(Y/N P.O.V)

We are walking to the Western Air Temple, I am at the front to say when we arrive. "This is humiliating."

Sokka:"Do you mean getting thoroughly spanked by the fire nation, or having to walk all the way to the Western Air Temple?"

Katara:"Both."

Aang:"Sorry guys, but Appa gets tired carrying all these people."

'Could be worse, at least we aren't in the desert'. "I wonder how the rest of the troops are."

Haru:"They're probably on their way to a prison, seems like my dad just got out, now he's going back in."

The Duke:"I miss Pipsqueak."

Sokka:"I miss not having blisters on my feet."

'There it is, it's been a long time since I was here'. "Hey we're here, I can feel it."

Katara:"Uh, I think your feet need their eyes checked."

Aang:"No, she's right, we are here!"

No one else, except us three could tell. "Wow, it's amazing."

You:"Yes it is the most difficult built Air Temple, and it is the hardest to find."

I 'looked' at the others who didn't know where it was, and simply pointed down.

(Skip to talking about the plan)

Aang:"Why can't I go?"

Katara:"We need to decide what we're going to do now, and since your the avatar, maybe you should be apart of this."

Aang was going to join the others in exploring the temple, but we needed to have a meeting. 'And That is normal for us, sadly'. "Fair enough, so what's the new plan?"

Sokka:"Well if you ask me, the new plan is the old plan, you just need to master all four elements and confront the Fire Lord before the comet comes."

Aang:"Oh yeah, that's great no problem, I'll just do that."

Katara:"Aang, no one said it's going to be easy."

Aang:"Well it's not even going to be possible, where am I supposed to get a firebending teacher?"

Katara:"We could look for Jeong Jeong."

'Like we have time to hunt down someone, when we have no idea where to start and then still need time to train Aang'. "Yeah right, like we'll ever run into Jeong Jeong again."

Toph:"Who's...Oh never mind, if it's important I'll find out."

Aang:"Oh well, guess we can't come up with anybody, why don't we just take a nice tour around the temple!"

And with that he took off. "What's up with him?"

You:"He wants to act his own age for once, but he knows he can't and still is trying while he has the chance here."

Sokka:"There's got to be someone who can teach him firebending."

That got me thinking. 'There might be someone who can'.

(Skip to the forest)

I went searching and found Zuko, talking to a Badgerfrog? 'Okay then'. "Hello Zuko here, but I guess you probably already know me, sort of. Uh, so the thing is I have a lot of firebending experience and I'm considered to be pretty good at it, well you've seen me, you know when I was attacking you. Uh, yeah I guess I should apologize for that, b-but anyway I'm good now. I mean I thought I was good before but now I realize I was bad bugh anyway I think it's time I joined your group and thought the avatar firebending."

Badgerfrog:*rumble**growl? Grumble?*

Zuko:"Well, whats your answer?!!"

Badgerfrog: *jump* *croak*

Zuko:"Yeah, that's what I'd say too, how am I supposed to convince these people I'm on their side? What would uncle do? 'Zuko you have to look within yourself to save yourself from your other self, only then will your true self reveal it's self'. Hhu, even when I'm talking for him I can't figure out what he means. What would Azula do? 'Listen avatar, I can join your group or I can do something unspeakably horrible to you and your friends, your choice'. I guess I'm not that good at impersonations."

Badgerfrog:*jump* *croak*

You:"I don't know, that one of your sister was dead on in my opinion."

I chuckled a bit. "(Y/n), what are you doing here? How much of that did you hear?"

You:"I knew you followed us and thought I could talk to you about joining us, though it seems I don't have to, and I heard all of it."

Zuko:"So you can help me convince them? That's great le-"

You:"No I can't convince them, I can get you to them and not have them attack you, but you have to talk to them not me."

Zuko:"*sigh* Its better than nothing I suppose."

We then went back to the temple to try and convince them thatZuko would make a good teacher for Aang. 'This isn't going to end well, I just know it'.

(Time skip, you shall not p- NO)

I waited with Zuko for the others to get back. Then I saw Appa coming in. "Oh, and your gonna love the all day echo chamber!"

Toph:"I think that'll have to wait."

I smirked. 'Leave it to her to figure out someone's here'. They all turned to see me and Zuko. "Hello, Zuko here."

They all armed them selves. 'Is that the best he can do?'. I held my hand up to them. "Wait, I brought him here, just let him speak."

They lowered their respective stances/weapons a little. "I know you must be surprised to see me here."

Sokka:"Not really, since you've followed us all over the world."

Zuko:"Right, well uh anyway, what I wanted to tell you about is that I've changed and I uh, I'm good now and well I think I should join your group, oh and I can teach firebending...to you; see I uh-"

Toph:"You wanna what now?!"

'Yep that is not a good tone'. "You can't possibly think any of us would trust you, can you? I mean how stupid do you think we are?!"

Sokka:"Yeah, all you've ever done is hunt us down and capture Aang!"

Zuko:"I've done some good things, I mean I could've stolen your bison in Ba sing se, but I set him free, that's something."

Appa licked him after he said that. 'Appa must be grateful to Zuko for helping him'. "Appa does seem to like him."

Sokka:"He probably just covered himself with hunny or something so Appa would lick him, I'm not buy'n it!"

Zuko:"I can understand why you wouldn't trust me, and I know I've made some mistakes in the past..."

Sokka:"Like when you attacked our village!"

Katara:"Or when you stole my mother's necklace and used it to track us down and capture us!!"

Zuko:"Look I admit I've done some awful things, I was wrong to try and capture you, and I'm sorry I attacked the water tribe, and I never should have sent that fire nation assassin after you, I'm going to try and stop-"

I facepalmed internally when he said that. 'Shouldn't have mentioned the assassin'. "Wait you sent combustion-man after us?!"

Zuko:"Well that's not his name but-"

Sokka:"Oh, sorry, I didn't mean to insult your friend."

Zuko:"He's not my friend!"

Toph:"That guy locked me and Katara in jail, and tried to blow us all up!"

Zuko then looked towards Aang. "Why aren't you saying anything? You once said you thought we could be friends, you know I have good in me."

Aang was looking at the others, and getting a silent 'no' in response. "There's no way we can trust you after everything you've done, we'll never let you join us!"

Katara:"You need to get out of here now!"

'Yeah this is going about as well as I expected'. "I'm trying to explain that I'm not that person anymore!"

Sokka:"Either you leave, or we attack!"

I got ready subconsciously to defend him. 'Even if he isn't an ally you don't attack an unarmed/unwilling foe'. "If you won't except me as a friend, then maybe you'll take me as a prisoner."

'I did not expect that from him'. "No, we won't!"

She was about to strike him with water, but I intervened. I used Airbending to force the water to land a few yards to my left, it did look like I was water bending though. "Attacking an opponent who has surrendered himself makes the aggressor look even worse than their enemy. Zuko I would recommend you leave, so that they can cool off."

He trudged off and we went back to the farther wall of the temple. "Why would be try to fool us like that?"

Sokka:"Obviously he wants lead us into some kind of trap."

Katara:"This is just like when we were in prison together in Ba sing se, he starts talking about his mother and making it seem like he's an actual human being with feelings."

Sokka:"He wants you to trust him and feel sorry for him, so you let your guard down, then he strikes."

Katara:"The thing is, it worked, I did feel sorry for him, I felt like he was really confused and hurt, but obviously when the time came he made his choice; and we paid the price. We can't trust him."

Aang:"I kinda have a confession to make, remember when you two were sick and I got captured by Zhao?"

Sokka:"And you made us sick on frozen frogs, how could I forget, I had a wart on the flap that hangs down from the back of my throat for a month!"

Katara:"Sokka, I looked at it and told you there was nothing there."

Sokka:"I could feel it, it's my throat hole flap!"

Aang:"Anyway, when Zhao had me chained up it was Zuko who came in and got me out, he risked his life to save me."

Katara:"No way, I'm sure he only did it to capture you him self!"

Sokka:"Yeah, face it Aang, You're nothing but a big prize to him."

Aang:"Your probably right."

Katara:"And what was all that crazy stuff about setting Appa free? what a lier!"

Toph:"Actually he wasn't lying."

You:"She's right, I was there when he set Appa free, I know he wasn't lying."

Sokka:"Oh hurray, in a lifetime of evil, at least he didn't add animal cruelty to the list."

Toph:"I'm just saying that considering his messed up family and how he was raised, he could have turned out a lot worse."

Katara:"Your right Toph, let's go find him and give him a medal, The "Not as much of a jerk as you could've been award"."

Toph:"All I know is that while he was talking to us he was sincere, maybe you three just letting your hurt feelings keep you from thinking clearly."

Katara:"Easy for you to say, you weren't there when he had us attacked by pirates!"

Sokka:"Or when he burned down Kioshi Island!"

Aang:"Or when he tried to capture me at the fire temple!"

You:"But I was! And yes he has done things you may never truly forgive, but he is still our best chance! And I've travel with him, there is good, he has just been confused!"

Katara:"Why would you even try to defend him?!"

Toph:"Because Katara you three are ignoring one crucial face, Aang needs a firebending teacher, we can't think of a single person in the world to do the job, now one shows up on a silver platter and you won't even think about it!"

Aang:"I'm not having Zuko as my teacher!"

Sokka:"You're darn right your not buddy!"

Katara:"Well, I guess that's settled."

Toph huffed and turned to walk away. "I'm beginning to wonder who are really the blind one's around here!"

I opened my glider and started to storm off. "Ignorance is bliss and fatally scarring."

Then I flew off to clear my head. 'I understand why they refuse to accept him, but they could at least listen to reason'.

(Skip to the morning)

We were all standing around while Katara served breakfast. "Has anyone seen Toph?"

Sokka:"I haven't seen her since she stormed off yesterday."

Haru:"Maybe she's just exploring the Air Temple, there are some pretty fun spots to practice earthbending."

Katara:"I think we should go look for her."

Sokka:"Ah, let her have fun with her rocks, I'm in no rush to have her yelling at us again."

The Duke:"We can go check for her."

Teo:"Yeah, I wanna ride that tunnel down at the hall of statues again, it'll work a lot better now that I've fixed my brakes."

'I have a very bad feeling in my gut'. When the others had left me, Katara, Sokka, and Aang heard a rumble, then a wall collapsed. "Ghu uh hugh!"

Toph fell through the hole and we rushed over. "Toph, what happened?"

Toph:"My feet got burned."

Katara:"Oh no, what happened?"

Toph:"I just told you, my feet got burned!"

Katara:"I meant how."

Toph:"Well, I kind of went to see Zuko last night."

Aang:"You what?!!"

Katara:"Zuko?!"

Sokka:"Euh!"

You:"Oh boy *facepalm*."
Toph:"I just thought he could be helpful to us, and if I talked to him maybe we could work something out."

Sokka:"So he attacked you?!"

Toph:"Well he did and he didn't, it was sort of an accident."

'So she surprised him I presume'. "But he did firebend at you?"

Toph:"*Sigh* yes."

Sokka:"See, you trusted Zuko and you got burned, literally."

Katara:"It's going to take awhile for your feet to get better, I wish I could've worked on them sooner."

Toph:"Yeah me too."

Sokka:"Zuko's clearly too dangerous to be left alone, we're going to have to go after him."

Aang:"I hate to go looking for a fight, but you're right, after what he did to Toph I don't think we have a choice."

I went over and picked up Toph bridal style, then started towards the fountain. "He's crafty, but we'll find a way to capture him."

Toph:"Maybe Just invite him back here? He's already offered himself up as a prisoner once."

Sokka:"Yeah, get him to come back and say he'll be our prisoner, then we'll jump him and really make him our prisoner, he'll never suspect it."

Katara:"You are a master of surprise Sokka."

I looked down at Toph and whispered. "You know I could've gone with you."

Toph smirked. "What are jealous? Or do you just love me that much?"

I smiled. "Definitely the second one, but I'd rather not see you hurt."

I kissed her and whispered. "I will protect you, like I said in the volcano, but I need you to help me keep my promise."

I heard her heartbeat quicken a little at the mention of that.

(Flashback)

We were flying over the river of lava, to get to the secret fire nation bunker. Sokka and Toph were both screaming as we went. I turned and 'looked' at Toph, then an idea came to mind. I flipped us so that Toph flew up and I grabbed her, so now I was gliding with one arm and holding her with my other one. "Don't worry I won't let anything happen to you, I promise I will protect you and love you."

I could feel her heart race, though that could just be from the adrenaline from being over a river of lava. I full on kissed her while I had a chance. "Your an ass, you airhead!"

I smirked. "Ah, but I'm your airhead."

We then landed on the other side of the river after we caught up with Aang and Sokka. "Well that was fun, ow, what was that for?"

Toph had punched me. "I have no idea what your talking about."

Then when the other two were a few feet ahead she leaned up and kissed me. "I'm going to hold you to that promise, at least part of it."

(Flashback end)

I placed Toph down on the edge of the fountain and her feet in the water. "Ahh, That's the stuff, now I know how the rest of you guys feel, not being able to see with your feet stinks."

We then grabbed a few things like a towel for after she's done and some ointment for her burns. But then the ceiling exploded. "Stop, I don't want you hunting the avatar anymore!-"

'Rats, I let my guard down'. Combustion-man had fired his blast at us and Zuko had diverted it. "The mission is off, I'm ordering you to stop."

And another blast, this one destroyed part of the fountain. "If you keep attacking I won't pay you."

Zuko attempted to punch him, but he couldn't even touch him. "Alright I'll pay you double to stop!"

Another missed shot and now he's aiming at Zuko. 'Well that's not good'. He fired and knocked Zuko off the cliff, luckily there was a vine. Aang sent a twister at him, but he dodged it and fired again. He landed on another platform and fired again, this time Katara used waterbending to throw ice shards at the assassin. But the guy blocked it with his metal arm and leg. 'This guy is tough'. While he was distracted we moved behind a pilar and heard more explosions. 'At least he didn't see us'. "He's going to blast this whole place right off the cliff side!"

Katara:"I can't step out to waterbend at him without getting blown up and I can't get a good enough angle on him from down here!"

Sokka:"I know how to get an angle on him!"

He grabbed his boomerang and followed the direction of each blast, then got ready to throw it. "Alright buddy, don't fail me now."

You:"Wait Sokka!"

Sokka:"What?!"

You:"If you throw your boomerang and he see's it then he will just blast it into pieces, so I will distract him after the next blast and then you throw it, ok?"

He didn't get to argue as the next blast came, I opened my glider and flew out of there to try and get his attention. It seemed to work well since he now aimed at me. 'Wow, he's an idiot'. I saw Sokka's boomerang sailing towards combustion-man, and it hit him right on his forehead knocking him down. "Yeah, boomerang!!"

Then he got back up and rubbed his head, right where he apparently had a third eye tattoo I'm told. "Aww, Boomerang!!"

They retreated back to the pillar and combustion-man got another blast ready. But when he fired his bending backfired and the whole building exploded, along with him. As I was flying up to help Zuko up the assassins metal hand nearly hit me, so I grabbed it. 'So an extremely dangerous/powerful type of bending, that comes at a high price in vulnerability'. I reached the building where Zuko was just about all the way back up on. I looked down at him and showed him the metal arm. "Need a hand?"

I reached down with my actual hand and pulled him up. He chuckled and looked at me. "Out of everything you could say that what you came up with?"

You:"Hey, but you chuckled at it."

We both got down and walked towards the others, I walked over to Toph. "I can't believe I'm saying this, but thanks Zuko."

Sokka:"Hey, what about me? I did the boomerang thing."

Zuko:"Listen, I know I didn't explain myself very well yesterday, I've been through a lot in the past few years, and it's been hard. But I'm realizing, I had to go through all those things to learn the truth, I though I had lost my honor and that somehow my father could return it to me. But I know now that no one can give you your honor, it's something you earn for yourself by choosing to do what's right. All I want to do now I play my part in ending this war, and I know my destiny is to help you restore balance to the world."

I could tell Aang was definitely think about it now, and not looking for our guidance. 'Good, only he can make this choice'. "I'm sorry for what I did to you, it was an accident, fire can be dangerous and wild, so as a firebender I need to be more careful and control my bending so I don't hurt people unintentionally."

Aang:"I think you are supposed to be my firebending teacher."

Sokka and Katara were noticeably shocked. "when I first tried to learn firebending I burned Katara, and after that I never wanted to firebend again. But now I know you understand how easy it is to hurt the people you love, I'd like you to teach me."

They both bowed to each other. "Thank you, I'm so happy you've excepted me into your group."

Aang:"Not so fast, I still have to ask my friends if it's ok with them. Toph you're the one that Zuko burned, what do you think?"

Toph:"Go ahead and let him join, it'll give me plenty of time to get back at him for burning my feet."

I shivered a little. 'Poor poor Zuko'. "(Y/n)?"

You:"I was the one who brought him to talk the first time, so of course."

Aang:"Sokka?"

Sokka:"Hey all I want is to defeat the Fire Lord, if you think this is the way to do it, then I'm all for it."

Aang:"Katara?"

Katara was silent for a minute. 'Probably trying not to put right scream 'no way' or seem too rude'. "I'll go along with whatever you think is right."

Zuko:"I won't let you down, I promise."

Everyone started leaving, I gave him a thumbs up before following and grabbing Toph.

(Skip a few hours)

I walked into Zuko's room. "I need to ask a favor."

He looked at me. "Sure, what would that be?"

I pulled out a letter, and flipped it over. "I need you to write something for me on the back of this."

He nodded and we got to work.
