Story #3

PART 2

Two damaged souls. One repairing the wrong things and the other denying her existence.

"Why can't you leave me alone?" the girl asked.

"Because you need my help," he replied. The girl shook her head and attempted to leave. The boy grabbed her hand and pulled her back. He whispered, "Please just let me help."

"If I was to let you help, what will you actually achieve? Who would benefit the most?" she replied.

"You will be able to see all the colour in this grey world. I will be able to rest, knowing that I've cured everyone from their sorrows." The girl smiled sadly and said to him, "Some people survive on their sorrows. It gives them a reason for living."

The boy blinked, then asked, "What is your name?"

"Joy."

"Such a bright name for one with dark thoughts."

"My name does not decide my actions, thoughts or words. I do," replied Joy, "and what is you name?"

"I am Peace, and I aim to provide everyone with it."

Joy removed Peace's hand from her arm and held his hand instead. She lead him towards the rising moon. To you and I, there'd be a dark blue sky, littered with stars of many bright colours. To them, the sky is grey, the moon is white and there are no stars.

"What  do you see?" she asked Peace.

He gazed at the sky before replying, "Just different shades of grey, as our world is."

Joy said, "In our world, only those who truly believe in goodness or peace can see through this mask of grey. You see grey, you believe in grey."

The hand holding hers loosened and she let go.

"You want to help everyone but yourself," she whispered, "You do so much for others yet nothing for yourself. Why?"

"Can't you tell? By providing others with a chance to see what I never can, my heart can remain beating. By helping others, I give myself a reason to live," said Peace, tears welling up in his dark, grey eyes.

Turning to face Peace, Joy said, "And that is what I have realised about you. You wanted to help me but I turned you away. You still wouldn't stop. I am the one who shall aid you and give you a chance at seeing colour. I know that I can never be fixed but that is not the case with you." With that, she kissed Peace then turned away.

"All you really needed a little bit of Joy in you heart."

Peace closed his eyes. When he reopened them, he could see colour. The night sky was a deep shade of blue, whilst the stars glittered brightly. The landscape he found himself in was a forest clearing decorated with fairy lights. They were red, green, blue, yellow and other colours he could not describe. When Peace looked up, he noticed that the moon was still white and grey.

He thought that, perhaps, without Joy, his world of colour was incomplete. He thought that, maybe, the moon remained colourless because she had left him. He never did realise that the moon was meant to be like that.
