Chapter 6

August-

It had been a month since John left Fiona. She hadn't heard a single word from him, which is what she expected. She was all alone and everyday went by so slow. Fiona spent the month beating herself up for the affair. She wondered what was wrong with her and why he did what he did. Her confidence slowly diminished. She no longer felt young and beautiful. She didn't look at herself the same in the mirror.

The short time that Fiona had become excited about having a daughter was short lived. She had lots of anger towards her child. She strongly believed if she had never become pregnant that he would still be with her.

Fiona feel into a deep depression. She never left her home. Now that she was all alone in her big Hollywood home she had nothing to do. She spent most of her days by the pool.

Fiona treated herself to a cigarette once a week to satisfy her cravings. As she sat on her couch with a cigarette in one hand and cosmo in the other the doorbell echoed through her living room.

"Damn it." She groans. She grabs onto the arms of her couch and pulls herself up. She keeps her cigarette between her fingers and slowly walks to the door. Her long silk robe flowed behind her and her heels made a clicking noise as they touched the tile floor of her entry way.

Through the door windows she could see a red convertible sitting in her driveway, but she couldn't see who was at the door.

She slowly opened it to see her mother with suitcases by her side. Fiona immediately rolled her eyes.

It had been months since she had spoken to her mother. Once her mother sent her away to Robichaux's Academy at such a young age, there was always tension. Her mother, Eileen, was also a witch. Her and Fiona shared many qualities when it came to powers and how they use them.

Eileen's eyes went straight to Fiona's large stomach. She shook her head.

"And it's true..." she says to herself. Fiona's mother lets herself in and sets her bags at the door way. She turns her head and looks around the home then back at her daughter.

Eileen knew nothing of Fiona's pregnancy. Myrtle had told her and once she found out she knew she had to go to Fiona.

Eileen sniffed a few times then looked at Fiona's hand to see the burning cigarette.

"My god Fiona, while you're with child?" She snatched the cigarette out of her hand and throws it on the ground. She steps on it then wipes her hands.

"Why are you here?" Fiona hisses, slamming the door behind her.

Eileen walks through the home and Fiona follows her.

"Myrtle called me... she's been trying to get ahold of you. She said maybe the reason you've decided not to answer is because you've been busy preparing for your baby... I didn't believe her when she said MY Fiona was having a child. I needed to come and see for myself." Her mother turns around then looks her up and down. She crosses her arms and sighs.

"Now look at you, as big as a house." She chuckles

"Leave, now." She hisses

Fiona attempts to raise her hand but Eileen stops her with her own powers.

"You may be supreme, but black magic doesn't work on me." She walks closer and closer to her daughter.

"I'm all you have, Fiona. You'll need all the help you can get. Especially with how selfish you are."

Fiona and her mother could go at it for hours. They were so much alike in many different ways. They had the same personality. When the two of them were together, it never ended well.

"I'm not alone." Fiona says sternly

"Oh but you are... I don't see John anywhere. I always told you that you should have never left that great husband of yours for a man in Hollywood. Now you're alone and pregnant."

Fiona tries to hold back her tears. "Save me the grief, mother. I don't need it."

"Let me stay and help you, Fiona."

As much as Fiona hated her mother being around, she knew she needed her. Fiona knew nothing about being a parent.

Fiona hangs her head low then sighs. "I have nothing."

Eileen wrapped her arms around Fiona and held her close.

"Why don't we sit and talk." Eileen says

Fiona and her mother shared a long conversation. Fiona spilled everything to Eileen. She'd been holding everything in for so long that she did need to talk.

"... you should have killed him when you had the chance, my love. You know your powers and strengths." Eileen grins and shakes her head as she sets down her cup of tea.

"I'm not like you mother."

"Oh yes you are. Evil runs in your blood. It will run in your little baby's blood too."

"Heh, you're rotten to the core." A small smile appeared on Fiona's face

"And so are you my love..."
She smiles

"Have you been feeling weaker?" Her mother asks

Fiona nods "It's almost as if my powers are being taken from me."

"It's taking them."

Fiona places her hand on the top of her stomach and sighs. Fiona held her powers dear to her heart. Hearing that her child was taking away her strength scared her. "I never asked for this."

"There is no turning back now."
