𝐃𝐔𝐒𝐓𝐈𝐍, 𝐋𝐈𝐙𝐙𝐈𝐄 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐄𝐃𝐃𝐈𝐄 spent the next ten minutes making the trailer bat-proof. They boarded up the windows, patched up any holes, and wrapped barbed wire around the base. Then, they stood back and admired their work.

"Not bad." Eddie murmured.

"Not bad at all." Dustin added.

"Good job guys," Lizzie breathed. "Now, let's get down to business."

"You mean the fun part?" Eddie offered, taking long strides to keep up with the determined blonde, who was already up the stairs and opening the front door of the trailer.

"Eh, it's not my idea of fun." Lizzie shrugged. "But, if that's what you'd like to call it."

Not saying anything else, Eddie just brushed past Lizzie to get inside, but she could tell that the shove was playful. She was glad that Eddie was having fun with this, because she was so nervous she felt like she might be sick.

The three of them entered Eddie's bedroom, or rather, the vine covered, dirty, grimey version of it. Eddie went right over to the wall where his guitar was hanging, just like how it was in Hawkins.

"It's like..." he spoke with wonder in his voice. "She was destined for an alternate dimension."

He wrapped his fingers around the neck of the guitar, the strings letting out a squeak of music as he lifted it off the wall. "Are you guys ready for the most metel concert in the history of the world?"

Lizzie let herself smile fondly at him, her nerves subsiding if only for a second. "I've always wanted to watch you play."

Looking over his shoulder and beaming at her, Eddie replied, "Trust me when I say that this is gonna be way more epic then playing at a random bar with a crowd of a few drunks."

"Well," Lizzie said. "I'm excited."

"Hell yeah!" Dustin joined in. "Me too."

Slinging the guitar strap over his shoulder, Eddie looked down at them both. "Let's do it."

Leaving his room, Eddie told them to grab out the two large speakers that he kept in the hall closet for when he played live, then he told them to meet him on the roof.

Being left alone with Dustin, Lizzie decided to make small talk. "This is so crazy."

Dustin shrugged. "I've done crazier things."

"Like what?" Lizzie laughed out loud, prying to closet door open, eager to hear his answer.

"One time, I went down into these tunnels that were under Hawkins," he told her as she grabbed the cords and plugs that went with the speaker set. "There were all these baby Demogorgans down there and it was crazy!" His eyes widened as he relived the memory. "Anyways, me and my friends set the freaking tunnels on fire!"

"I don't know..." Lizzie looked over at him. "That sounds cool and all, but this has to be a close second."

A smile slowly spread over Dustin's face. "You're right, this is cooler."

Smiling back at him, Lizzie lifted up a speaker and handed it to him, before taking the second one for herself. Then, the two of them left the hall and went out the front door.

Eddie peered over the edge of the roof, looking down at them. He held out his arms and they gave him the speakers, one at a time, and he positioned them on top of the trailer.

Lizzie tossed up one end of the cords and Eddie plugged them into the backs of both speakers. Then, while Eddie pulled Dustin up onto the roof with him, Lizzie went back inside and stuck the other end of the cord into an outlet in the wall. Luckily, it was just long enough.

She stepped back outside and held her hands up for Eddie to grab. He pulled and she go her feet onto the base of one of the windows, using the leverage from the window and Eddie to get herself onto the roof. She brushed off her pants and tightened her ponytail, nodding quickly at Dustin to finish plugging in the guitar.

As if on a cue, Dustin's walkie talkie crackled to life and Robin's voice came over the speaker. "She's in. Move on to phase three."

Lizzie felt her heart jump, and Dustin responded, "Copy that. Initiating phase three."

With the newfound adrenaline rush, Lizzie reached over and quickly switched on the amp, and already the guitar was echoeing some notes over the speaker.

Eddie took his place in the center of the roof, with Dustin and Lizzie crouched by the speakers. He nodded to them, taking the extra guitar pick out of his mouth and bringing it down to the strings.

"Chrissy," he whispered. "This is for you."

He struck a chord, and it echoed loudly throughout the whole landscape. Another chord, adding to the noise. Lizzie pulled his necklace out from inside her shirt, clutching onto the pick tightly. "Come on," she murmured to herself. "You've got this, Eddie."

He went on playing, and soon Lizzie recognized it as Master of Puppets by Metallica. Dustin was headbanging and dancing along to the music, and Lizzie wishes she could do the same but she couldn't relax until the bats showed up.

Dustin held up his binoculars and looked off into the distance. Lizzie followed his eyes, watching as the sky lit up with red lightening flashes. The sillouettes of hundreds of bats were now illuminated, and were headed right towards them.

"It's working!" Lizzie shrieked with joy.

"Eddie! We gotta lockdown in T-minus 30 seconds!" Dustin informed him.

Eddie nodded, getting the message but continuing to play. Lizzie watched the bats fly closer, and closer, her fear that it wouldn't work subsiding, replaced with the fear of what would happen when the hoard reached them. Dustin continued to call out to Eddie every few seconds with the update on when they'd have to go inside, so the bats didn't get to them.

"One!" Dustin finished his countdown from ten. Eddie threw back his head, reering his guitar as he played the final chord. Lizzie felt her chest swell with pride as the music faded out of the speakers, but this good feeling was quickly snuffed out when Dustin grabbed her sleeve and started to pull her off of the roof.

The three of them jumped off, bending their knees as they landed so they didn't hurt themselves. Eddie reached the door first, and held it for Dustin and Lizzie as they sprinted inside. He slammed the door behind them, grabbing the chains that they had attached to the door earlier and locking it up tight. Once it was secure, Lizzie slouched against the wall with relief. Dustin, on the other hand, started to bounce up and down on his toes, grabbing at Eddie's shoulders.

"Dude!" He had to yell over the loud screeches that came from the bats. "Most! Metel! Ever!"

Eddie joined in with his excitement, the two boys jumped up and down and screaming with joy. Lizzie tossed her head back and laughed, her chest heaving as her heart rate slowed and breathing returned to normal.

Their moment of celebration was short lived, quickly interupted by the loud thud of a bat throwing itself against the side of the trailer. As more bats followed the leader, slamming into the trailer, the walls starting to shake gently.

Eddie quickly grabbed his shield and held it up, facing the door. Slowly, the three backed out of  the main entry and into the living room, squeezing their weapons tighter as the bats screamed angrily.

"They can't get in," Lizzie panted. "R-right?"

"I don't know, they sound pretty angry!" Dustin exclaimed.

A particularly loud bang made Lizzie whimper. She held her spear tight, standing at the ready to stab any bats if they were able to break through.

Suddenly, the thudding stopped and all went quiet. Lizzie lowered her weapon slowly, but Dustin had other plans.

"Hey dipshits!" He yelled, loud enough so the bats could hopefully hear him. "Give up that easy, huh?"

Eddie shushed him aggressively. "Is that really necessary?"

Thump.

This came from the roof. Lizzie looked up at the vine covered ceiling and swallowed hard as tiny bat footsteps could be heard overhead.

"They're on the roof." Lizzie whispered, even though all of them already knew that and were currently being filled with dread.

They started to creep towards the only thing that they had left unguarded. A vent in the middle of the kitchen ceiling.

"They can't get in through there, can they?" Dustin dared to ask.

With a ear splitting screech, a bat shoved its head right through, ripping a hole in the exit door, giving Dustin his answer.

Lizzie screamed in terror as the tiny creature roared at them, and Dustin stepped up and started to spear at the hole, trying to strike a bat in the face. Eddie and Lizzie quickly joined him, all three of them stabbing at the creatures, but they were unable to hit any of them.

The hole in the ceiling was growing despite their efforts to fight off the bats. Eddie stopped his stabbing, which only allowed the bats to push even further inside.

"Eddie!" Lizzie yelled.

"We need you man, come on!" Dustin screamed at Eddie as well.

"Move out of the way!" Was what Eddie returned with, and they did. Lizzie fell backwards against a cabinet as Eddie took his shield with nails and shoved it onto the ceiling, the nails holding it in place and blocking the bats from getting in.

"Holy shit." He panted, shocked that it had worked.

Dustin held up his hand for a high five. "Nice."

Eddie slapped their hands together. "Thanks." He replied. Lizzie offered him a high five as well, and he gave it to her.

"Are there other vents?" Dustin asked.

All of a sudden, Eddie got a terrified look on his face before he sprinted down the hallway towards his room, cussing under his breath. Lizzie and Dustin hurried to follow him, but before any of them could get inside the room, the vent in the ceiling was flung of its hinges, and a swam of bats came bursting into the bedroom. Eddie quickly shut the door on them, but they knew it wouldn't hold for long.

"We are so screwed!" Lizzie cried.

"Let's get out of here!" Eddie replied urging everyone back into the living room, towards the gate in the ceiling.

Lizzie took a knee and let Dustin push up off of her onto the sheet rope. She could hear the wooden bedroom door cracking as the bats tried to get to them. Dustin fell through the gate, landing on the mattress on the other side.

Eddie dropped his sheid to the ground, the metel clattering loudly, so that he could grab Lizzie's waist and help hoist her up. Lizzie dragged herself up those sheets so fast, she could've sworn she got rugburn on her hands. Dustin helped her get back to her feet, and then the two looked up at Eddie.

"Eddie, come on!" Dustin urged him.

Eddie took a hold of the rope and started to pull, face scrunching up as he used all his remaining strength. Then, he paused, turning to look back down the hall at the room bursting with bats.

"Eddie you're so close, come on!" Dustin screamed at him.

Lizzie felt the dread sinking into her chest and the tears already pricking her eyes as she watched Eddie hesitate. "Eddie-" Her voice broke with desperation. "Please, just come to me! Please..."

He didn't even look at her as he slid back down the rope.

"What are you doing?" Dustin exclaimed. "Eddie, no!"

Lizzie covered her hand with her mouth to stifle her cry as she watched Eddie grab the homemade javelin and slice the sheet rope right down the middle.

So he couldn't come back.

Dustin caught the rope as it fell through the gate towards them, staring back at Eddie with a look a utter terror in his eyes. "Eddie? Eddie, stop!" Dustin was pleading with him, but Eddie ignored him, instead flipping the mattress out from under the gate.

So they couldn't follow him.

"Eddie," Lizzie joined in the begging. Her heart was aching so desperately, she felt like her chest might rip in two. "Please, don't do this. You don't have to do this!"

"What are you doing!?" Dustin added, even though he wasn't sure he wanted an answer.

"I'm buying more time." Eddie had a determined look in his face and sound to his voice that Lizzie had never seen before. It made her stomach lurch and knees grow weak.

"No..." she could only make her voice come out in a whisper as Eddie disappeared from her sight, back out there with the bats.
