Wrong Moves

I knew we couldn't trust him! I knew when he came he was not going to leave easily! Going back to Mary's house I had little time to ponder further on what had just happened. When I got there Mary was in the living room, used tissues littering the floor. She was sobbing even when I took the seat next to her.

Knowing the question wouldn't help her I asked. "What's wrong Mary?"

Moments later her sobbing turned to sniveling but enough for her to speak coherently. "They, whoever they were, took James. He was... trying to protect me." Her sobs returned and she leaned on me. At first I couldn't understand why she was so upset about him but her next statement made it clear. "He was going to me on my first date. It was supposed to be a surprise but when he asked where I like to eat at I knew."

By now we were at the same point where we were thinking the same thing. We need to rescue James. The conclusions we came to as a plan were far from each other. My point of view was I would go back for Grant and beg for forgiveness and in return he would bring me to where James was. Take him during the night and never see that pack again. Mary's plan was a little too far fetched to border on stupid.

"We could call the police and have them search the forest to find him. The police know what they're doing and will not stop until he's found."

"Yeah, but you're missing a key fact in your plan. What if when they find them the pack decides to wolf out? What if the pack moves out of the county? What if they find James but it's too late? It's too risky and could end up revealing our secret to the world, not to mention I would have to leave you again. My plan makes sure my secret is safe and that James should make it home. For now let me see how my plan works out and if by the end of the week I don't return with James send your search party after us." Mary nodded in agreement. So this would be all up to me now, and I cannot fail Mary.

By dawn of the next day I track Grant back to the pack. Somehow they don't seem surprised to see me back after my banishment. Overall the pack was as it was when I left it. Once I step across this boundary I know there will be no turning back. All actions I take now I have already made myself aware of and will deal with. Even if it warrants the ultimate sacrifice.
