(4) Violet eyes
Uni's POV
Cory, Tommy and I were walking through the forest. We had all awoken early and left at dawn. Tommy was leading us, and Cory walked next to me. I followed Tommys footsteps, and listened keenly for any sounds of monsters. We were all silent as we walked, the only sounds being our footsteps and breathing, and the occasional sound of Tommy adjusting the small guitar that he wore on his back by a small strap going over his shoulder and chest like a satchel.
I began to hum a quiet tune as we walked, trying to fill the uneasy silence. Then Cory cleared his throat, "So...Where exactly are we headed, Tommy?" He questioned curiously. Tommy sighed in relief, as if happy for the newly sparked conversation. "Well, there should be a town up ahead, and we can stop there to figure out our plan." Tommy explained. I nodded, then Tommy continued, "Oh, and this place isn't exactly the most...Normal place.." He said hesitantly. Cory looked at him, "What do you mean?" He questioned. Tommy was hesitant, "Oh, you'll know when you get there." He said. Then I heard music playing in the distance, "I think I hear it." I said. Tommy and Cory grew silent, as if listening. Then Tommy spoke, "Yep, that's the place. I know that overly cheery music from anywhere." He said. And, now that I think about it, It really did sound overly cheery.
Cory's POV
As Uni, Tommy, and I began to approach the sound of the music, I saw Uni smile. He always liked the sound of music, I guess since it's the one thing that he isn't missing out on without sight, that and touch. As the town came into view, I saw a big pair of iron gates, and a small watchtower beside it. I couldn't see through the gates, but I heard music and chatter from the other side of it. Then, Tommy stopped suddenly. "Hmmm..." he hummed in confusion. "Usually there's someone here who alerts the town that there are visitors, and takes you to the headmaster to get accepted as a visitor." Tommy explained, looking carefully at the watchtower. "Huh, sounds like an overly complicated process." Uni said. Tommy and I agreed, "Well, I guess we can just let ourselves in." Tommy said with a shrug. I looked suspiciously at the watchtower, then I shrugged and followed Tommys lead.
As we entered the gates slowly, opening them just enough to slip through, I was immediately surprised at the sight. "Is this a town of-" I began slowly, but Uni cut me off, "Jesters...?" I looked at Uni and saw him tapping his feet vigorously, as if wondering if he was sensing the right thing. "Heh, you bet!" Tommy laughed. I looked back out into the town and admired all the colors. The town looked relatively normal, all except the many jesters that walked around. The jesters all wore colorful outfits, and all outfits only had two colors, and they all wore three part, big jester hats with bells on ends of each part.
Some jester outfits had purple and orange, some had blue and orange, others wore pink and yellow, and many more. I stared in awe at all the colors, "This place is quite eye-catching." I said in awe. Tommy smiled, and Uni smiled aswell, "It's got great music." Uni commented, and I nodded in agreement. Then Tommy gestured for us to walk forward with him, "Let's go guys. We need to get supplies, and figure out our plan." He said. I agreed, and so did Uni. We began to walk forward, and I continued to take in the sights.
Happy looking jesters lined the streets. Some dancing among themselves, and others just chatting excitedly. Shops also lined the streets, all filled with colorful items, aswell as sweet-smelling pastries and foods. Tommy, Uni, and I continued walking. I was still looking around, when suddenly Tommy stopped walking abruptly, causing Uni and I to crash into Tommys back. I stopped and looked infront of Tommy, and I saw a jester standing infront of him, his arms crossed angrily, and an angered expression resting on his face.
I looked this jester up and down, and I realized that this jester looked different than the others. He was chubby, and tall. And his jester outfit was red and yellow, and instead of just three bells on his hat, he had bells lined across shoulder plates on his shoulders, and a strand of golden bells lined across on a strand on his chest. His jester hat was like all the other jesters hats, it was tight around the edges, not letting any of his hair be seen. This guy must be the headmaster... I thought to myself.
The head jester huffed in anger as he looked down at Tommy, since he was about 5 inches taller than him. "What are you doing here? I don't remember you getting permission to be in MY town." The jester huffed strictly. Uni leaned close to me and whispered quietly to me, "I thought hesters were supposed to be happy and nice..." I laughed quietly, and looked back at the jester. "Well, the gate was unmanned. That isn't our problem." Tommy said. The jesters eyes blazed with anger, "Really now? My gates are never unmanned! How do I know you didn't sneak in here to steal, huh? Or worse, enslave one of my people..." The jester boomed questioningly. I saw Tommys cat ears fall back in fear, and his tail twitched nerviously. "We were just passing thr-" He began, but the jester cut him off with a booming voice, "How dare you lie to me! You shall be imprisoned for your crimes!"
I immediantly got an uneasy feeling, and I saw Uni shifting uncomfortably to. Tommy seemed terrified, then the jester pointed at us, his brown eyes burning with rage. "Guards-" he began, but was cut off by a new voice. "Wait!" Someone yelled, and a smaller jester ran up to us and stood defensively infront of Tommy. He had his arms spread out bravely as he stood between the large jester and us. He was drastically smaller than the head jester, and he was also alot shorter than Tommy. He was about 6 inches shorter than Tommy, but he stood tall.
The smaller jester wore a purple and green jester outfit. He had little gold bells on his hat that made a cute tinkling noise when he moved. His clothes were loose on his small body, and his striped sleeves were long and loose, and they nearly covered his hands, which had brownish-orange gloves. His dark purple pants stayed on loosely, and his brown boots with a point seemed to just barely fit. And one thing that set him apart from the others, other than his size, was that he three part jester hat was big for him, and dark green, fluffy hair covered his forehead, and stuck out the sides of the bottom of his hat.
The large jester huffed in annoyance, "What do you want, Jon?" He questioned impatiently. "U-Um...Headmaster, it isn't their fault! I was on gate duty... I-I wasn't paying attention! If anyone is going to get punished, punish me! Please, they're innocent!" Jon pleaded. I was shocked by the smaller jesters pleads, and I saw Tommys tail twitching anxiously. The headmaster growled under his breath and leaned down to meet the smaller jesters gaze. I couldn't see his face, but something yold me he was terrified. "And who put you on gate duty?" The headmaster growled venomously. The jester was silent for a few moments before hesitantly answering, "I-I put my self on gate duty, s-sir..." he said.
The headmaster huffed angrily, then Jon cried out, "Im sorry! I just wanted to be of use! I don't wanna just sit around and watch others work while I do nothing! I want a purpose!" He said. The headmaster frowned, then slapped the smaller jester painfully. Jon didn't make a sound, but he quickly brought his hand up to his stinging cheek. I heard Uni gasp quietly as the jester was slapped. "Well Jon. You don't have a purpose, you know that. You aren't even mean't to be here. And I honestly don't know why I keep mistakes like you around. It's sad really. You're parents were such incredible jesters...It's quite a shame that they sacrified theirselves for your worthless soul." The bigger jester said darkly.
I heard Jon sniffle, and he put his head down in shame. "Now, get out of here before I do much worse!" The larger jester yelled. Jon looked back at us for a moment, and I was suprised to see that his eyes were a deep, beautiful, violet color. Tears were in his eyes, then one fell down his cheek, and he turned and ran away. The head jester watched him run away, then he looked back at us. "Well, I'll deal with that brat later. Now, I guess you guys can stay for the rest of the evening, but you must leave before nightfall, or I WILL imprison you without hesitation." The jester said strictly. Then he shot us and angered gaze, and turned around and wallked away.
We watched as he left, and then Uni spoke, "Poor Jon! Did you hear what that troll said to him!? Where's this guys decency!?" He exclaimed. Tommy shook his head sadly, "Yeah, I never liked that guy..." Tommy said quietly. "Why does he hate Jon?" I questioned Tommy. Tommy shrugged, "I've only heard a few rumors over the past times i've visited this place. They say his parents had him secretly, then he wandered into the forest, and his parents got killed by something trying to save him. They say he blames himself, and everyone else blames him too." Tommy said sadly. "Awe, that poor jester..." Uni said sadly. "Yeah..." I agreed sadly. "Um, guys I hate to crash the pity party, but nightfall's coming, and we need to get supplies." Tommy said. Uni and I nodded, "Yeah...Let's go."
Tommy, Uni, and I were heading slowly towards the back gate of the town, and we were about to exit the town and continue on our way. We had a leather bag with 5 small loaves of bread and 3 water canteens inside it. We would have to ration, but it was enough. Then as we were exiting, Uni stopped walking. I stopped beside him, and Tommy stopped slightly infront of him. We were almost 10 feet away from the gates, and we were all ready to leave this overly cheery town. "What's wrong, Uni?" I questioned. Uni looked straight at an ally way a few meters away from us, "Did you hear that?" He questioned.
"Hear what?" Tommy questioned confusedly. "Shhh... Listen.." Uni whispered. Tommy and I glanced at each other, then we both got quiet to listen. Tommys cat ears were pointed forward, trying to pick up sounds, and I was just listening closely. Then, I heard the smallest sniffling sound. Tommys ear twitched, "It sounds like someone's....Crying." Tommy whispered. Uni and I nodded, and we all began to slowly walk towards the sound. And soon enough we stopped at a darkened alleyway, and the sniffling sounds seemed to be coming from here. We all peeked in, and the sight broke my heart. It was the sane jester from earlier, Jon. And he was crying on the ground with his back against the wall. He was hugging jis2 knees against his chest, and he was crying into his large, striped sleeves. I wondered what to do, then Uni stepped forward.
Uni's POV
I stepped closer to the crying jester, and I began to walk lightly to him. He stiffened as he heard me approach, then he quickly looked at me. I knew he saw me coming, because he gasped fearfully and quickly wailed, "P-Please don't hit me! I'll get up! J-Just please don't hit me!" He wailed, and his pitiful tone of voice made my heart ache, and I could only picture his sad expression. "Don't worry, I won't hit you. Im here to help you." I whispered softly, kneeling down to where I believed that his eye level was.
He stiffened in suprise, "H-Help me...?" He questioned quietly, and I could feel his gaze resting curiously on me. I nodded, "Yeah, what's your name again, by the way." I questioned softly. "Jon...Jon the jester.." He answered quietly. "Jon...Well, im Uni, and those guys are Tommy and Cory." I said, gesturing back to Tommy and Cory. Jon nodded, "Hi..." he whispered.
"So Jon, what do you do here?" I questioned, and Jon only hung his head sadly. He sighed, "Nothing...The headmaster says that I don't have a purpose here... He says I can't do anything right, so I get punished for doing anything at all..." Jon whispered sadly. "Im sure you have a purpose somewhere. I mean, everyone has a purpose."
Jon only shook his head, "No...Headmaster says im a mistake...And mistakes don't have purposes. He says I shouldn't be here..." Jon said, his voice cracking sadly as he spoke. "Nonsense!" I exclaimed. "But that's what headmaster says." Jon said softly. "Well, headmaster's wrong!" I said strictly. Jon gasped quietly, "Wow...You're the first person that I've ever heard say that!" He said in awe. "Well it's true! You ARE here for a reason, and whether you believe that or not, it's true." I said softly. Jon sighed sadly, "I wish that was true..." Jon whispered. "It is true!" I snapped. "No, I don't have a family, or friends, or a job to do, or even a reason to live!" Jon cried.
I was silent for a moment, then I gasped in excitement, "You should join our quest!" I exclaimed happily. Jon looked up at me, "Your....Quest..?" He questioned slowly. "Yeah! We're saving the world from a villian named Graser, and we could give you everything that you just said you don't have!" I said happily. "Saving the world....And you could give me everything I want in life? That's impossible." Jon whispered. "No, it isn't. Believe me...I know. We could be your family, and your friends, and this could be your job, and your purpose!" I said happily, putting a friendly hand on Jons shoulder. Jon was silent for a moment before whispering, "What could I possibly help with on an adventure to save the world? I can't do anything right..." Jon questioned. I was quiet for a moment then I answered softly, "I don't know yet, but everyone has something that they're good at. You just have to find it! This adventure will give you space to grow and spread. And with that, you will unlock your talents.. So, you in?" I questioned softly. I stood up and held my hand out for him to take, "We can take care of you Jon... Please...We want to help you." I whispered. Jon looked down at the ground for a few moments, silently. Then he looked up at me, and I knew he was smiling. He sniffed one last time, then a felt his hand grab mine, and I pulled him up.
"Im glad you could join us, Jon!" I said happily, patting his back. Then we walked over to Tommy and Cory. "Im glad to have another friend on this adventure." Cory said happily. "Yeah...We can do this together!" Tommy said. We all talked for a few moments, then Tommy gasped. "Sorry to ruin the welcome party, but... I the sun is setting, and I really don't feel like being imprisoned here...So, let's go!" Tommy said. Cory and I agreed, the I turned to Jon, "Let's go! We'll fill you in on our adventure later!" I said quickly. Jon nodded, then we ran out of the town exit, ready for the next grand chapter of our adventure!
A/N Yay! Im back! Wow, this chapter only took 3 hour to write! Fun! I hope you enjoyed this chapter, and I HOPE YOU HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY, AND GOODBYE PEEPS!
