Chapter 23: A Long Day Pt 1

No One's POV

Walking along the streets of Konoha, Kaitlyn wore her usual bright red vest. It was early in the morning and her two new little brothers ~ which only she refers to them as that ~ were off to the Academy like usual, though... because of Naruto's absence he had book loads of work to do, which she helped him with ~ even Sasuke helped.

She was on her way to the Jounin Standby Station until she came passed a bookstore. Now usually she could go to the library for a book, but if anything, keeping a book and not returning it, sounds better to her.

Plus she could have something better to do in her free time then drawing and napping ~ not that her naps last very long, thanks to a duck butt and whiskered blond.

Making her decision, she walked into the store and was welcomed by the lady at the cash register. Giving her a gentle smile, Kaitlyn responded to her with a simple 'thank you' and 'good morning'. Unknown to the ravenet, but when she turned her back to explore, the woman blushed at the smile, thinking to herself that it was the most angelic one she has ever seen.

Kaitlyn found the place quite pleasant. It was divided into different sections like any other store, some of them were divided by genres or authors, while most seemed to be Ninja scrolls, containing Taijutsu, Genjutsu, and Ninjutsu techniques.

She ventured around trying to see if there was a book or two she might want to keep until she spotted a mop of familiar gravity-defying grey hair.

"Hi Kakashi~!" She spoke up loud enough for the man to hear

Turning his attention away from his book, he eye smiled at the ravenet.

"Oh Kaitlyn, what brings you here?"

"I was looking around for a book I could read during my free time"

The masked ninja nodded at her answer

"Whatcha reading?" Kaitlyn asked innocently curious since she sees the man read most of the time.

"Oh, this here is my very favourite book, a new addition of Icha Icha."

"What's it about?" She tilted her head in wonder

And the man having no shame at all was just about to tell her the obvious truth of it being porn. Until a random scroll was tossed and hit the copy-nin on the side of his face.

Blinking in confusion at the sudden scene, Kaitlyn turned her head towards the front desk, where the lady at the cash register was. The woman had a dark aura surrounding her, but a smile plaster on her face.

"I'm so sorry for that sir, my hand slipped"

Kakashi laughed uneasy after looking directly in the woman's eyes. Through them, he read...

'pollute that innocent child's mind with your filth, you'll find yourself at the bottom of a grave'

Kaitlyn, despite being the ever observant and watchful person she was, couldn't understand at all. Instead, she shrugged it off as an accident and helped the one-eyed man.

As she helped the man to his feet, Kaitlyn gazed at the section that Kakashi was hovering over. Walked towards the shelf containing stacks of Icha Icha or other books.

Kakashi ~ fearing the woman at the cash register might throw some more books at him or worse ban him from the store ~ tried to stop Kaitlyn.

"W..Wait!..."

"Tale of the Utterly Gutsy Shinobi... hm, this sounds like a cool book" Kaitlyn smiled at it and walked past a frozen Kakashi towards the nice cashier lady. "I would like to buy this book please"

Nodding at the request, the woman did her job and Kaitlyn paid for the book with glee. Afterwards, she left the store with Kakashi and they made their way to the Jounin Standby Station.

Though it couldn't be left unsaid that Kakashi didn't leave without another warning glare, compressing himself from shivering the man walked on, noting to himself not to get on that woman's bad side again, if possible.

Entering a room located in the Station, Kaitlyn headed towards the couch in the corner and sat down to read her new book. Kakashi followed suit and started reading his Icha Icha book.

(I didn't actually know that Kakashi read that kind of books until 2016)

...~...~...~...~...~...~...~...~...~...~...~...~...

"Kurenai, did you hear about the rumours?"

"What rumours?"

A certain red eyes woman with wavy black hair questioned towards her purple-haired friend with a ponytail.

"I heard this rumour of a Shinobi with silver eyes took down an entire army of ninjas, single-handed!"

"Wow, really"

"Yeah, but that's not all! They even say that this Shinobi also accomplished multiple A and S-rank missions, and captured high ranking rogue nin from the bingo book!"

"No way! And they did all this single handed"

Anko nodded her head furiously, answering her red eyes friend with a yes.

"But that's not even the most shocking part. They said that this guy is a leaf Ninja!"

"What!"

"I know! But I've never heard of anybody with silver eyes, there is no such person here!" She expressed by throwing her arms in the air "I've tried to search for anyone with silver eyes but there is no one!"

"Hmm... what about that new prodigy?"

"What?"

"Haven't you heard?" She stopped to face the Dongo lover fully "Remember a while back, there was an incident and a stranger entered our village."

"An outsider? Why would they keep him in the village if not in a prison cell where I would have at least seen him or heard of him"

"I don't know but the Hokage was the one to certify him as a full-fledged citizen of Konoha."

They then continued their way to the main room or the Jounin Standby Station to relax.

"Is there any other clue to figure out this silver eyed nin, besides, well... his eyes?" Kurenai asked curiously as they spotted to the door of their destination.

"Umm, well I do think they said the guy had long black hair, a double-edged sword and maybe a red coat?"

They came in front of the door and opened it, casually walking in like they usually did. They seated themselves on a couch, feeling the soft comfort of its cushions and relieving the tension in their muscles, fully at ease. They sighed in content, closing their eyes to savour it.

Finally, Kurenai opened her eyes and drifted her gaze across the room until two figures came into eyesight. One she recognized instantly as Kakashi because of his grey hair, but the other...

'A kid?'

She realized after seeing their small stature and young face. Focusing closely, even squinting in the process, to identify this person.

'long black hair in a braid, wearing a bright red vest and has a sheathed sword tied to the back of their belt'

A minute passed, with Kurenai just staring at the fellow ravenet with a dawned expression.

"Anko" she tapped her companion on the shoulder, trying to gain her attention.

"What is Kurenai, I want to sleep..." she opened an eye to gaze at her dazed friend.

Pointing her finger in a direction, Anko followed it to the couch on the corner end of the room to find two occupants. One she knew as Kakashi and the other...

...~...~...~...~...~...~...~...~...~...~...~...~...

Reading the contents of the book in her hand, Kaitlyn was beyond mesmerized. The story was fascinating and held great hope. Unfortunately, she could tell that this book didn't sell much, but to her it was amazing. The main protagonist, conveniently named Naruto, trying to find true peace while enduring pain and hardships, but never giving up.

Kaitlyn was a sucker for many things and a few of them being Hero's, Idiots, and Underdogs.

But now she held a thought about true peace.

It's not that she hasn't had the thought before, there were many times and many situations where the question was asked or thought of. And what she has discovered, in her own opinion, is that... Peace is frail but very much possible.

She has seen it, communities, country's, worlds where peace was achieved... but always at a price. Lives were lost, most of them being her friends risking everything to find it.

And then there were the small fragments of peace which not many people see, like a child's first laugh, a mother's warm touch, a father's strong embrace, a friends encouraging words... a family's love.

Peace to her were the basics... Family, friends and... Lover. She knew a lot about the first two, but the third, well... she's never really thought much about it. Sure there where a lot of times she'd played matchmaker, but it would never apply to herself.

She read the book slowly, taking her time to fully enjoy it.

"ITS YOU!!!"

Wincing at the loud volume, Kaitlyn stopped her reading, rubbing her poor ear. Turning her gaze around towards the source of the noise, she gazed upon a duo, one with black wavy hair and red eyes and the other a purple-haired woman with black eyes pointing in her general direction.

Blinking, obviously confused

'Are they talking about me?'

"Your the one I've been looking for!"

The purple haired woman announced. Now staring into the woman's eyes, Kaitlyn could tell only one thing she had to do...

'RUN!!!'

Letting her instincts take control, Kaitlyn dashed off the couch and out the window in an instant, her entire being saying that woman is best not to deal with... yet.
