Chapter 3: Diagon Alley Pt 2
Kaitlyn's POV
"Hello" I said to the free goblin, doing the best I can on crushing my dumb nerves.
At successfully gaining his attention, I left the next words to Wonda.
"We've come here to take money out of Miss Gates safe."
I tensed when the noise in the room suddenly went silent. The goblin before us, adjusted his spectacles and leaned slightly forward and stared at Wonda, then to me.
"That safe doesn't have a key, for you too access it, you'll need to do a certain test."
He then called for another goblin and whispered into his ear, then off the other went.
"Please wait a moment"
I nodded and so we waited.
"It's been such a long time, it might take while for them to find it." Wonda said and licked her paw.
"Find what?" I asked and thanked god that the room was slowly going back to normal. "And why did everyone go silent?"
"They will need to find the candle that will help identify you as Alex's successor. And the reason for why they went silent, is because Alex was a huge help in advancing the security of the Bank, but protested about the uses of a Dragon, by entrapping it and using them as security."
I frowned at the thought, but before I could speak the Goblin before us spoke again.
"Please take hold of this candle for you to access that safe. If the effects are positive then you may pass, if they are negative then we cannot let you enter and will ask you to leave."
The Goblin said as he placed a golden candle on the table desk. Inspecting it, I came to realise that this thing was literally a golden candle, no actual wax or wick, they were both solid gold.
"Ok..." gradually I reached for the solid gold cylinder shaped as a candle, feeling its cool surface on my fingertips then in my palm.
When it was firmly in my hold I wondered what was meant to happen now.
"Concentrate your flames into the candle." Wonda instructed.
Doing as she said, I watched as the candle burst into one giant silver flame. I panicked and decreased the amount of energy put in and the flame eased down into an appropriate size.
"Phew... could have given me a heads up, Wonda."
"You should have known not to put so much energy into it on the first try." She wacked her tail on the back of my head for my efforts.
Which, I will admit, was pretty dumb of me.
"E- Everything, l- looks to be in o- order here."
'Oh, I forgot about him.'
The poor goblin seemed to have lost a quarter of his life span in fright. His long fingered hands pressed onto the upper right side of his chest, directly were his heart is ~ I think.
Now that I think about it, the hall was silent again, and every goblin and customer were looking in our direction.
Reddening slightly at the unwanted attention, I released the golden candle, watching the sliver white flame go out.
"I will have someone take you down, Hookgrip!"
(Yeah, I had used the same goblin from Harry Potter Book 1, but switched the name around.)
Another goblin walked forward after placing away some golden coins. He gestured for me to follow. I gave the desk goblin a small bow and said my thanks before leaving with Wonda still stationed on my shoulder.
"So Wonda, what kind of safe am I to expect?"
"No need to worry, you won't require an actual key or any of your tools for this one." Said Wonda informatively "Alex had specifically made this safe, and not even the goblins could get in. It was a long time ago, but back then, Alex's knowledge on magic and alchemy was unparalleled."
The goblin by the name of Hookgrip held the door for us. Now, it was no longer marble, but instead a narrowed stone passageway lit by flaming torches. It slopped downwards, towards what looked like a mine-track. Hookgrip whistled and a cart came rolling in from up the tracts towards us.
We got in with Wonda changing positions and placing herself inside of my jacket with her head poking out.
"Is there a reason for you to be placed here?" I asked questionably, as I adjusted her into a more comfortable hold.
"Yeah, I don't feel like flying."
"Wha—?!"
Instantly, the cart moved at an unexpected speed, that I felt a whiplash as we turned every few seconds. The cart was moving on its own, Hookgrip wasn't steering it at all, and was that a dragon?
"Did we just pass a Dragon?!" I yelled over the whipping wind, holding onto Wonda, feeling her claws dig into my clothes and skin.
"They need to clean up this place up a bit." Wonda ducked all the way into my jacket, as refuge. The lucky thing.
When the cart stopped besides a semi big vault like door made of some type of metal that I couldn't identify. The place was dark and felt a little damp as we exited out of the cart.
"That... was Awesome!" Wonda jumped out and landed easily, shaking herself off like any normal cat. "Let's do this again, and maybe I'll be able to get a better look at the Dragon from before."
"As soon as we get everything we need, c'mon Kaitlyn."
Hookgrip gestured for me to step forward.
"Now, here you must open the door yourself, young master. I do not have the key to do so, because there is no key."
"Kaitlyn, just place your hand on the door and do what you did for the candle, it should open the door."
Nodding, I placed my hand on the cool door and infused it with my flames. Gaping, I watched as the door lit up, lines being drawn and shaping into a large fire symbol before one split in the middle and the doors were open.
"HOLY GOLD- !"
Inside, was literally tons of golden coins, some artifacts, some stacks of suitcases and file cabinets?
"Hurry it up Kaitlyn, we need to get a few things." Wonda, walked up and shifted into her human form, grabbing my arm, and dragging me in.
"How the hell did Alex get this much money?!"
"Like I said, Alex was a very intelligent witch here, and was able to come up with many magical tools and spells which people use now, and she travelled to discover the mysteries of magic and magical creatures. Even finding ancient artefacts by chance and returning them. In the end, people payed a lot for her help."
We then took some things, a few bags of gallons, for some extract cash which will go to great use in my adventure through Diagon Alley, and then we went through some of the suitcases, to find some muggle cash, that are luckily still useful. I took a few bags of that, most of it for Hermione and her family ~ in repayment for letting us stay with them ~ the rest were for me to spend on a few tools on which I plan to bring along to school.
Then there was also, the Animagus licence that Wonda had left behind, so she would be legal to be here, since she is put under that title. Though, she has to update it.
Once we had gotten everything and placed it all inside of a bag ~ one which was bigger on the inside and was a bag left behind in the vault ~ Wonda and me left and hopped on the cart were Hookgrip was waiting.
