Chapter Twelve
Hana's p.o.v.
Damn. Tsukishima is really strong. I keep using my Shikai and he keeps dodging it. This was going no where. And with the Captain injured, I can't stand against him. I panted as I felt my energy slowly fade. He chuckles." Giving up already?" He asked, letting his Zanpakuto rest on his shoulder. I glared at him." Not a chance." I said. He smirks." Good. I hate to end this little game of ours." He says. He flash steps and I look around." You're quite entertaining. Too bad you're the enemy. I would love to keep that pretty face of yours as my trophy." I gasped and turned around to see him with his sword raised. I blocked it in time before it slashed me. I went back a few feet. I was slightly panting." Oh no. Is little bunny getting tired?" He asked with a smirk. I scoffed." Of course not!" I yelled, running toward him. He blocked my attacks, making me angrier and angrier. His smirk widened. I blinked, confused. I swung my Zanpakuto at him and he blocked it and twisted it. I gasped as my Zanpakuto was sent flying out of my hands. I glared at him." It seems you are defenseless." He says, smugly." Hadō #12: Fushibi!" I yelled. An explosion engulfed around him. I jumped back, avoiding the explosion. Once the smoke cleared, I looked around. I gasped when he suddenly appeared in front of me. He slashed my right side to my left shoulder. I fell back. I whimpered as I tried to get up. I screamed when he stomped his foot on my wound." Such a shame our little game had to end." He says, raising his sword. I closed my eyes and waited for impact. I heard him gasp. I opened my eyes and gasped. He had a giant hole in his chest. I looked behind him and saw my Captain standing, holding his side while the other hand was open. Tsukishima stepped backwards." How could this...?" He questioned."....Ah....I see....You grabbed some of your blossoms and waited for the right moment...." He said, slowly disappearing." Well played." He said before disappearing into dust. Captain stumbled and fell to one knee. I got up, ignoring the pain and ran to him." Captain!" I said. I kneeled next to him." Are you okay?" I asked." He..didn't try anything did he?" He asked, ignoring my question. I smiled a little, shaking my head. Still looking out for me I see." No. He just put me in a dungeon." I said." That's good...." He said." Captain?!" I said. He's losing to much blood." Edgar! Can you take us to Squad Four?" I asked, looking at the little jellyfish next to me. He smiled." Yeah!" He said, I held onto his head. Once he turned big, I put my Captain's head on my lap." Let's go!" Edgar said, moving fast. Hold on, Captain. You'll be alright. I promise.
I paced around, waiting for Captain Unohana to tell me how my Captain was doing. I had got stitches and was bandaged." Hana!" I looked up and saw Rangiku and Captain Hitsugaya." Are you Alright?" Captain Hitsugaya asked, referring to my bandages." I'm fine. It's Captain Kuchiki who was worst." I said. I began pacing around until Rangiku stopped me by holding my shoulders." He'll be fine. He's in good hands." I sighed." I know." I said, hugging myself. I began to pace again as Captain Hitsugaya and Rangiku stayed with me. The door opened and I looked up." How is he?" Captain Hitsugaya asked. Captain Unohana smiles." He's completely alright. He's resting now." I sighed in relief." Didn't I fell You that you should be resting too?" Captain Unohana asked with a smile. I shivered." W-Well I was w-worried." I said. She chuckles." What?" I asked." You really like him don't you?" I blushed madly." W-what?! H-he's my Captain! I-it's only reasonable that I'd be w-worried for my Captain!" I said. Rangiku laughed." You're so cute when you lie." I sighed, my face feeling on fire." Can we see him?" I asked." As much as I wish you could, He needs plenty of rest. Once he is awake, I'll tell you." I nodded." Alright." I said. This is my fault. I knew I shouldn't have trusted Tsukishima when he first came up to me. Because of me, Captain Kuchiki's hurt. Rangiku must've sense my distress." Hey, how about we go to the World of the Living and get you some ice cream? You look like you need it." She said. I sighed and smiled weakly." Thanks." She put her arm around me while I hugged myself. We walked down the hall to get ready.
I stared at the icy treat in front of me. It was melting in my hands." This is my fault." I muttered. I suddenly got hit on the head. I whimpered as I held my head, dropping my treat." Ow! Rukia!" She held a pissed expression." Stop blaming yourself. You had no control over it." She said. I opened my mouth but she glared at me. I frowned." Fine." I said. She smiled." Good." I swear dropped. She's scary when she's pissed. Maybe it's a Kuchiki thing? Rangiku smiled." How about we go to the festival?" She asked. I smiled." Thanks But I think I'll pass. I'm getting pretty tired and I'm sure Captain Unohana needs to change my bandages." They nodded." We'll bring something back for you." I smiled." Thanks Guys." I said. I'm glad I have such good friends. It was getting a little late and I wanted to get into my normal clothes instead of human clothes. Once I got back home, I froze in front of Captain Kuchiki's office. I frowned before walking in.
"You did his paperwork?" Captain Ukitake and Captain Kyōraku asked. I sat with them on the porch with the Seaweed Ambassador in my arms. I wanted to chat with them to calm my mind and have tea. I nodded, hugging the plush tighter. Captain Ukitake smiles." You must really care for him." I nodded again." He helped me....He never thought low of me...its only right for me to be worried since he did some many things for me." I said." Oh yeah." Captain Kyōraku said, tilting his hat up." You didn't talk to anyone when we got ya back from Aizen. Not even the old man." I smiled at his nickname for my grandfather." Byakuya was the only one you could talk to." Captain Ukitake said." You know, you remind me of him when he was young." I looked up at the two." Really?" They nodded with a smile." He was very determined to get whatever he wanted. Whether he was tired or not." Captain Ukitake said. I blinked." He had a short fuse when he was a kid." Captain Kyōraku said, sighing with a smile." That's right. Yoruichi always teased him and stole his hair tie." Captain Ukitake said." She would play games him, like "tag" with their flash step." The two explained. I looked down at the plushie." So what changed?" I asked. The two looked at each other with a sad look." Well, Byakuya wasn't always this serious. He did have a caring heart at the time." Captain Ukitake said. I blinked." What happened?" I asked." He lost his wife." I looked at Captain Kyōraku." I didn't know he was married." I said." You know Rukia right?" I nodded." He was married to her older sister, Hisana." Captain Kyōraku explained." She died of a sickness after four years they've been married." I felt my heart break." Hisana left Rukia when she was just a baby. She couldn't take care of her because of her sickness." Captain Ukitake said." So before she died, she made Byakuya promise to find Rukia and take her as his sister and not tell her about Hisana being her older sister." Captain Kyōraku said. I looked down. I felt tears well up in my eyes. That's so sad." So...Who is Hisana? Where did she come from?" I asked, looking at my plushie." Hisana was from the streets." I looked up at them." He married her not caring where she was from?" They nodded." He must've really loved her." I said." That's probably why he cares for you." I blinked." Why?" Captain Ukitake smiles." Because you remind him of her." My eyes widened." Really?" They nodded." He didn't care what happened to you or where you come from. He still treated you like a normal person." Captain Kyōraku said. I looked down at my tea, looking back at my reflection. I stood up." Thank you for the talk." They smiled." No problem." They said. I bowed to them before taking off.
I wondered through the night, hugging the plushie to my chest." That's probably why he cares for you. Because you remind him of her." Their words kept repeating through my head. There's no way I would remind him of her. She was probably beautiful and kind. I'm just a mess, an impure, clumsy, mess. I do nothing but weigh people down. How am I the Head Masters granddaughter? He's strong. While I'm not. I jumped when I heard the clap of thunder. I looked up and saw it starting to rain. I guess I should hurry. I began making my way home. I sighed. "I'm not worthy to serve under Captain Kuchiki." I muttered to myself. I stopped when I get the rain stop pouring on me. I looked up and saw my grandfather holding an umbrella over my head. Grand-père..." I said." Now My Dear, Tell me what has you so glum." He says. I look down." I feel like I'm weighing Captain Kuchiki down. I mean, I got kidnapped twice, almost got killed a number of times, and now he's hurt." I said." My Dear, why do you think he became a Captain?" I looked up at him." You think it's because he wanted to have an easy life? He did it because he wanted to protect people. He knew what he was getting into. And I don't think he doubts it." I blinked. I didn't say anything." Now my dear, let's go get you warmed up." He said." Yeah..." I said as we walked home.
