Chapter: 2
"I'm sorry, I was tired." Blazekit defended herself. Yet again the other two Queens were outside, so she was in the middle of getting scolded. For what? She'd forgotten already. To her surprise, and happiness, Crowkit had not uttered a squeak about her rant to her mother. To which, Blazekit will forever be grateful for. The tom-kit was actually trying to be around Blazekit more often, which she actually enjoyed, though it annoyed her mother at a great extent. Most of her attempts to keep Blazekit with her were in vain, as Crowkit came up with retaliating excuses for the ginger kit to join him.
"Do you hear me, Blazekit?" Suncloud suddenly snapped, taking Blazekit back to reality. Her mother's eyes burned with rage when she nodded her head blankly.
"I swear, when you become and apprentice, your going to leave this family. What kit ignores their mother? Honeykit wouldn't dare do such a thing!" She cried.
Blazekit looked at the ground, digging her claws in it's soft dirt. Honeykit was with the other kits outside, probably playing moss ball, or catch the tail, while her sister was in the nursery being held against her will, being yelled at for nothing. Blazekit inhaled sharply, then looked at her mother with a hint of defiance. It was rare that Blazekit was affected by her words now, considering she'd heard them almost her whole life. No one really cared, though, no one knew. Of course there cats who suspected it, like Crowkit and Dawnheart, but no cat actually knew. She was lost in thought again, before she was hit. She stumbled momentarily, before she placed a paw on her slightly bleeding, stinging cheek. Her mother must've unsheathed her claws a little.
Fox-heart.
It was true. Her mother was a fox-heart. She hated Blazekit for no reason. She heard that her grandmother, Rosefang was the same way with her and Dawnheart, but then wouldn't Suncloud know how it feels? Blazekit shook her head quickly, looking at her mother again.
"S-Suncloud. How...How dare you?" Dawnheart stared at her sister in disgust. "How dare you do this to your kit?" She asked, venom dripped from those words. Her face calm, but her eyes, a raging fire of fury that could never be put out. Suncloud looked like she was at a loss for words. Her eyes were looking at the ground but they were blank, as if she held no remorse of what she had done. Dawnheart quickly ran in front of Blazekit, despite her swollen belly, and glared at Suncloud.
"From this day forward, she will be my kit, you will have no say in what she does." She spat, looking at Blazekit with sympathy. Suncloud looked relieved. "Come Blazekit, let's go outside." Dawnheart smiled. Blazekit beamed, and followed her out of the nursery, forgetting about her cheek. The blood had dried and was barely noticeable anyway. She turned to talk to the Queen, but realized she was on her way to talk to Sharpstar.
"Hey Blazekit!" Blazekit turned to face Honeykit.
"O-oh, hey." She smiled. She couldn't remember the last time she talked to Honeykit. "Are you feeling better?" Honeykit asked, tilting her head.
"Um, yeah, I'm feeling great! My headaches gone and everything!" She lied. She didn't have a headache. That was yet another lie Suncloud had made for her.
"Blazekit!" She looked at the speckled tom-kit coming her way. Honeykit smiled and bounded away to join the other kits. "Blazekit, why aren't you in the nursery?" He joked. "Don't you have a headache?"
She shook her head. "I actually think I'm going to be Dawnheart's kit now." She said blankly, sitting, then wrapping her tail around her paws. His blue eyes widened.
"What?"
"Don't ask me, I don't know." She shook her head again. Dawnheart then appeared behind Blazekit, a kind smile on her face.
"Guess what Blazekit, I, am now your mother!" She said proudly. Her eyes lit up with determination. "And I'm going to try to be the best mother ever!" Mistyfur purred beside her. "Your going to have some serious competition there Dawnheart. I'm the best." She smirked. Blazekit rolled her eyes playfully before she was tackled to the ground.
"Come on Blazekit! You be EmberClan!" Crowkit smiled, placing a paw on her stomach. She felt a small purr of her own start to rise as she pushed back. She leapt on her friend, laughing as he tripped on his tail, stumbling back.
"Careful with your tail there." She teased. Only then had she realised the two Queens had went back to their rocks. Then again, she forgot she was fighting, and was once again pushed to the ground. "Hey no fair!" She laughed as Crowkit plopped on top of her. She noticed Suncloud watching her from the nursery entrance. She also saw Dawnheart glaring like there was not tomorrow. She sighed internally.
"So, because I clearly won, do you want to play moss ball?" Just as the words left his mouth, a moss ball flew over them. The other kits scrambled after it, almost stepping on the lonely two. "Or maybe we could just get Mousewing's tail, its really fast and pretty hard to catch." Crowkit crawled off of her, then smiled.
"Isn't Mousewing on a patrol?"
"Oh. Pinesnap's the next best!"
"He's out training Stormpaw with Adderpaw and Ivynose."
"Mouse-dung! Silverlily! She's right there!" He yelled pointing at the deputy. She was chatting with a warrior. I'm pretty sure her name's Turtleslip. Blazekit thought. "Okay, her tail it is." She chuckled as Crowkit gave a sigh of relief.
She followed his stalking stance as they gained on the silvery striped vine. Just as they were about to pounce, it moved. It moved high up where they couldn't reach it. As high as the sky. Crowkit huffed in disappointment. "There's more than one tail in camp." The she-kit chuckled at her den-mate's lack of determination. He rolled his eyes, but they suddenly sparked with mischief.
"If we attacked Badgerfern's tail, do you think we'd get away with it?"
