Six ✝️
3 days later
(Josh's pov)
It is December 21st, 4 days till Christmas, and the day of Midnight Mass had finally come. Even though the event does not start till 8:00pm, I still couldn't help but wake up bright and early. I was going to hear my beautiful boyfriend sing tonight, and I could not be more excited.
Getting out of bed and stretching my legs, I looked over to my phone that vibrated on the nightstand. I'm sure it was Tyler sending me a good morning message.
However, that wasn't the case this time. The message was from my mom, who told me she hoped to see me at Midnight Mass. I replied and told her I would be there. I checked my messages to see if Tyler sent me anything, but unfortunately there wasn't any. He usually was the early bird, but I guess he's sleeping in.
I made my bed, then went downstairs to make myself a nice cup of coffee. Placing the coffee pod into my keurig coffee maker, I could instantly smell the sweet mocha aroma from the steam.
Once it was done, I poured a few drops of Coffee Mate french vanilla creamer into the cup, mixed it, then went over into my little living room to drink it while admiring the Christmas tree.
Since there was so much time, I decided to watch a Christmas movie on my TV, which was a Hallmark Christmas movie called, "Christmas Next Door".
Although Tyler has yet to come to my apartment, we watched this movie together in his bedroom with nothing but pajama pants and a t-shirt while drinking cups of cocoa.
"Yes, Tyler and I are very clever in respecting our choice to remain virgins until we get married. Tyler is pure, as he should be, and I will do the same.
As I watched the movie, my phone rang. I already knew who was calling me. When I looked to see who it was, it was my sweet Tyler. I answered the phone; hearing his beautiful voice.
"Hey, my love!" Tyler cried. "Tonight's the night!"
I was momentarily stunned by what he had said.
"Isn't that a reference from Dexter, babe?"
Tyler was confused.
"Um, I don't know. I've never seen the show. Have you?"
I nodded.
"Yes, but only a few episodes, but that's beside the point. You are going to sing tonight!"
Tyler chuckled.
"Baby, I was just about to say that."
"Are you excited?" I asked.
"I am a little nervous." Tyler replied. "I'm singing for the first time for Father Thaddeus, and I know many people who have come from his previous parish will hear it too."
"Don't worry, my love. You will get through it, and I will be right there the whole time."
As I mentioned before, Tyler was used to singing in front of me, but now he was to sing in front of hundreds of people, but I know in my heart that his voice will touch the lives of many.
"Thank you, darling." Tyler replied. "I love you."
I smiled.
"I love you too, baby."
We finished off the phone conversation discussing Christmas and the movie I was watching, which was left with laughter and joy. We promised we would see each other before Mass begins. Ending the phone call, I laid against the couch and sighed in contentment.
Tonight was going to be a magical night for myself and for Tyler.

Around 6:00 in the evening, I got into the shower and cleaned myself up. When I finished, I went into my closet to pick out an outfit to wear for Midnight Mass.
After searching, I came across a black long sleeve buttoned up shirt with sparkling polkadots. Looking at it for a brief moment, I realized this was the perfect shirt to wear for the service.
Placing the shirt on my bed, I also found a pair of black ripped up jeans and black shoes. I put on the whole outfit then went over to look at myself in the mirror. I smiled at the sight of myself.
"You look good, Joshua Dun."
By the time I was done getting ready, it was 7:00pm. Mass was starting in an hour, and I quickly got out the door in order to get there in time. The church was 20 minutes away, which wouldn't take too long.
By the time I got to St. Mary's, the parking lot was packed. Luckily, Jordan was outside the parish and pointed out a spot for me to park at.
Thank God for smart little brothers.
I got out of my car and with Jordan at the entrance of the parish.
"When did you guys get here?" I asked.
"6:30." Jordan replied. "Abby is in the choir. We accompanied her to practice."
"Is Tyler here?"
"Yes, he's here. There's a lot of people in there."
"I can deal with that."
Jordan and I went inside the parish. Upon entering the foyer, we were overwhelmed by the amount of people in attendance. It seemed like Midnight Mass had become the most important event of the year.
Jordan and I walked through the crowd to find our family in a pew towards the front. My mom was speaking to Miss Rosario Byrne, a parishioner who works closely with our family. She is also a friend of Tyler.
Jordan took a seat with Ashley and dad. I sat down with them, but I wanted to find out where Tyler's family was. Taking a short look around the parish, I caught a glimpse of the family sitting a few rows back from the right side pews.
Looking back at Jordan, I pointed him out to Tyler's little brother, Zack.
"Why don't you go see him?"
Jordan agreed; leaving his spot to go talk to Zack.
Ashley was distracted by the conversation she was having with dad, so I took the opportunity to walk over to see Tyler's family as well.
When I arrived, I sat down with Tyler's sister and youngest brother, Madison and Jay.
"Hey, guys."
"Hi, Josh." Jay replied.
"Hey." Madison added.
"Where's Tyler?"
"He's on the stage with the choir." Jay said. "A parishioner told us he's the final act in the service."
When I heard that, I got really excited. Tyler's angelic voice was going to complete the service, and I could not be any more happier.
Looking over to the stage, I could see Tyler seated on the front row of the choir with all the other singers that were participating. He was dressed in a white polo with blue jeans.
He looked like an angel, with such beauty and grace. He was my boyfriend, and my true love.
When we saw each other, we both exchanged a smile, but Tyler silently gestured to me to meet him in a nearby hallway by the stage. It was unusual, but I went along with it.
I got up and maneuvered around the crowds of people to get to the hallway. When there was no one in sight, Tyler and I shared a quick but passionate kiss.
"Make me proud, my love." I told him.
The boy threw his arms around me.
"I'm nervous, Josh."
"Why is that, dear?"
"This is my first performance, and I'm afraid I'm going to mess up."
I cupped Tyler's cheeks.
"Don't be nervous, my love. When the time comes, just look at me and pretend I'm the only one watching. It'll all work out."
Tyler was very anxious, but he agreed with my advice. He looked down to the floor and nodded.
"Okay, Josh."
I smiled; leaning up and kissing Tyler's forehead.
"I love you."
Tyler smiled back.
"I love you too."

When the organ music began to play, Tyler and I separated. He took his seat on the stage, and I made my way back to my family's pew and sat with them.
Once everyone was seated, Father Thaddeus appeared on stage with a couple of altar boys behind him. He went over and kissed the altar, dismissed the boys to their seats, and approached the podium.
When he did, we stood up from our seats.
"The Lord be with you." Father Thaddeus said.
"And with your spirit." We replied.
We began Midnight Mass with a word of prayer, then took our seats and proceeded.
The service started with a reading from the book of Luke, which was read by Miss Byrne. It was about the birth of Jesus. Once it was finished, Father Thaddeus returned to the podium.
"Let us celebrate Jesus' birth with dignity and grace, for it is by His blood that we are saved."
Father Thaddeus raised his hands into the air.
"Have mercy on us, O Lord."
"For we have sinned against you."
"Show us, O Lord, your mercy."
"And grant us your salvation."
"Now, my dear brothers and sisters, let us continue the service with our choir singing a very special song."
Father Thaddeus stepped off the stage, and the choir began to sing the hymn, "Angels We Have Heard On High." During the performance, Abby had a solo, which was lovely to hear. It brought tears to my parents' eyes.
After the song was over, another parishioner came up and read from Matthew 2, which talked about the arrival of the wisemen. Then, there were a few more songs by the choir.
A few hours later, we were closing in the candlelight vigil. Father Thaddeus came to the podium, with the altar boys and Miss Byrne beside him.
"And now, may we present our dearest member of the parish, Tyler Joseph, who will perform the final hymn, "O Holy Night."
When Tyler's name was called, the congregation clapped. I wanted to stand up and cheer, but I kept my composure.
Gracefully like a feather, Tyler stood from his seat and walked over to the band section of the stage, where he stood before a microphone. Still feeling a bit nervous, Tyler looked at me and I gave him a nod; reminding him of what I told him earlier.
Once everything was ready, the guitarist in the band played an introductory tune, then Tyler began to sing.
(Start song)
Oh, holy night, the stars are brightly shining
It is the night of our dear Savior's birth
Long lay the world in sin and error pining
'Til He appeared and the soul felt its worth
A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn
Fall on your knees
Oh, hear the angel voices
Oh, night divine
Oh, night when Christ was born
Oh, night divine
Oh, night, oh, night divine
As the band began to play with the choir in the background, Tyler's voice grew stronger, and tears streamed down my cheeks.
Ooh ooh!
Holy, holy is the Lord!
We sing holy, holy is the Lord!
Fall on your knees!
Oh, hear the angel voices!
Oh, night divine!
Oh, night when Christ was born!
Oh, night divine!
Oh, night, oh, night divine!
