Drawing is fun pt.2

because of a virus that will kill everyone in the world ever (except for those loyal to the banana gods) i have been locked in my room with school school and more school to do except this time its all online. yippee

anyway with nothing better to do and with school poking at me with every waking moment, i chased away the boredom by doing one thing:

if you think thats writing please leave. We do not tolerate actual literary competence in this space thank you very much

no they're all drawings. Drawings that i accidentally turned into a comic.

how in the heckerooni bananerhoomi do you "accidentally" turn drawings into a comic

well.... that's what I'm here for, bananalings

so one day, many weeks ago, I was sitting in my biology class, pretty bored because my teacher thought that fearmongering was a better way to spend an hour and fifteen minutes than to actually teach biology. I decided to doodle in my notebook (as you normally do when you're bored and cant be bothered to actually study come on I'm not Einstein guys) and lo and behold, this character was born:

Then as I sit on my car, waiting to pick up my brother from school, I draw some more in my notebook, and imagining this character in a short little sketch that had been going around in a loop in my head the entire day. So I decide to draw that to get it out before I forget:

A few weeks later I'm sitting in my room and I see a whole stack of xerox colored paper that had been sitting in a neglected pile for years

I decide, well why not draw on it, it's not like I'll be able to buy an actual sketchbook any time soon lol

So taking a pencil I continue drawing this different character after watching an episode of teen titans:

You can obviously see the inspiration even if they're not very good drawings

Then like about a week ago, I decide to give these characters (and more) names because why not (big mistake) and made these character spoofs for no big reason:

Q: how to draw in pen?
A: lol dont

My favorite character is probably the bananer. And I decide why not make all of these characters apart of my banana empire. They will come to live one day if the banana overlords grants that blessing.

Except Todd. We can't have people with actual brain cells living. (I'll probably do an official irl face claim one day for these characters idk)

Then completely unrelated to the banana empire I make comics.

Will I publish? Ha no. The "plot" is not very well written and the ones I drew in pen when I ran out of pencil lead aren't very good. So you don't need to know what's written in my alien cursive script.

Anyway, when I ran out of xerox I used index cards because we had run out of regular printer paper a while back. Wowie I could've used that to study all them muscles in the body but I think drawing is a better way to waste my time

I pantsed the entire plot of a comic and speed drew most of these drawings. How long did each take? Depends. Each drawing probably took an average of ten minutes, while some taking longer if the poses were weird or if I wanted to be extra and add more detail.

Now, a lot of people might think that I really didn't have to do this and that this is a colossal (hehgeddit) waste of paper and time and I'm probably destroying the environment to draw bad sketches for a stupid comic and that I should probably be more productive and start studying for my anatomy exam.

And those people would be right

Am I going to finish the comic? Probably not. I might draw a spoof for the bananer that I will probably post but I'm going to leave this comic series half baked. Drawing the same characters a hundred times over and over for a week straight gets boring after awhile.

Some more images that I like and also don't like. I drew way too much in seven days. I probably lost sleep but I honestly don't remember. Maybe that's a sign.
Eh it's fine

there are more I like, but wattpad has a stupid 20 image limit. I might do a part 3 and post the rest I really like

On an unrelated note, I want to talk more about drawing. I am thinking about taking a class soon in college one day just for fun. But for those who ask yes I taught myself to draw.
If you really like doing something, chances are you're going to put more effort into your work

Now what does self-taught mean? I drew a lot when I was a kid, like a lot of nine year olds but I never really got good at it until I took art class in middle school, where we mostly learned basic color theory and one point perspective. But I never actually implemented it in my drawings because I didn't like drawing still life. It's boring. So while I learned a lot, I didn't actually use it in my recreational art because I didn't think one point perspective had any use in drawing people

I was wrong

I didn't really get better until high school and started to seriously draw. I also started watching a ton of YouTube videos on drawing and how to be good at it and it wasn't until art class in high school that I actually started to get better a lot faster. Mostly because I was practicing everyday.

Q: But how do you get better bananaman? You might be asking.
A: I say practice like everyone else but also practice differently. Get out of your comfort zone and try new things don't be scared. You'll suck at first but with your amazing observational skills and intuition which I know you have, you can use the shriveled, neglected part of your brain called "creativity" to make your stuff look good over time.
If you want to get better at shading your cartoons, take inspiration from real life. Take an object (preferably a banana), place it under a lamp, and just LOOK at it. Really look at the shadows and highlights. See how the highlights and shadows move as you move your object. Look how they change the color of the object.
Then draw it to perfection works every time I think

Q: how do I draw people tho still life be boring
A: see my previous question. I saw a pretty good improvement of my people art once I started taking anatomy and physiology. Do you need to take A&P to get good at drawing people? no. But take inspiration from real life and really put into practice.
A specific example? Go to google and look up the human skeleton which is basically the outline of the human body. Copy it down to perfection while using your amazing observational skills to note how anatomy works and how things move and how big things are relative to the human body. There's a reason why our arms bend one way and not the other. figure it out
Then get a picture of the muscular system. The models sometimes use male bodies because women have boobs and those get in the way of important big boi muscles like the pectoralis major(wow I'm smert). But everything and all the reference points are basically the same. Copy it down. Trace if you want but try to do it while eyeballing it.
Art requires observation so if you can't observe idk what to say. Just sit down and notice things I guess it's really not that hard.

Either that or watch YouTube videos they explain it much better than I ever could.

Q: but banana girl! Art is subjective if I want to draw squiggly lines as arms and call it art I can
A: ok you can geez whatever makes you happy. But if you want to draw something resembling something humanoid it's better to learn the rules of art and anatomy. Learn how to draw realistically then break those rules and draw however you want to draw ig

I spent way too much time writing this. Honestly I actually really like drawing so if anyone wants to see a collection of art and maybe some anatomy lessons then just ask and poof I'll do a fairy godmother and make it happen ok
Cool
