hand before feeling another crack.

???: I... I don't... what are your names?

Sister: Eh? Just hurry and jump!

The angry male behind the girls took a moment to take a step forward before the man opposite them barked out.

???: Don't move! Tell me your names.

The witch girl seemed to ponder his request, stretching her hand out toward him before speaking. Her violet eyes meeting his (E/c) ones. He could see how determined she was to get him out safely, though all she could see was a slight fear and nervous glance behind the cold gaze.

Maki: Maki Oze. Now come on an-

The man didn't get to continue as that ceiling finally gave way and began to collapse, the male's footing slipping as the ground shattered before he began a free fall into the fiery floor below. The girl now revealed as Maki jumped forward as much as she could go, her ankles being held by the male as her gloved hand outstretched. The male could feel the moment he lost, his fingers grazing the glove before gravity took hold of him out of his frozen moment and pulled him into the fiery depths...
