▬▬ "We have arrived at the Forty Floor."
The horned girl was by the train's exit, her sack bag's ropes were within her grip, and her back against the cold steel wall. She wasn't trying to keep her guard up. She was relaxed as those old people in the retirement homes.
Once the conductor announced they would arrive at the forty floor's station soon, the spear-bearer went rigid and alerted with excitement. The excitement within her was unbearable. The spear-bearer couldn't wait to get out of this hell circle.
From the girl's peripheral vision, a dark red-headed male and a cheery silver-haired male were approaching her. The horned girl sent them a smile, and this was enough to hype up Boro's energy.
"Yo, L/N!" The fisherman called out with a gigantic smile on his face, to which the horned girl replicated his smile.
"Do you really have to leave the train?" Boro moped with a sad smile. The spear-bearer merely chuckled at this.
"Heh. I mean, I've sorta reached my destination so, I see nothing bad about it," The H/C-haired girl tried to reason. Once she noticed the atmosphere dimmed down a bit, she tried to uplift the atmosphere again.
"Plus, isn't the train meant to drop you off when you've reached the destination?" The horned girl tried to joke, but none of them laughed.
"Oh, c'mon the joke wasn't that bad," She reasoned.
"Wait, that was a joke?" Boro raised one of his silver brows at her. The H/C-haired girl became embarrassed, now noticing that her joke didn't hit the right target.
As for Sachi, he couldn't stand the horned girl. This girl did nothing. She did nothing, yet she had the nerve to throw the towel. She's a coward. From the very beginning that's what she's been good at, being a coward.
The wave controller couldn't believe that Boro could stand being fake right in front of her. He couldn't even stand Boro, but his seething hatred for Y/N was on another level. He hated her so much that he would say it right at her face.
"You're a coward, you know that, right?" The red-head mused, which worsened the already awkward atmosphere.
Suddenly, the train began changing its temperature. Ice crystals began piercing the metal walls while the snow skated down from the ceiling with ease. The artificial sunlight was there on standby, but it wasn't heating the place.
Although the atmosphere changed, the cold couldn't beat the chilling sensation that L/N felt in her spine.
It wasn't everyday someone confronted her, but his statement confirmed her suspicion. She wanted to doubt her overthinking, but she knew it was a possibility. A possibility will always be a possibility, and no one should ignore its consequences.
"I don't know what's wrong with you bro but calm down-" Boro was about to act as the mediator but Y/N beat him to it.
"It's alright Boro," She reassured, but the male did not feel reassured at all.
"Your eyes and your shinsu." The horned girl stared into the redhead's eyes and deciphered his emotion on the spot. "You're mad, huh?"
He was silent, but the energy that his eyes and shinsu were releasing were strong. Strong enough to suffocate or pierce through her body. It even felt nauseating, but she couldn't walk away. It wouldn't surprise her if he made her explode by now.
The H/C haired girl hated the fact that she could easily read someone's emotions through their shinsu. She would have rather been normal, normal just like her brother.
"You hate me that much, don't you?" The girl began repositioning herself into a ready bowing position.
"I don't understand why you hate me or why you're mad at me but, I'm sorry." The spear-bearer apologized, then bowed to her comrade.
"You're sorry for being useless?" Faker only got silence, they could hear each other's shivering and their teeth chattering. "Don't make me laugh. You can't be sorry for being useless, if you were, you could've saved at least one of them."
"Look, I couldn't save them, it happened so drop it already." The horned girl demanded as her nails dug deeper into her skin.
"How can I drop it when you were in their reach but you never grabbed their hand," The H/C haired girl was silent, she hated the fact he brought this up. He just had to bring this up. "Belaine, Amane, Victor, Iris, and Evelyn..."
"You could've saved them." The wave controller reminded her as he looked down upon her form. The girl looked so small when she was bowing, but he knew that was not the case. She has proven she is capable of a lot of things, except she can't save (Team name).
"I know." The horned girl murmured as she kept her bowing position.
"THEN WHY DIDN'T YOU DO IT? WHY COULDN'T YOU SAVE THEM?" The wave controller screamed at the top of his lungs.
His pent-up emotions gushing out like a broken fountain. It even surprised Boro to see his comrade breakdown like this, it wasn't everyday Sachi wouldn't be his usual calm self. He understood the situation they went through was traumatizing, but he didn't think that situation would flip someone's rage mode on.
"Sachi..." The silver-haired male murmured, uncertain of what to say next.
"Mate," The girl brought her head up and began seeing Sachi eye-to-eye.
"Do you really think I'll stop climbing the tower because I failed to save them?" The question almost rolled off her lips as a failed laugh.
"I vowed to stop climbing the tower so I can stop getting people killed- I ALWAYS HAVE TO BE THE ONE NEAR THEM BUT I NEVER GET TO SAVE THEM!" The spear bearer admitted the guilt on her broad shoulders felt heavier than ever. It even felt like the weight on her shoulders would crush her alive.
The guilt was too much for her.
"I have to stop climbing so I can spare you guys..." The spear bearer said, but none of them understood what she meant by "spare".
"Throughout my entire childhood, I have had this curse. I can't save the people I care for. Just this once I don't want you guys to get killed because of me, to save you guys from my curse, I have to stop." The H/C haired girl murmured the last part. It was barely audible, but they heard her.
"Y/N, you're being irrational-" The fisherman abruptly interrupted.
"What makes you say so?" Boro didn't answer her. The girl only got silence from them, so she began gathering her weight to stand up, then took her sack bag.
"We have arrived at Forty-floor station."
The hell train's door began welcoming the fresh air from the outside. As the door opened, Y/N could feel the hospitality radiating from the 40nth floor. The horned girl stood there as the wind ran past her and began zooming towards the forty-floor.
The wind was encouraging others to dance along with him. The wind ran past the fauna and encouraged them into dancing along with him, which he had achieved.
The wind tried to encourage the rocks and the people into dancing, but the humans were preoccupied with their tasks, like carrying stocks and playing with their children.
While the rocks pretended that the wind wasn't there. Although not everyone danced along with the wind. That didn't diminish the fact that it was a welcoming and beautiful place.
"Take care, Assholes." Those were her last words to her former comrades.
There was no malice in her tone or words, but it rubbed Sachi and Boro the wrong way. Boro felt guilty because he was thinking the same way as Sachi, but he never knew that Y/N had a curse.
Just the thought of the curse and his awful thoughts made it difficult to swallow back his guilt. Although he wasn't sure if that curse was real or not, maybe it was better this way.
It was probably better that she acted like a coward...
