The Scientist
Blaine and Kurt broke up 1 month ago and they were dating for 6 months... Blaine transferred to McKinley and has just got into the New Directions.
-_-_-
"Wow! Blaine that was really something!" Mr. Schue clapped his hands.
"Thanks!" Blaine grinned as the rest of the room applauded him.
"So, now that Blaine has joined us we have an even number. And I can finally set the assignment for this week!" Mr. Schue explained as Blaine sat in a chair at the front, trying not to make eye contact with the blue eyes boring holes into him, "I have this big wheel with all of your names on it, you guys will come and spin it and whoever's name the arrow lands on will have to sing what they and their partner think to be the worlds greatest breakup song or getting back together song, you decide!"
"I'll go first!" Rachel raised her hand and got up to spin, "Puck!"
"Kurt, you go." Rachel tapped the chestnut haired boy's shoulder.
"Ok." Kurt frowned but stood up and spun the wheel anyway, "Blaine." Kurt sighed, he knew he couldn't change it. He was stuck with his ex-boyfriend. Great.
Blaine's eyes widened. This can't be good. This can't be good. Do something! Say something! Anything!
"O-okay." Congratulations, you just made a fool of yourself in front of everyone. Blaine let out a low, frustrated growl causing Mercedes and Sam to look back worriedly. You're an idiot. 'Shut up.' Blaine hated the voice inside his head sometimes.
-_-_-
"Rachel and Puck, that was great!" Mr. Schue cheered as the pair sat down. Once the New Directions had finished applauding them he continued, "Blaine and Kurt, you were paired after Rachel and Puck so you can go next."
"Okay." Kurt shrugged and stepped onto the stage, Blaine trailing behind him.
Kurt sighed as the opening chords began to play and he opened his mouth to sing a song that had so much meaning to him hidden behind the lyrics, the meanings that none of the current audience members knew of.
Come up to meet you, tell you I'm sorry
You don't know how lovely you are
I had to find you, tell you I need you
Tell you I set you apart
Blaine already felt tears starting to well up in his eyes as he began to sing. These words summed up exactly what had gone on and how he felt.
Tell me your secrets, and ask me your questions
Oh let's go back to the start
Running in circles, coming up tails
Heads on a science apart
Neither singer opened their eyes as their voices mixed together in such a perfect way, it was as if they were meant to be sung together.
Nobody said it was easy
It's such a shame for us to part
Nobody said it was easy
No one ever said it would be this hard
Oh, take me back to the start.
Kurt slowly opened his eyes to stare back at his Glee club who were watching the pair on the stage in awe. He took a deep breath before singing his part.
I was just guessing at numbers and figures
Pulling the puzzles apart
Blaine peeked through his open eyelids as he began to sing his solo.
Questions of science, science and progress
Do not speak as loud as my heart
Blaine tried to keep the tears back, he really did, but it was just too much in the end. He could tell the New Directions were confused as they watched a few tears roll down his cheeks. He glanced over to Kurt who seemed to be in a similar, crying state as he began to sing.
But tell me you love me, come back and haunt me
Oh and I rush to the start
Blaine couldn't look away from the Angel before him, Kurt always hated crying in front of Blaine, he would never believe Blaine when he told him he looked beautiful no matter what. But Blaine didn't lie.
Running in circles, chasing our tails
Coming back as we are
Kurt turned to look at Blaine and he almost forgot the lyrics to the song as he was met with saddened hazel eyes and both of their voices mixed once more.
Nobody said it was easy
Oh it's such a shame for us to part
Nobody said it was easy
No one ever said it would be so hard
I'm going back to the start
Blaine just wanted to jump forward, wrap Kurt in a big hug and never let him go.
Nobody said it was easy
Nobody said it was easy
Kurt so badly wanted to lean forward and wipe the tears away from under Blaine's eyes.
Nobody said it was easy
Nobody said it was easy
Nobody said it was easy
The New Directions weren't sure what to do; they wanted to praise the boys for such an amazing performance, but they didn't want to interrupt this emotional moment the two young men seemed to be having as they stared into each other's eyes.
Suddenly Kurt cleared his voice and stood up, wiping the tears from under his tired eyes, "Well."
"Kurt." Blaine choked out as he grabbed Kurt's wrist.
"What?" Kurt tried to sound angry but he couldn't be angry at Blaine, not for long periods of time at least.
"I-I'm just-I'm so sorry." Blaine ducked his head.
"I'm sorry too." Kurt wrapped his fingers around Blaine's hand which was previously holding his wrist, "Blaine?"
"Yes?" Blaine said, eyes never leaving his hand which was partially hidden by the hand of his ex-boyfriend, love of his life.
"I-I love you." This got Blaine's attention and his head snapped up so his eyes could look into Kurt's
"I-I- You do?" Blaine inhaled a shaky breath at the thought of getting Kurt back. Don't be so hopeful.
"Yeah. I n-never stopped." Kurt ducked his head but looked up when he realised that he couldn't look into Blaine's beautiful eyes if he looked at the floor.
"I love you too." Blaine smiled, "So, so much.
"W-why did we, you know, break up?" Kurt tried ignoring the feeling of his friends watching their conversation intently.
"Because we were stupid? I don't know, Kurt, I honestly don't know." Blaine sighed and looked back at their still intertwined fingers.
"Can we just kiss and make up, then?" Kurt grinned when Blaine chuckled.
"I would love that, almost as much as I love y-" Blaine was cut off by the pair of soft lips that he'd missed so much as they were pressed hard against his.
"S-so does this mean that I can call you my boyfriend again?" Blaine smiled when Kurt pulled away and placed his forehead against Blaine's.
"Only if I get to call you mine." Kurt smiled and pecked Blaine's lips once more.
"Deal." Blaine pressed his lips to Kurt's head before pulling apart and interlocking their hands.
"I missed you." Kurt sighed contentedly as he swung his and Blaine's hands side-to-side.
"I'm sorry for interrupting this sweet moment but, what the hell is going on here?" Mercedes held her hand up as both boys turned to stare at the dozen teenagers sitting just below them.
"Umm, Blaine and I dated for about 6 months but then we kinda broke up a month ago. I guess you know that we just got back together now." Kurt finished awkwardly as he glanced back to his ex-boy- no - boyfriend.
"Dude! This is awesome!" Puck jumped out of his seat and ran up the stage stairs to envelope Kurt in a giant bear-hug.
"Thanks?" Kurt frowned.
"I'm just so happy for you, for as long as I can remember you have been upset because you don't have someone to love you. Come to think of it you didn't really seem that upset these last 7 months, probably explains a lot." Puck nodded as he stared off into the distance.
"You weren't upset this last month? I was so depressed. Literally, my grades dropped." Blaine pouted at the memory.
"No, I was upset. I just tried my best to not seem upset in front of my friends. And it seemed to work." Kurt grinned.
"Anyway." Mr. Schue jogged up to the stage, ushering the 3 boys to jump off, "Mercedes and Sam, I think it was you guys next."
As Mercedes made her way to the stage, she passed Kurt and put a hand on his shoulder to stop him before leaning in and whispering something into his ear, "Girls night at mine tonight. Be there." Before rushing up the stage and singing a beautiful version of 'It's Too Late.'
The song was 'The Scientist'
Hence the title... :/
