So having the stomach flu hurts right? So that must be happening to Free right now. Because feeling like your intestines are about to burst and leak out all over the place is what it feels like, right? And not being able to stand because you think you might puke out your whole stomach and everything with it is how he feels right about now.
Free groaned in agony as he curled into a ball, arms around his torso. Well, this is just great, the day of my battle and I can't even get out of the fucking bed. He gasped and his vision went blurry momentarily when a wave of nausea hit him. He got up and bolted to the bathroom.
Another round of dry heaving later, Free sat back down in his bed. He hadn't eaten or drunk anything all day, which is why nothing had come out. It took all he had not to burst into tears right then and there. He'd never admit it out loud, but he so wanted Chris to come in right about now and ask him if he was ok, then when he said he wasn't, she'd wrap her arms around him and hug him, telling him everything will be ok.
But she wasn't here. And he had a battle to get to. Free shook his head. Bad idea. Nausea hit him once again and he held onto the bedpost to steady himself. "Jesus fuck, what is wrong with me?" He muttered to himself. Free slowly got dressed and left his room. He took deep, slow breaths while he walked, trying to ignore the cramp in his side.
He managed to get to El Astro fine, and by fine, I mean not-passing-out-in-the-middle-of-the-street fine. But when he got inside his personal training room, he was not fine anymore. The nausea was now coupled with both unbearable cramps and dizziness. Ok, this was not good. This wasn't good at all.
Free knew something was wrong. This wasn't just any old sickness. But he couldn't just back out now, Lui was standing on the other side of the stadium right now, waiting for him to come out. So instead, Free took a deep breath, drank some water, and headed out of his training room.
The blond stood behind the large sliding doors where he heard Hanami beginning to introduce the two bladers to the crowd. No backing out now. The doors slid open and Free tried his best to maintain a bored-looking expression when in reality the overly bright lights and the loud crowd made his stomach roil.
Free walked down the stairs, trembling in pain. He stood on the other side of the stadium and faced Lui, who wore his usual snarky grin. "So, De La Hoya, are you even going to try to impress me this time? Or will I snag another easy win?" Lui's cold voice echoed in Free's ears. Gathering up what little strength he had, he bent down into his launch position and looked Lui dead in the eyes. He hoped his discomfort and pain didn't show in his own. "In your dreams, Lui."
They counted down, and launched. The force it took to make Fafnir spin normally made Free's stomach cramp up, and he inhaled sharply. Luinor sent a flurry of attacks, and Fafnir countered them all. Free on the other hand, wasn't doing so well. He was cold, but hot at the same time. He shuddered from time to time, and no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't his body strong enough to do the vein thing. Free was about to yell out another command at Fafnir, when a wave of nausea hit him like nothing he'd felt before. This time, he couldn't stop himself from doubling over. He yelped in pain. Then he finally felt whatever was in his stomach work its way up.
It was a weird sense of relief when he finally threw up. It hurt like it normally did, but after everything was out the pain subsided. He straightened up and sighed. That's when Free heard the gasps of shock. He opened his eyes and looked at Lui. The other blader was staring at him with wide purple eyes, which were filled with shock and perhaps something like worry. Free tilted his head, blinking in confusion. "Free...." Lui finally said.
It was the genuine concern in Lui's voice that got his anxiety spiking. Lui pointed to Free's face. Free narrowed his eyes and wiped a hand across his lower lip.
That's when he saw it. The deep red liquid was smeared across the side of his hand. Then he tasted it. The salty, metallic tang was unmistakable. Free's heart began pounding in his chest, so loud and fast he thought it might break. Wrenching his gaze from his hand, he looked to the spot where he threw up.
It was blood. It was definitely blood. A large pool of deep red liquid sat on the floor, slowly spreading to one side. Free had just thrown up blood. The blond slowly looked back at his opponent, who looked at him with the exact same expression: fear.
That's when Free lost it. He began hyperventilating, backing away from the growing pool of blood and heading toward Lui. Blood dripped from his mouth and onto his shirt. Whatever was going on internally was fatal and he knew it, puking blood after not being able to get anything out confirmed it.
He felt a hand grab his wrist and looked behind him to see Lui staring at the pool of blood with wide eyes. Free began trembling uncontrollably, tears running down his face.
His head began throbbing. It kept throbbing until it was unbearable, like his skull was being bashed in by a rock. Free was fading in and out of consciousness, his vision slowly fading away. Unconsciousness felt so nice right now. It would get him away from the pain and horror. So, he gave in just this once.
Free crumbled out of Lui's grasp and onto the floor. He was out before his head hit the concrete.
hewoooo look at that, a story hehe
