Chapter 1

Blaze woke up the next morning in her bundle of leather scraps her mother had put together. She shut her mouth when she saw her mother sitting against the wall.

Dried blood was showing the path from a wound in her stomach down to the floor. Blaze looked around, then cautiously got out of the rags. She walked over to her mothers body.

"Mom?" Blaze asked and poked her shoulder. Her eyes weren't glowing their usual orange and her black hair was messy and unclean. Blaze felt hot firey tears brim her eyes at the sight of her mothers limb body.

"Mother?" She asked again, roughly shaking her mothers arm. There was no response. Blaze immediately took action and pulled the body under her mothers blanket. She covered her up and checked the locks and barricades.

The locks weren't locked and there was no forced entry. Blaze quickly tightened them up and made sure nothing could get in. Who ever killed her mother was either welcomed in, or had gotten her when she opened the door.

"I have no one now..." Blaze whispered, realization dawning on her young mind. Blaze climbed onto the roof and covered up the hole. She stumbled when she jumped to another roof top.

"I only have one person." Blaze muttered. She was going to see her father. Blaze could see him on his throne. No one was around and Blaze was appreciative of that, no one would watch her father kill his only child if he refused to see she was his daughter.

She dropped down into the opening and on instinct, hid in the shadows like her mother taught her.

"Come out." Samael demanded, seeing the little girl. Blaze took a deep breath and stepped out.

Samael ran his eyes over her form. She seemed familiar for some reason.

"Why are you here child? Shouldn't your mother be watching you?" He asked. Blaze faced him bravely.

"My mother died in the night. I know something no other demon knows. You're my father Samael." Blaze said. Samael stared at her in silence, his gaze scaring her, but she hid it very well.

"I have no children." Samael finally said. Blaze growled at him.

"You know very well you do. My mother told me who my father was. I'm Blaze, daughter of Lila. You're my father. Don't deny it Samael." Blaze said. Samael raised an eyebrow of interest, she did get the name right of a demon female he had mated with a few years back.

"Prove to me you're my daughter." Samael challenged. Blaze crossed her arms, her orange eyes glowing.

 "How?" She asked.

"Show me the power you inherited demon child. If you're my daughter, you surely would have gained an ability of mine." Samael snickered. Blaze growled at him. She did have a power, something she was sure she had never seen Samael use.

Blaze walked over to his throne and reached a hand out above the lava he had surrounding it. Her eyes glowed stronger, Samael leaned over to watch her. The lava grew and snaked its way up to her palm, when it touched, Blaze did not cry or scream in pain.

Samael was surprised to see a child, his child, using such powers.

"Impressive.. then it must be true that you're my daughter..." Samael murmured half to himself.

"You have much to do then." Samael continued, he flicked his tail up. A demon ran over.

"Escort this child to Katerin. Have her made some new clothing. After that, take her to the barracks." Samael ordered. The guard nodded and grabbed Blaze's arm roughly. The lava dropped down back into its small river as Blaze was pulled away.
