Chapter 36
Blaze woke up the next morning with a yawn and arms around her. She glanced up and saw Gar sleeping beside her in the hammock.
She smiled and relaxed, cuddling further into his warm body and closed her eyes, his soft snores lulling her back to sleep. He occasionally grumbled under his breath and tightened his grip around her.
Blaze sighed when obnoxious laughter sounded from the entrance of the tent. She should've known this momemt with Gar wasn't going to last.
Gar lifted his head, his red eyes drowsy but glaring daggers at Talim.
"Get out of here, or I'll chase you to the gates of heaven and lock you inside!" Gar snarled. Talim kept snickering, but was yanked away by someone. Gar watched him go with feral eyes.
When Talim was out of sight and earshot, Gar laid his head back down and his body relaxed. Blaze hadn't moved and he seemed to think she was still sleeping.
She risked a peak up at him and his red eyes were staring down at her. She blinked and looked away.
"Clawface wants to date the assault in three days." Gar blurted out. Blaze immediatelty returned her gaze to him.
"What? Three days? Has he?- are we?- did he think it through? Is he sure?" Blaze asked, her words stuttering and nervous. She hadn't realized how paniced she sounded, but apparently enough to make Gar hug her.
She was really surprised. It was a bit of an awkward hug, most of the uncertainty coming from Gar. He wasn't very good at comforting others. But for some reason it was working to help calm Blaze.
"Three days. Yes, my father has made plans, he has prepared the rebellion, and he has been thinking and plotting this with Mist and Basha since you were put in that chamber." Gar murmured the mouthful to answer all of Blaze's questions.
Blaze sighed, pulling out of the embrace and turned away from him. She could feel his eyes boring into the back of her head, a curious feeling drifting in the air that she knew was coming from Gar.
"I don't think I'm ready for this... Three days? What chance do I have? Mist and Basha trained their whole lives to kill Samael, I've only trained for a few years!" Blaze said, sitting up and crossing her arms, a far but fustrated look in her eyes that was staring out at the magma pools through the tent entrance. Gar stayed silent for a long time, making her grow anxious of how he felt on the situation.
"Gar, I-" She was cut off by the larger demon holding her chin and making her look at him. His ruby red eyes were staring so intensely, she thought he could see right through her. Something else was strange about this eye contact, it was like Blaze felt strength- not physical, but something more powerful- coming off of Gar and filling her.
When she realized what Gar was doing, just in this moment, she gently smiled at him, and he returned it, pulling her close and hugging her.
"Blaze, I love you. So does Inasa and Talim, you don't need to worry. We will always be by your side." Gar murmured, stroking her back with his head propped on top of hers. Blaze was speechless but had felt the emotion in everyone of Gar's words. He was right, Blaze was not alone.
Mist and Basha had eachother, and she had Gar, Inasa, and Talim. If she failed this battle, atleast she would die like her sisters- with someone she loved beside her until the end.
Now Blaze knew. She would not doubt or ponder any longer. She had accepted the possibility of death.
Blaze was ready to take on her father.
