Echoes of Us by @blu_haze

Echoes of Us speaks about a sixteen-year-old girl who unintentionally falls into a love triangle between her crush and her childhood best friend. She puts herself through many challenges and obstacles whilst misreading many subtle hints, ultimately making things havoc for the protagonist - Charlotte. Who will win Charlotte's high school love - Kai or Ethan?

The cover page should be chosen carefully as it must convey a message about the story. This cover page is a rather simple painted polaroid of a gravel path going across greenery land. On the path, a man and a woman can be spotted. To me, this symbolises a happy ending for one of the two boys whilst the three of them staying on a happy note.

The calm scenery around them symbolises that the three of them are at peace at the decision taken - they are understandable towards each other and they do not have harsh feelings at how things had turned out at the end. The colour green symbolises balance and calm in the environment which could also symbolise the balance and calm between the happy couple at the end. The book cover is a polaroid; it symbolises a longing of intimacy and real relationship which could be the need of either boy with the protagonist Charlotte.

I like the choice of cover page because although it hints a sense of happiness at the end, the mystery remains hidden of the person Charlotte ultimately chooses.

Another eye catching element to a story is the title. It should have a certain depth to the reader the second they take a glance at the book. To me, "Echoes of Us" speaks about the fading relationship between Charlotte and her childhood friend as the word "echo" usually symbolise the past or memories. The new boy replaces him and although she feels happy with her crush, she could hear their echoes lingering in the air.

A proper review of the title cannot be given at the moment as only few chapters are released but if this is the cause of the title, blu_haze's choice is beyond amazing.

The author, blu_haze has crafted a pleasingly short and sweet summary. This summary tells you only what you need to know and that grips the attention of all readers. It starts with a short introduction of the protagonist and talks about how the new boy's entrance shook a bit of chaos into her bland life. The rhetorical question in the end gives the element of suspense to the story which makes the reader satisfied to unveil the answers of these questions.

Overall this summary consists of the perfect balance between introducing the plot to the readers whilst keeping things a mystery.

The first chapter of any story is crucial as this is the only chapter which has the ability to attract more readers or repel them. The first chapter of this story brings out "the routine" of the protagonist, Charlotte. Her fun and bubble nature can be clearly visualized by the technique used by the author to portray this character. Her repetition of being bored and accepting the fact that she has Kai in her side opens up many doors to the possible future of Charlotte, Kai and the sorty itself.

Through the first chapter, the author has made it clear to the readers about the type of relationship between the two characters Charlotte and Kai. This gives a solid foundation for the future of the story and it helps the readers to navigate their emotions whilst reading this book.

The plot is about a high-school girl feeling confused of her feelings towards two specific boys in her school. Unfortunately she begins a love triangle which was far from what she had ever intended. Although the concept is common, the writer's talents to express Charlotte's lifestyle and chaos from her point of view makes the concept and this story out of the ordinary.

The writer has creatively expressed the personalities of Kai, Ethan and Tiffany throughout the story which gives some basic but important information about these characters.

This is a light-hearted story but the fumbles of Charlotte makes the story relatable and fun to read. Kudos to the author for a interesting plot.

Since there is only seven chapters on the story as this review is made, a prominent character development cannot be seen from any of the characters.

None of the character's backgrounds are mentioned in this story other than the point that Charlotte and Kai's friendship was "since forever". It would be interesting if bits of the character's backgrounds were inserted in the story. These could be put in as flash backs, memories or even a conversation of how they were in the past.

The story pace is on point. The characters feelings and expressions are clearly shown throughout the story. The setting around them are explained to the point. The only things to criticize is that some chapters are a bit short (for my liking). Overall, 8/10 for story pace.

The book can be developed by adding more depth to the characters. There are no grammatical errors but there are tiny spots which break the flow in the story. To correct these, try changing punctuation marks or you could use synonyms to create a better feel whilst reading this story. And it's always a good choice to make the readers understand that the characters each other by diving into simple activities, For instance, by showing how they talk about their favourite music or how they feel about their embarrassing moments (you could create some moments) to make the reader more involved with the book.

Overall, this book is amazing and correcting these wee mistakes could make wonders for your book.

I'm really sorry if I offended you in anyway, but I reviewed and critiqued with the best intentions. I hope these tips will be valuable and I hope this review would do justice to your book. You are a talented author and I am eagerly looking forward for new chapters. I wish you a great day ahead!
