Prologue
A scream rang in her ears, it was all she heard. Horrified, pained, and depressed, is what it sounded like. She took a moment to realize, it was her scream. The cat in front of her gave her a lopsided smile, then tumbled to the ground in a coughing fit. Blood spluttered from their mouth, staining the surrounding grass.
"C...Crowdust? N-no. No!" She cried, carefully pressing on his bleeding throat. "Come on! Stop already!"
"I love you," Crowdust paused, chuckling when more blood gushed out of his wound, "But...you're going to have to let me go." The she-cat shook her head violently.
"Sorry to interrupt this beautiful moment, but I'm pretty sure he's dead."
The she-cat looked at Crowdust. His eyes were glazed, staring at the sky. She growled, digging her claws into the dirt.
"YOU KILLED HIM!" She screeched, launching herself at the tom. He quickly dodged her attack, then flung himself onto her back, piercing her skin as he clung on.
"Actually, you did. If you had just moved quicker, he'd still be alive." He laughed.
She shook her back, thrashing around her attacker. Surprisingly, he still held on, and started to claw at her back with his hind paws. She yelped in pain, before throwing her self on the ground, rolling around until his claws left her back.
Then she had an idea. "You know, I bet Deerheart was crying for you to help her." The she-cat taunted, leaping to her paws. "In fact, I'm pretty sure she was yelling out your name, or at least, trying to." She smirked when his disappeared and was replaced with a snarl.
"You'll pay for bringing her up." He growled, once again launching himself at her. She slid under him, raking her claws across his belly. He howled in pain, before growling at her.
"Make this easier won't you, just let me kill you!" He hissed, scratching her muzzle. She winced as blood squirted into her eye.
"Deerheart wouldn't want this." She smirked. He growled once more, scratching at her face again. She staggered back, a growl rumbling in her throat.
"Blazefall?! Addertail, what are you doing to her?!" The she-cat looked at the cat that called her name. Big mistake. Addertail clawed her left eye, making Blazefall yowl as her vision blurred. She frantically looked for Addertail, before being squished to the ground. She felt a paw passing on the back of her neck, claws starting to push through her skin.
"Get off!" The weight was suddenly removed, as was Addertail in her sight line. She looked around with her right eye. What she saw made her smile. Addertail's left eye was also scratched, as was his right.
"Not fun having your eyes clawed out is it." Blazefall mocked. He launched himself at her, before being knocked out of the air by the other she-cat. Blazefall laughed, then made her way to Addertail, her smirk never faltering. She placed her paw on the back of his neck, pressing hard. She dug her claws into his neck until a sickening crack was made.
"Why'd you kill him? Blizzardstar's not going to happy that you killed his son." Blazefall looked at the she-cat.
"Honeyfoot, you have no faith in me. Anyway...he killed...Crowdust...so I had a reason to." She stated, looking at the ground. Honeyfoot glanced at Crowdust's lifeless body. Her eyes widened when she realized how he died.
"Oh." Blazefall chuckled sadly at her fellow warrior's reaction. "That was supposed to be for me." She meowed, motioning towards his neck.
"Anyway, we should probably take him back to camp, my eye is probably infected." Honeyfoot laughed, then grabbed Crowdust's scruff, while Blazefall, slid under, some weight returning to her bloody back. She winced, but started to move with the tabby warrior, trying to avoid the stones poking from the ground.
"What are we going to do about that?" Honeyfoot asked, noddig at the slope in front of them.
"StarClan forgive me." Blazefall whispered, letting his body roll down the hill. "Now, we follow." She said, padding down. Honeyfoot followed, as she said, trotting slowly.
"Oh how I love dragging bodies to camp." Honeyfoot sang sarcastically. Blazefall chuckled as she threw Crowdust back on her back. Honeyfoot looked at her when she winced.
"Do you want me to take him?" The lighter tabby warrior asked, staring sincerely at her littermate.
"Would you mind?"
"Not at all."
"Great! Take him." Honeyfoot suppressed a chuckle at her sister's behaviour. She helped Crowdust onto her back, then set the pace back to camp. Blazefall followed with a relived look.
"Thank you."
"For what?"
"Taking him."
"To be honest, I thought you would insist on carrying your mate."
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"Whatever you want it to." Honeyfoot smirked. Blazefall muttered under her breath.
"Where have you two be-Blazefall! You have to see Specklenose right away!" Blazefall followed her mother, stealing a glance at Honeyfoot laying Crowdust on the ground in the center of camp. She chuckled to herself as her sister was tackled by her mate. "Take care of him Honeyfoot." She whispered.
