Chapter 4
The next day, Elena slammed her alarm off. Sitting up and stretching. She smiled and quickly got ready, grabbing her stuff and leaving.
She had an extra two hours, so she had decided to go to the hospital and visit the mother and her child. Elena walked into the building, the secretary looking up and seemed to have recognized the girl.
"Are you here to see the lady you saved yesterday?" The Secretary asked and Elena nodded.
"Good, she's been wanting to see you," The Secretary smiled.
"Cool," Elena said and the secretary typed something into her computer.
"Sixth floor, room two oh one," She said and Elena nodded, stopping by the gift shop and paid for two bouquets of flowers. She walked into the elevator and pressed the button, she pulled out her phone, Peter was calling. She declined it and saw a minute later that he left a voicemail.
Elena sighed and pressed a few buttons, she adjusted the flowers two sit in her one hand. She held the phone to her ear, Peters voice filling her head.
He sniffed and she frowned.
"Uhm, I'm sorry, and I understand that you don't want anything to do with me, I'm at your door with the spare key, I'll leave it on top of your things, but I'm sorry, and I know that it won't help, I wish things ended up differently, and I wish one day I hope you understand why things happened the way they did, thank you for the years of friendship," he said and the voicemail stopped.
Elena sighed and hung up, she never deleted the message, she never deleted his contact.
The door opened and she shoved the phone into her back pocket, walking to room 201.
Elena knocked on the door.
"Who is it?" The lady asked and Elena walked in.
"I'm the one that pulled you out of the car yesterday, um, I care to see how you and the baby were doing," Elena snails softly and the lady's face brightened up.
"Oh my god," she said and held her arms out, wanting to hug Elena.
Elena set the flowers down on a nearby counter and bent over and hugged the woman.
"Thank you so much, you don't know how much it means to me," she said and Elena smiled.
"It's no problem, ma'am, I think anyone would have done it," she said and the lady shook her head.
"People are selfish in crisis, you're a true hero, like, Spider-Mans sidekick," she said and Elena chuckled.
"That would be amazing, I can't even get an interview with the guy," she said and sat down in the chair next to the lady's bed.
"I'm Mindy, Mindy Bond," she smiled and Elena nodded.
"Elena, Elena Faulkner," she responded.
She looked over to see a little nursery bed with the baby hooked up to a machine.
"That's Elliot, my little survivor," Mindy said and Elena stood up, walking over to the baby and smiled as the baby looked over at her, it giggled and Elena held a finger out. Elliot grabbed it, shaking her finger out.
"He's this cutest thing I've ever seen," Elena smiled as it looked around.
Elena looked down to see the burn scar on its stomach.
"I'm sorry, I wish I had seen him earlier, the car was on fire when he woke up, I don't understand how he slept through the car being thrown," Elena sighed and looked to Mindy who had a sad smile on her face.
"Yes it's sad, but when he's older, he's going to look at the scar and think, a complete stranger has helped me, he's going to be apart of the future that saves lives, I can feel it," Mindy smiled and Elena smiled back.
She looked down at the baby and smiled.
Elena was looking down at the future.
A man walked in, his eyes were bloodshot and swollen, he was disheveled from head to scuffed up shoe.
His eyes were bloodshot as he looked at the baby, Mindy and Elena.
"Richard!" She cried out, opening her arms out again.
"Who is this?" He asked as he hugged her.
"This is the girl that saved Elliot and I," Mindy introduced Elena gave a small wave as her phone rang again.
"Thank you so much," he said and rushed over and hugged her. Elena hugged back, awkwardly. She wasn't used to this much praise and it alarmed her.
He pulled away and looked at Elliot who smiled when seeing Richard.
"Oh, my beautiful son," he fell to his knees and looked down at Elliot.
Elena smiled and sat down next to Mindy.
"How long are you and Elliot going to be in here?" Elena asked and Mindy looked up.
"I have to be here for two weeks, Elliot, one, I don't know how this is going to work, Richard needs to work so he can pay for the hospital bill and I can't keep Elliot here," she said and Elena looked up.
"When exactly is he being released?" Elena asked and she smiled, slowly catching on.
"Next week," she said and Elena nodded.
"If you guys don't have any problems, I'll babysit him, I'm free from school then, there's a break, it'll be free of charge, you guys need as much money as you can get right now," Elena suggested, "I know it's a lot to think about, so I can give you my number until you can make a decision."
Richard nodded and pulled out his phone, unlocking it and handing it to her, and new contact page on the screen.
Elena put in her number and smiled as she checked the time.
"Oh dear, I have to go, Happy Days," she waved and ran out.
She would've liked to see her self in slow motion, maybe it would've looked cool. But she needed to focus on the fact that if she kept this pace she would be on time.
Elena treaded corners and almost knocked two bicyclists to the ground, but a feeling of relief over washed her as she slowed down and walked into the building, acting like her breathing was normal.
She walked up to the secretary and smiled.
"I'm Elena Faulkner, I'm here for the internship," she said and the secretary smiled and nodded.
She slid over a pass with a lip on it and Elena took it gently.
"I'm signing you in, but you need to go to the top floor," she smiled and Elena could feel her eyes light up.
"The top floor," she repeated quietly as she walked over to the elevator and went inside.
Ready to begin her internship.
