(21) The Arrival
Ashlie's POV
I awoke slowly to someone shaking my shoulder, and I groaned tiredly. Then I opened my eyes, and looked over and met eyes with Jon. He smiled, "Wake up Atlie! We have to leave soon!" He exclaimed, and I yawned, sitting up, "Okay..." I muttered, looking around. Tommy was up, swinging his guitar over his shoulder, Cory was grabbing his bow and arrows, and Uni was leaning against a tree patiently, but Nick was nowhere to be seen. I looked around, "Where's Nick?" I questioned, getting up. "Oh, he left earlier to gather some berries for us." Cory answered.
"He's here." Uni suddenly announced, and a few moments later Nick emerged from the brush, carrying a small pouch of berries. "Yay! Berries!" Jon announced, and Nick chuckled. He walked over to Jon and gave him a small handful of berries, "Here ya go." He said, and Jon thanked him. Nick went around, giving us all berries. I smiled at him as I began eating the berries in my hand. "Thanks Nick." I said, and the others did the same. "We should get going as soon as possible." Uni said to all of us, and we nodded in agreement.
After we all finished our berries and gathered our stuff, we headed out. We followed Uni and Cory through the forest, a curious tint was in the air. "So, how much farther?" Tommy questioned. "I'm not quite sure...But I have a strong feeling that we're close." Uni said. "What do you think this Destino place will be like?" Jon inquired curiously. Uni shrugged, "No idea, it could be anything." Uni said with a small, thoughtful smile. "Maybe it's a town with people who could help us." Nick guessed. "Yeah, like an army...That'd shred." Tommy agreed. "Maybe it's a place with weapons that we could fight with." I added.
"Those are all cool ideas." Jon said with a smile. "Great, now I'm all curious. Thanks guys." Cory complained playfully. "Haha, what Carl, you aren't curious about this legendary destination?" Tommy questioned the camera faced boy. Cory rolled his lense, "Tommy, I'm going to punch you if you call me that ONE more time." Cory growled through gritted teeth. "What, Carl?" He questioned, and Cory stopped walking and glared back a Tommy. Tommy chuckled, "Geez, Carl, don't get your trousers in a-" Tommy began, but was cut off when Cory leaped at him.
Tommy grabbed Cory's fist out of the air with a smirk before it could make contact with his face. "Nice try, Ca-" "Shut up, Tom!" Cory interrupted loudly. "Guys, chill." Uni tried to intervene, but the two ignored him. "Awe, you know I can't do that, Carl." Tommy continued to tease. Cory narrowed his lense more, and suddenly yanked Tommys arm forward by his wrist, since he was still holding his fist. Tommy yelped as he was yanked to the ground by Cory. "Caaaarrrrlllll!!! Whyyyyy!?!?!?" Tommy whined, and Cory kicked some loose dirt onto the older boy. Cory then walked back to Unis side and continued walking, "Let's go." He said simply.
Jon walked over and helped Tommy up, who was patting his coat to get the dirt off of it. He shook his ears and tail, then began walking aswell. I chuckled at him, "Dude, I think you found Cory's trigger word." I joked, and Tommy chuckled in response.
Uni's POV
As we began walking again the others began to once again hypothesize about Destino. I listened with a small smile, though I felt a bit of dread in my chest, as if it wasn't going to be a good destination. I tried to ignore a feeling, but it wasn't quite working. That's when I suddenly felt my foot hit something, and I yelped as I tripped over a log in our path. I huffed as I slowly began to get up. "Dude, are okay?" Cory asked, and I knew he was offering me his hand. I nodded, reaching up and grabbing his hand, which he pulled me up by. "I'm fine..." I muttered, kicking the stupid log. It felt aged, and it was rotting. I sensed Cory looking around, "Hey Uni, does this place seem familiar to you?" Cory questioned. I tapped my feet curiously, but noticed nothing much out of the ordinary.
"No, does it seem familiar to you?" I questioned, turning to face him. "Well, kinda...Almost like the forest we met in." Cory mentioned. "I doubt we've made our way all the way back to that forest." I commented. "Well...I guess." Cory murmured, continuing to walk forward. I began walking aswell, and the others followed my lead.
We walked about 15 minutes more, That's when Cory, who was a few feet ahead of us stopped dead in his tracks. He was standing on the edge of the tree line. There seemed to be some sort of dip in the earth. The feeling that I had been feeling all this time was stronger than ever. "Uni...You might want to come check this out..."
He said quietly.
Nick's POV
After Cory spoke, Uni sped up to Cory's side, tapping his feet. As soon as he reached the edge, he froze completely, as if in shock. We all hurried to their side, looking to see what they were staring at, and we all seemed to stiffen at the sight. It was a town, but not what you would expect.
The ground was covered with dust and ash, and some parts of it had inches of ash stacked up. Buildings made of stone and wood stood, or what was left of them, stood weakly in the clearing. They were all burnt looking, rotting, and falling apart. The wood and stone was stained black from whatever fire had wreaked havoc upon the large town. Every house was burned, none were left unscaved. Some houses were completly fallen apart, reduced to noting but burnt rubble. We all stared silently at the destroyed town, "This isn't what I was expecting..." I heard Jon whisper to Ashlie, and I couldn't help but silently agree.
"It's still here..." I heard Uni whisper almost inaudibly. He took a step forward without hesitation, "After all these years..." He continued, and he began walking down the hill towards the town. Cory was looking at him questioningly, but quickly followed wordlessly. We all did the same, following the two boys in confusion. The sight was more horrific from it's own level. The houses seemed more torn up, more burnt and haunting. "Oh my god..." I heard Ashlie whisper, and I looked at her questioningly. She was staring wide-eyed at something, and I followed her gaze, but I kinda wish I hadn't. I human skull was protruding out of the ash, along with some other human bones.
I slowly walked over to the skull, staring down at it grossly. I then reached down and picked it up from the ash. "Nick, put it down!" Jon whisper-yelled fearfully. I kept holding it, studying it a bit. "It looks about ten years old..." I observed before sitting the skull neatly on top if the ash. I looked back at Tommy, Jon, and Ashlie. "It's a shame, it seemed that whoever's skull that was was only in their twenties." I added sadly.
I then looked forward again, realizing that Uni was slowly walking around, feeling the aged wood of burnt houses. He seemed to be taking in every detail. I decided to explore aswell, and the others seemed to do the same. I heard someone run up behind me, and I looked over to see Tommy tagging along with me. "This place is real eerie, why do you think this is where Uni ended up?" Tommy asked. I thought for a moment, "Didn't Uni mention that his town was burnt down....?" I suddenly realized. "Oh geez, you're right...Do you think this is the place?" Tommy asked. I nodded, "Maybe..." I murmured.
We began passing some burnt houses, and Tommy stopped walking. I stopped too, and I saw that he was staring down at something. I followed his gaze, and I saw the skeleton of a dog in the ash, it's brown leather collar still around it's bony neck. "That's really messed up..." He murmured. "Looks like it burned like everything else here..." I murmured. "I don't think that's the case here..." He muttered.
I looked at him, "What do you mean?" I questioned. He pointed at the creatures head, and for the first time I noticed the knife-shaped stab wound in its head. "Somebody killed it..." I realized. Tommy nodded, and continued walking. As we continued walking, I noticed many skeletons in the houses, but also some on the path that we were walking on. That's when I noticed something in the path ahead of us, and Tommy seemed to notice it too.
There was a line of skeletons on the ground, adult and children alike. We walked closer to them, and I realized that they all had some sort of injury to their skull or another bone. I would say that they were natural injuries...If it wasn't that every skeleton seemed to have injuries from the SAME weapon. "Oh my god...Someone murdered ALL these people....." Tommy whispered. I started backing up, "Let's go tell the others." I said quietly, and began running back to the others, Tommy following close behind.
When we finally found Cory and Uni, we began running to them. That's when I heard Uni suddenly exclaim something that suprised me. "DAWN!?" He screamed, and ran into one of the houses.
A/N Wow, this was darker than what it was supposed to be...Well, was Destino what you expected....? Lol, well, anyway, I hope you enjoyed...And as always, I HOPE YOU HAVE A GREAT DAY, AND GOODBYE PEEPS!!!!
