Chapter 32 - First Kiss
One of the most exciting presents for Christmas is a drone. It's not given to any kid in particular but for everyone to share and play at some point, hence why it ends up in Clarisse's office at the end of the day. It's fun going out, all of us, and sending it flying to different places, following birds, above the trees, the house, everywhere. The kids run after it, as if they could reach it, they trip, fall but spring up and continue running. It's most amusing. Even our teens in the house are overly excited about it, taking turns to control it and teasing the kids.
"We should go hiking one day and take it with us," Nora suggests. "You've barely left this house except to go to the hospital."
"Sounds like fun," I agree, walking behind her to catch up with the kids. Will walks by my side, our hands brushing with every step, and at times he just hooks one finger with mine, in a light touch that barely lasts a second, then lets go. However, my heart is left racing. "But it's going to snow soon and I'm no expert but I don't think going hiking when it's so cold it's a good idea."
"Oh, but imagine the type of movie we could shoot if we got trapped in the forest when it's snowing," Will teases and I have to smack him in the guts to make him shut up. My violence only amuses him, though.
"Shut up." I can hear Nora chuckling in front of us. "Besides, who told you that you're coming with us?"
"Are you really planning on go hiking without me?" Will retorts offended, gasping and clasping a hand to his chest. "I'm deeply hurt, Princess. I thought we had something special. I guess I'll never be a match for Nora."
"Precisely," I affirm and that's not the answer he was waiting for because he stops and just stares at me. My smile comes immediately as I hold up my hand in an invitation for him that he can't refuse, even the grin comes back to his lips when he wraps his hand around mine so we can continue walking. "It's true, though. The me not going out part. I don't even know what town look like."
"Very small, very dull," Will replies. "There's only one bar," he continues and I roll my eyes. Surely knowing the amount of bars in town helps me to visualise it. "It doesn't offer much to do, to be honest. If you want to go, maybe we can for New Year's Eve."
"That doesn't sound like a bad idea," Nora comments. "We can go to the one and only bar in town and get Blanca drunk to receive the new year. It takes one glass."
"I'm not that much of a lightweight!" I protest, but Nora just chuckles. "It takes two glasses now."
"Oh, my bad, my bad," Nora laughs but I stop to stomp my foot and pout, yet she doesn't notice that, only Will does and his smile is so fond. Next thing I know, he steals one quick kiss and then carries on. I only have two-seconds to be surprised before I'm dragged behind them, catching to Nora while Will still holds my hand.
"So we're going for New Year's Eve. We have a plan," Will sums up. "We get Princess drunk and take videos of her when she does humiliating things to black mail her the next day."
"She isn't so much in the humiliating side," Nora tells. "She's more like the sleepy and overly affectionate type."
"Oh, exactly the type I like," Will comments, grinning at me but I just roll my eyes.
"That's how I got my first kiss," Nora adds then and even if I'm not seeing her face, I'm sure her grin is mischievous.
"Pardon?" Will stops to ask, his face blank and his eyes so wide. I am doing my best not to laugh at him and his reaction, but it's just so hard.
"We were like what? Fifteen?" Nora muses and I shrug, I think it was around that time. "Maybe younger because there was a party in Blanca's house and we weren't allowed in, so we snuck to steal some glasses of champagne and went back in her room to drink them. That's why I make sure she doesn't drink much now because she's a lightweight. She got drunk after the first glass and started hugging me and saying how much she loved me and that I was the best friend ever and she'd never change me and I'd always be second to her dad in her life. She grabbed my face and just kissed me before falling asleep on me." Nora looks over her shoulder at Will who's still watching her flabbergasted. "That's the story of our first kiss."
"There hasn't been another between you two, right?" Will asks next and I'm surprised Nora can keep the straight face.
"Not that I remember." I have to cover my mouth not to laugh out loud. I'm not sure why she enjoys pushing Will so much, but I love it.
"Okay, so just in case, when we go to the bar, Nora will stay at two-metres of distance, and I'll be next to the princess," Will states, without asking any of us and Nora's smirks widens.
"Oh, so you can be kissed by the overly affectionate Blanca?"
"Of course!" he affirms easily, making Nora raise her eyebrows. "Not that I need her drunk for her to kiss me, but you know what I mean."
Nora is far too amused and can't hold her chuckles anymore as she turns around again and continues walking. Will is glaring at me next and I do my best to pull myself together and just shrug, like excusing myself with a just 'I was drunk.' He squints his eyes and I press my lips together, trying so hard not to laugh.
"You said it was incest," he reminds me and I'm about to lose it, I swear it's a miracle I haven't yet.
"It is, but I was drunk." His expression shows no amusement whatsoever. "It wasn't a romantic kiss; it's like when a kid kisses their parents on the lips," I try to explain but he doesn't seem convinced.
Determined, I step closer until I get rid of the distance between us and stand on my toes. Quickly, I peck his lips without much thought, no romance intended, just a light touch. "That's the kind of kiss Nora got," I explain before my hand wraps around his neck and pulls him for a proper kiss that he replies naturally, yet I pull back before he's ready and he follows me, as if he weren't willing to part ways just yet. "And that's the kind of kiss you get. Satisfied now?"
"Hardly," he mumbles and I just smile, stepping back to put distance between us before he can kiss me, just to tease him a bit. I even release his hands and walk away, following Nora.
Will's footsteps follow behind and soon he's by my side, taking my hand again and pulling it inside the pocket of his coat, keeping it warm. I give him a side look, just to see him grinning again as we walk. I'm not sure if what we have is a relationship, at least officially speaking, but it feels like one that is growing just naturally, effortlessly. We are getting closer, more comfortable around each other and it really feels nice.

A few days later the first snowfall of winter comes, before New Year's and everyone is excited, and by everyone I mean the kids and Will. It's snowed overnight, so we wake up when Will and the boys barge inside the girl's room to tell us it's snowed and we're obliged to have a war outside, so we better be fast. I'm one-hundred percent sure Will is the one leading them.
The girls get excited and run to get in their warmest clothes before heading outside, running, planning on their strategy and how to take down the boys. Nora and I are a bit slower, reluctant to leave our bed but knowing we can't stay in much longer. Besides, we need to make breakfast.
We do go outside, not exactly to play but to watch them and it's easy to spot the kids behind a tree, or a big rock, or any surface that can work as shield, holding a small snowball like a grenade, ready to aim and kill.
Out of the blue, a wild Will appears, rolling on the snowed ground in his most dramatic move, trying to imitate a Hollywood action stunt actor before throwing his ball at his target, Sam who has been exposed trying to go for a safer place.
"Ousted!" he screams as Nora and I watch him, surprised that he's attacked a little girl.
"That's unfair!" Sam screams, brushing the snow from his bicep.
"War is unfair!" he shouts back, dramatically.
Using the argument as distraction, I kneel to grab some snow and make a ball for myself, then aiming to his head while he continues arguing with Sam. Before he can know what it hit him, I aim and throw, smacking the back of his head and then playing dumb.
Outraged, he turns around to see who dared to shoot him and my innocent facade must be failing, because his eyes land on me and start glaring daggers.
"How could you?" he dramatises. I wonder if aside from being a vet his other dream was becoming an action actor. "I trusted you."
"War is unfair, you said it yourself," I remind him, shrugging and smiling sheepishly. "You're ousted now."
However, he doesn't just take that and springs up, charging against me. I scream when I notice what he's planning to do and immediately hide behind Nora, but, she's small and very slim, which fails as shield so I have to run before Will catches me and gets back at me.
My screams echo around as I continue running, calling for help, but I'm left alone and Will finally catches me and the force of the momentum throws us both to the ground, although he rolls to receive the impact of the fall before rolling and pinning me against the snowy ground. I scream and try to wriggle my way out, by his knees have a hold grip of my hips and his hands are free to create a new snowball.
"No! Don't do it," I beg, my hands in front of my face. "I'm sorry, I am deeply sorry for attacking you."
"That won't save you now," he promises, lethal.
I see his arm raising, ready to swing, but before he does that a new ball hits him on his face, knocking him off of me just because the hit catches him off guard. Yet I don't lose my chance and I escape, running to my saviour, Cata, who's already throwing another ball at Will.
Soon, even Nora joins us and somehow it ends with all of us, boys included, just attacking Will who can't keep up with all of us and ends up surrendering. We cheer for our victory and decide to celebrate it with pancakes for breakfast that Will, as punishment, has to prepare. Then Nora and I are telling the kids to go change and warm up unless they want to catch a cold before the holidays are over. We follow close behind, but Will catches my hand before we make it inside the house, making me turn to look at him. The boy is drenched and I can barely hold my laughter.
"That was cruel," he mutters as I press my lips together to keep me from chuckling. "Who will take responsibility if I catch a pneumonia?"
"Yourself. It was your idea the snowball war," I remind him and he gasps offended.
"I guess I was expecting too much, of course the dwarfs would protect the princess," he dramatises again, and I roll his eyes. He finds too much amusement in the Snow White analogy.
"Come on, let's go in before you indeed get a cold," I invite him, taking his cold hands in mine to guide him in, but he pulls me towards him for a hug, a very cold and wet hug. "Oi!"
"You couldn't escape the snow forever!" he laughs, almost maniacally but it's just him being dramatic, hugging me tight. "If I fall, you fall with me."
"You big idiot, let go!" I insist, trying to escape his arms, but he only hugs me tighter.
"I've caught the princes, you're mine now!"
"Don't be an idiot and let me go," I try again.
"Nope. I've frozen around you and the only escape is a kiss to thaw the ice!"
"You're getting all the tales mixed, aren't you?" I retort, stopping the fight just to stare at him and that wide grin of his. I chuckle and shake my head, surprised that I like this big idiot so much already. But I do, I like him already so I comply and kiss him ever so softly, and his arms indeed loosen up around me in a more comfortable hug instead of an iron grip.
"Happy now?" I ask, breaking the kiss just to be surprised with his dashing smile.
"Very," he accepts, looking indeed pleased. I chew on my bottom lip, meeting his warm eyes.
I really like this idiot, oh so much.

Yesterday I got up finish a story I was writing for myself (no sharing that, you wouldn't be interested in such fandom) so I only wrote this chapter this morning while listening to Dear Cloud (Lovely band, highly recommended). I hope you enjoyed it. I hope you don't dismiss these chapters as just fluff and fillers, details are being exposed that will pile up for the climax and death. Hey, it's Snow White after all *grins*
