He's an ass man
    Joe is 33, alone, only a high school diploma, and half his life having passed him by. Seventeen years ago he got a girl pregnant. Two months after his birthday he became a father, his son having been born. He'd cradled the child, made funny faces, cried while his baby did the same, picked up a nicotine habit, and began nightly screaming matches with his girlfriend. Became a villain to her family and his own. The baby didn't see him as such, not a villain but not a comforting person. The way he'd scream, cry when left alone, smell of smoke.
    At this point he missed it. Well, not really. Only the child he'd left to a girl far too young along with most of his responsibilities.
    The proceeding years were filled with booze, sex, weed, and two years of collage before he dropped out. Not that he doesn't do the first three anymore, it's just that it's different, even though it's always been to numb himself. At first it was to dull out those thoughts. Not think of him, everyone who he'd disappointed, try and get back his freedom he'd lost through fatherhood.
    It's regret now. That's what he dulls.
    It's regret that got him boozey enough to try and find his son online, get a ticket back to his home town, and pack bags before sobbing in the shower.
Joe is going to go and do the second dumbest thing he's ever done, go and meet his son.
