Dallon swiped aimlessly through apps as Breezy drove down the freeway to where their parents expected dinner. He kept finding himself back on Instagram, looking at this "Beebo" guy's page. There was something about him that kept drawing Dallon back.
"Who the fuck is Beebo?" Breezy asked, peaking over at Dallon's phone when they were rested at a stoplight.
Dallon snapped his head up from his phone. "What?"
"The guy you're going googly eyed over." She said, pointing to his phone.
Dallon laughed, nervously. "Oh... I don't know."
A smirk crossed Breezy's lips as the light turned green. "A potential?"
"Potential what?" Dallon asked, scratching the back of his head.
"Dally, don't play dumb." Breezy laughed, "You've got that look like you've locked on target. Why don't you talk to him?"
"Breeze, he could be a serial killer or something." Dallon said, shaking his head as he clicked to his home screen. "Besides, he doesn't even list his location."
"So, you checked?"
"Breeze!"
"You opened the door!" She giggled, "I think it would be nice for you to find another guy... I mean, after Josh-"
"Can we not talk about Josh?" Dallon asked, almost silently.
Josh had been Dallon's first boyfriend back in highschool. Things had been fantastic between them; Dallon had felt so comfortable for the first time about his sexuality when he was with Josh. Sadly, as time moved forward, people move apart. Quite literally. Josh had to move right after graduation, and had decided to leave his relationship with Dallon behind as well. Dallon hadn't been in a relationship since.
"I'm sorry, Dally..." Breezy spoke with soft sincerity, glancing over at him before bringing her eyes back to the road. "I just meant that... You're twenty one. It's been so long since high school!"
Dallon shrugged, looking down at his legs. It may have been a long time, but Dallon wasn't sure if he was ready for things to change from what they were now. Things had happened so naturally with Josh, he wasn't sure how to start a new relationship.
"Just think about it?" Breezy only spoke up again once they had parked in the lot for some nice restaurant that Dallon had failed to look at the name of. She reached out and tilted his chin up and in her direction before she offered him a reassuring smile.
Dallon gave a small smile in response. "I'll think about it."
She leaned over to give him a tight hug before sitting upright to open her door. "A new perspective of what a relationship can be is an incredible thing, Dallon." She said as she slid out of the car.
Dallon's head snapped towards her with a perplexed expression. For some reason, her words reminded him of that guy's Instagram bio... He shook of the thought as he pushed his own door open. It was probably nothing...
---
Dallon plopped down on his bed. The sky was dark now, and dinner had long been over. It was nothing more than expensive, small servings and 'encouragement' of a potential relationship between himself and Breezy. Nothing really new.
Dallon rolled onto his side and took his phone out of his pocket. He found himself, for what could possibly be the hundredth time today, back on that same Instagram page. He just felt so drawn to this guy... Maybe he should give talking to him a try...
Hey! I just saw that you followed me back, thanks ☺
Dallon was caught off guard by the sudden appearance of the message that popped up in his notifications tab. There was no way the guy had responded just as Dallon was considering sending him a message...
Dallon clicked the notification and, sure enough, that was exactly what had just happened. Dallon let out a confused sort of laugh. That was strange; things like that usually didn't happen so on cue.
Thanks for following me first! I'm Dallon
Dallon read over the message about ten times before sending it. It was just casual. No harm in a name or a thank you; just a casual conversation starter, if things went well?
I'm Brendon! NP, I like your captions, you're funny
Dallon found himself grinning at the message. Brendon. So that was his name. Not only that, Brendon thought he was funny. It felt like a great starting point already.
Dallon rolled onto his back, holding his phone above his face as another message came through.
Do you live in LA?
Dallon's phone dropped from his hands, smacking against his face. He swore loudly, smacking his hand against the small device to pick it back up. Brendon might actually live in the same area?
Yea! Do you? Maybe we could have coffee sometime?
Dallon had immediate regret for the added on date idea. This was only the second thing he had said to Brendon, and it was that? How forward with someone could you get? His heart raced when a new message popped up onscreen.
Yes & sounds good! You buying? ;)
How about tomorrow at 8:30? There's a nice café down by the ice cream parlor.
Dallon wanted to send an immediate yes, but a small voice nagged in the back of his head.
He still knew nothing about this guy. They had only been talking for about ten minutes, tops. What if it was bad news?
Those thoughts also brought up the conversation he had with Breezy earlier in the day. A new perspective of what a relationship can be is an incredible thing, Dallon. What if this was the start of that? It's been so long since highschool. I think it would be nice for you to find another guy.
Dallon tilted his head to either side of his empty bed. When he was with Josh, and they were sure that they were alone, Josh would press his body against Dallon's and nuzzle against him. Dallon would tease Josh's faded pink hair with one arm while the other would wrap around his waist to secure his body's position against Dallon's...
That was one of the first things Dallon missed when Josh left.
He couldn't run fingers through the soft curls on top of his boyfriend's head. He couldn't hold the warm body of someone he never wanted to let go of close. He had the extra warmth of his bed vanish, leaving cold and empty space. Dallon missed the contact of another body next to his.
Sounds fantastic!
Dallon let out a breath of air he had unconsciously been holding. It had been so long since he had really let himself think about his time with Josh that it had left him holding his breath. He tried to avoid those memories as much as he could. He never wanted to relive the hurt of them.
Dallon shut his eyes tightly, feeling tears begin to form. He wanted that feeling that he had lost, but there was no way he would be able to find it in some Instagram stranger. Especially one he knew nothing about, so far.
Dallon sniffled as he wiped his arm along his eyes, taking away any escaped tears. He opened his eyes to a short message from Brendon.
Alright, Dallon, see you then 😉
