a man has no name
Joanna sat on the bed of her chambers – her grandfather deciding be merciful unchained the shackles from her wrists but her room was guarded at all costs. Joanna didn't mind – all she could do was sleep and as strange as it may sound even as prisoner it felt good to be able to rest. Laying in her bed dressed in a gown she felt like herself again – the girl she was before the war. She noticed the change there was in her. She was more confident but that always scared her. She wanted to stay innocent for as long as possible. Her greatest fear in life was becoming her mother.
Of course she loved her mother but she didn't want to be as cold and vindictive as Cersei. Many of Cersei's traits wounded up being in Joffrey. Sometimes her mothers glare would scare her. Joanna didn't know what Tywins plans were for her but one thing she was most assured of is that he wouldn't kill her. Tywin is too proud of a man to kill off his own family and even at a young age she could tell that the family name meant more to him than anything in the world.
Joanna's eyes fluttered open as the morning sun beamed into the room. Sitting up she found her body tucked under the furs. The door opened and it was Arya. Quickly she rushed to close the door. Joanna stood from her bed and immediately wrapped her arms around the young girl.
"Thank goodness, you're alright." She sighed of relief. Arya clung to Joanna's body. Even though they never got the chance to know each other that well in Winterfell Arya knew that she could trust Joanna. She was the closest thing to bringing her back to Robb and her mother.
"Me, I thought he'd kill you for fighting for us." Joanna laughed at the young girls concern
"Don't worry, its gonna take a lot more to get rid of me." The two girls released as Arya picked up the empty platter of food.
"Are you safe? Are you being feed properly? Where's Sansa?" Joanna questioned the young girl immediately. Aryas face grew pale at the mention of Sansa. She hadnt looked back after escaping Kings Landing but that did not mean she regret leaving her sister behind.
"She's still in the Red Keep. There was an ambush on my fathers men and we got separated. I had to make a run out of the castle but I didn't have enough time to find her."
"Oh Arya-"
"It's fine. I know Robb will get her back, right?"
"Of course." Joanna swiftly placed a hand over Aryas mouth. She stood farther away from the door but could hear heavy footsteps passing her room. She looked alarmed to Arya. She recognized those heavy footsteps- the mountain. Joanna had notice that every morning he would pass her chambers three times before nightfall – for whatever reason she did not know, but she dreaded in ever finding out.
"I don't know how or when but I promise Ill get you back to your brother but promise me you wont speak to anyone. How sure are you that no one here recognizes you. I heard a few of Jaimes men camped here?" She whispered
"No one knows who I am. I dont think they recognize me out of a dress and long hair." Arya confirmed
"Good. Keep a low profile, do what Tywin tells you and make sure that you don't get seen with me too often Arya. No one can know who you are or that we know each other." Arya quickly nodded her head as she exited the room. Joanna could feel in the pit of her stomach her nerves were tightening. She looked to the barred window in her room. Overlooking the ground her eyes met with a strange man. He wore the Lannister armour and had long red hair with a single white stripe in the hair. He smirked to her before walking away.
Joanna was not surprised at all to her grandfathers request that she be seated in her chambers that night. If anything she dreaded it. Opening the door she stood still in her tracks when her eyes met with none other than Littlefingers. His devious smirk plastered on his face when he saw the princess
"Seems like your plans are all falling into place my lord. You've successfully brought back our beloved princess now only the return of Ser Jaime awaits." He stated as he exited the room. Joanna took seat across the head of the table. Her grandfather too busy with notes to take notice of her. Joanna bit on her fingernails as she noticed Arya pouring a glass of wine
"Stop that." Tywin ordered not looking up from his work. I could never understand as a child why you felt the need to bite your nails – you realise how unhealthy that is for you. Joanna brought down her hand as she decided to sit on top of her hands. Tywin looked up but remained quiet. He analysed her. Everyday as she grew older her face gradually became more than Cersei but even as a child when she was caught biting her nails her blue eyes would turn doe eyed and shed look so much like his wife.
"I must applaud your strategic mind. Your first battle and I heard you were responsible for cutting down half of our men. Jaime did one thing right and that was training you." Joanna didn't respond – in all honesty she didn't know how to respond. Tywin was not a man that would hand out compliments easily.
"Who do I fear this is going to end up as yet another lesson in how your family has disappointed you?" She asked unamused. Tywins face remained stoic. He nodded his head to Arya signalling her to leave.
"You've grown to be arrogant – too arrogant for my liking."
"Oh well, would you rather have me be the silent and perfect princess that –" Tywin slammed his fist against the table knocking over the glass of wine. Joanna internally jumped, even when he was angered she still refused to show fear. She needed to show him that she was not the perfect princess who smiled and waved anymore but a woman who could stand her ground.
"I assume you want to know why I'm fighting for the Starks."
"Oh spare me the detail of your love affair with the Stark boy." Tywin rolled his eyes as he walked towards the fire place
"Do you have any idea the repercussions you have caused this family? The humiliation – the threat?" Joanna crossed her arms as she scoffed
"What threat? Honestly you and Uncle Jaime are so clouded by your self-entitled –"
"ENOUGH!" Tywin yelled. Joanna flinching at the sudden action. She was lucky enough to be spared her grandfathers temper – anyone knew it was a sign of danger when Tywin would raise his voice
"You have caused enough damage to this family! You will be sent back to Kings Landing where you will be expected to marry Loras Tyrell. Its already been arranged." Joannas face distorted and she could feel her nails dig into her skin – drawing the blood in her hands
"Loras Tyrell? Did you or Joffrey make this decision on behalf of me. What about mother?!" She yelled, standing up to kick over the chair. Tywin remained calm
"What your mother think does not marry. You will do your duty after your betrayal to this family."
"I am the princess! YOU CAN'T SELL ME OFF LIKE A PIECE OF MEAT!"
"YOUR'E MY GRANDDAUGHTER! YOU WILL MARRY LORAS TYERELL!" AND THAT WILL BE MY FINAL SAY! YOU HAVE BROUGHT ENOUGH SHAME TO THIS FAMILY! Tywin countered rendering her silent. Joanna stormed out of her grandfathers chambers only to be met with one of the guards.
He gripped her by the arm as they walked through the corridors but they werent going in the direction of her sleeping chambers. He pulled into a dark corner of the castle that seemed to be unguarded and unattended.
"Excuse me but what –"
"A man has been asked to save you." Joanna realised it was the same guard she saw. The one with the white streak in his hair.
"Who are you?"
"A man has no name but serves purpose. A girl has requested that these be returned to you." He unseathed his sword but Joanna soon realised it was hers - the one she claimed from Jaime. Joanna held it to her chest missing the feel of the blade in her hand. The man handed her dagger she too lost
"Thank you but I still have questions."
"There is no time. The girl asked that you be vigilant. You will be set free soon." That was the last he spoke to her. Joanna managed to hide the sword and dagger as they travelled to her room again but still she had no idea who the mysterious man was. When she arrived in her room all she found was an empty cup. She picked it up and could feel at the bottom a piece of parchment stuck to it.
