Chapter 46 | packing
Here Adrien was, back in his bedroom. Well, it was his old bedroom now. They'd officially started the moving process, and had to pack things up.
All the legal procedures were going smoothly, a date was set for Gabriel's trail. The divorce between his mother and father was finalised, and the Agreste mansion was up for sale since there was no way Gabriel would be getting out of prison for what he's done. Anything that as his was going to be auctioned off, and the new owners of the house could renovate it as they liked.
Adrien just had to go through all his stuff and decide what he wanted to keep and what he wanted to donate. The adults were all downstairs helping move things like couches and TV's into the trucks, and Adrien was with Luka going through all his stuff in his old room.
"It'll be kind of weird not having a room this big anymore, but after everything that happened I don't think I could ever sleep here again" Adrien said, digging through the storage shelves.
"Cosy rooms are more comfortable anyway, they feel less lonely" Luka commented.
"Yeah you're right. I already have ideas for how to set up my room, I wanna have a hanging chair or maybe a hammock by the window"
"That'll be a good reading spot"
Adrien held up some old sports equipment he hadn't used in years and tossed it into the donate box. He decided he'd keep fencing, but not competitively. He'd keep playing piano but only in the band with Luka. He was going to quit basketball, only play it for fun with friends. And as long as he spoke Chinese relatively often he could quit that too and not loose the skill.
"How long has that been in here?" Luka asked, pulling out a kids race car track toy set.
"Oh god, probably a decade" Adrien replied.
"Donate?"
"Yeah, no use for kids toys at 16. Well... maybe I'll keep some sentimental ones"
The donate box was getting pretty full, mainly it was stuff he'd outgrown or didn't use anymore. All his clothes he was keeping were already packed up and the closet was empty now, all the books was keeping were stacked in three big boxes by the door ready to go. Half the furniture was gone, his desk and computer setup, bed and TV were all gone and in the trucks already. All he had left was to go through the shelves and storage closets and take things off the walls.
"I'll line this box with bubble wrap and all the fragile stuff can go in here" Luka said.
"Thanks, all the framed photos can go in there. And my trophies" Adrien replied.
Down to the last shelf, he pulled out the storage container that sat on it and opened it up to see what was inside.
"Oh my god! This must be as old as I am!" He said.
Luka looked over and saw the box was full of baby supplies. All stuff from when Adrien was born. Adrien began to dig through it, there was no way he could get rid of any of this, his mum would kill him. There were baby blankets, onesies only his forearm would fit in now, a mobile and a scrapbook.
"Hm? I don't think I've seen this before" he muttered, taking out the scrapbook.
He opened it and read the writing on the first page, he could tell it was his mothers.
Tomorrow, I am due to have my baby boy.
I can't wait, this is everything I've ever wanted, for years I've tried and tried, cried myself to sleep after another negative test. But finally, he's almost here. My miracle child, Adrien.
I'm going to document his first year of life in this book. His first words, his first steps, his first everything. I can't wait to meet you Adrien.
Love, mum. Xxx
A smile broke on his lips, he always knew his mum loved him. But this just made him feel so special, it proved to him that she loved him so dearly, more than anyone else. Turning the page he was met with the first ever photo of him, as well as his tiny hospital bracelet glued in next to it. He was so small, wrapped up in a blanket with little teddies on it, sound asleep against his mothers chest. The border of the page decorated with hearts and a note from his mother.
Welcome to the world little one.
The page next to it has his tiny hand and footprints on green paint, he placed his hand over it and marvelled at how much he'd grown.
He turned the page, and seeing the photo made his heart soar. He must have only been a few days old, but he was wide awake and a bundle of joy. Wrapped up in a onesie with - you better believe it, cat eats on it. On one side of him was his mother, the other? Nathalie. They looked younger, and so happy. Nathalie's hair was a bit shorter and Emilie still had the post-brith tiredness in her eyes but smiled through it. All three of them smiled at the camera, like it was a family photo.
And it was, now Nathalie was officially part of the family. Adrien wanted to frame a copy of this and pretend Gabriel was never in the family to begin with, that he was Emile and NATHALIE'S child.
"Luka look at this" he said.
Luka carefully put the fragile frames in the box and walked over to take a look.
"Oh my god you're so TINY! You're so cute, look at that big smile!" He cooed.
"And the cat ears? It's like I was destined to be cat noir all along" Adrien replied.
They both read the passage written next to the picture, their hearts warmed.
Nathalie has been there every step of the way. From the moment I began trying for a baby to the moment he was born. And I know she'll be there every step forward. Adrien loves her, he laughs and smiles whenever he sees her, he thinks her glasses are a fun toy and tries to grab them off her face. It's so cute, I adore both of them to the moon and back.
"Looks like Nathalie has always really been your second mum, even though you're not blood related" Luka said.
"They look so happy, as much as I wish they'd been together from the start I'm just glad to see that even before I was born they were as close as they are now" Adrien replied.
He flipped the page and a little card was stuck into it, it had a place for the date and a photo and underneath it was a tile: my first word.
What was his first word? Mama. No surprises there.
"You've always been such a mamas boy" Luka snickered.
"Are we really surprised though?" Adrien replied.
They kept flipping through the pages and looking at all the pictures. His first time standing up and walking, his first time meeting his family members, his first drawing was glued in as well. It was just some scribbles as you'd expect from a kid, but it still made him smile that his mum kept it. And the last page was of his first birthday, where he sat in a high chair covered in chocolate cake with a party hat that was too big for him on his head.
"You were such a smiley baby, no wonder you ended up a ray of sunshine" Luka complimented.
"That was cute, I'm glad mum made that. I gotta see all your baby pictures now" Adrien replied.
"I should dig them out. There's one of me and my sister at barely a year old with sunglasses too big for us on and trying to hold up a guitar too big for us"
"Oh my god that's so cute, I have to see the rock and roll babies"
He put the book back in the box and closed it up, pushing over by the door to pack into the truck. The last task was to empty the final shelf, which was mainly old DVDs and video games. Easy enough to sort through.
"Hey... I know we're only 16 and all but... if we ever get married in the future, you think we would have kids?" Luka asked.
"Well, we'd have to find alternatives. Neither of us have a womb" Adrien replied.
"Yeah, obviously. No one is birthing kids here. But adopting or surrogacy is a thing, I'm sure my sister would jump at the chance to surrogate when she's older"
Adrien pondered on it for a moment. They were only 16, they still had a long life ahead of them. They could change their minds at any time between now and then, but Adrien loved Luka so much he couldn't ever imagine breaking things off with him. Kids or no kids he'd be with Luka till they died.
"I wouldn't mind having a kid when I'm older. It'd be fun, hard work of course but worth it. Maybe a daughter, throw a girl into the gene pool. There's barely any in my family" Adrien said.
"Same, my sister is the only one in the whole generation. All my cousins are boys. I could have a daughter and break that all boy line up"
"It would then be very ironic if they grew up and ended up trans"
The two snickered, already talking about kids at age 16 and what they'd want. They were so head over heels for each other...
"Of course I'd be pleased with either. It'd just be nice to have a kid, when I'm like 30 or something. You'd be a good dad" Adrien said.
"You think so?" Luka asked.
"Of course! You're the most compassionate person I know, you'd be an amazing dad"
"So would you, I mean you were raised by two amazing mums you take after them"
It was a long, long time in the future. But they were glad to know that one day they might get to be as happy as Nathalie and Emilie smiling with their new baby for the camera.
